A few things it does better actually, it's more consistent (never had a bad season unlike Xena), it's comfier, more hot female guest stars and with bigger boobs, and Herc's sidekick Iolaus is way more interesting than Gabrielle. However it played it safe too much, less ambitious than Xena, and the action isn't nearly as exciting. Fights in Xena is like watching a 80s kung fu movie whereas the fighting on Hercules is like the same early 90s WWF match played over and over. His moves are repetitive, he does the same moves over and over.tl;dr if you like Xena, you'll like Hercules, and you should watch both as they each have their merits

The scene has Joxer and Xena on a boat (I think it was on a boat anyway) and Joxer has to pretend to be this super elite warrior guy, except nobody's buying it so he kills some random guy with a toothpick to prove it. Except of course he doesn't actually kill the guy with a toothpick, Xena just makes it look like he did. No idea why I remembered this scene so well when I forgot almost everything else, but I'd like to rewatch that episode.
