To pay off a reverse mortgage on land with oil.

Desperation will make a man do desperate things. Also watch some crime shows, you'll see multiple people killed for four figure sums or less. A father and his daughter were once killed for an X-Box.

The brother was a white trash outlaw type and did it for the action
>>
>>214617725
He needs the action, he had to make a move. Some might say, he needed to get it on.

Add Green Room to the list if you want that "people in fucked up situations" genre. Also Nocturnal Animals if you count the book scenes and not that slow writer ex wife drama its wrapped around.

>be broke with no assets
>just go get a loan, bro

He won it at a casino. There is no paper trail. The bank they stole it from wasn't pushing it because he registered the trust with them.

Bridges knew he did it at the end, but there is no way to prove it. That's the whole point of the end conversation.

Targeting small banks in the middle of nowhere was the backbone of their plan. As opposed to other robbers who wanted to make a fortune they only needed enough to pay back the loan.

>>214617849
This is unironically a "The charges, officer?" situation. They didn't have anything that'd tie him to the robberies and the bank is not going to push the issue as they wouldn't risk losing the newfound oil money. From that point it's a dead case. Also the land being valuable wasn't widely known (remember, it was new info for the Sheriff too when he went back to his former workplace) and there was no "suddenly". They had a date until the loan had to be paid back and that's it. The expectation that they weren't going to be able to do that based mainly on perception and $40k not a such enormous sum that it could only be gathered by committing some major crime.
