Just looking up the figures: 1 made 86 million, 2 174.3 million, 3 327.7 million, and 4 447.3 million. That is all reasonable for the budgets they have and is increasing, but the key is by the 4th film it is off the backs of the 3 before it. Saying 'from the world of John Wick' is not actually the same thing as it being a John Wick film. Furiosa made the same mistake: 1) Mad Max: Fury Road did not do exceptional at the box office; 2) for all intents and purposes it is trading off the idea of it being a Mad Max film without actually having Mad Max in it, so really it is not actually trading off anything as it is its own thing. Ballerina should have had a lower budget, and expected to make more modest amounts at the box office. It should have thought itself more akin to Atomic Blonde than thinking like it was John Wick 5 and thereby going to follow the increasing box office numbers of John Wick.
