When did the downfall of Tony's crew really begin?
>>
>>214691917
When he murdered a capo over a retarded horse
>>
from the very first episode
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cQOej9nuho
>>
>>214691917
Episode 1
>>
>>214691917
Season 6 when David Chase decided that Tony was too well liked and turned him into a total irredeemable self destructive piece of shit. He was never a great boss but fuck after the coma he was just pathetic
>>
>>214691939
Season 1 is so bad. Barely even canon
>>
>>214691956
wrong, pilot episode is janky but the rest is golden. Also has the best episode of the entire series, College
>>
>>214692044
>best episode is Tony driving around like a cartoon character attempting to kill someone in witnesses protection in broad daylight
>>
>>214691956
>Season 1 is so bad. Barely even canon
i used to be like this but then i re watched it and realized that even though there's retarded shit like tony pulling guns out of fish, it's still amazing. i was watching breaking bad just before and the difference in quality when it comes to the writing of both shows is very apparent. nothing out there beats sopranos and it's true from the very first season
>>
>>214692089
yes
>>
Before the show even started.

Christopher being promoted to Capo.
>>
>hey Junior I always thought you were a balaclava man
>>
>>214691917
When he took over while everyone pretended junior was in charge

My parents used to have ducks drop in to the neighborhood sometimes when I was growing up, I miss them too.

How does he drive around like a cartoon character?

For me it's when they feel the need to show Junior coming along for the Brendan Filone hit.

How do the writers link Junior to this murder? Do they trust the audience to infer it from how Junior acted towards Brendan and Chris earlier in the episode? Or maybe the fact that Junior's #1 henchman was the one who killed Brendan?
>Nah just show Junior lurking a few feet away from the murder and have him smirk or something
Seeing David Chase struggle with the contempt he feels for his retarded audience as the show continues is one of the best parts of rewatching The Sopranos.
>>
>>214691917
Before the show even started, which is a big theme in the show and explicitly states numerous times.
>>
>>214692885
It was the 90s and American are generally retarded.
>>
>>214691917

This. The rot started decades ago. The business was being regulated out and the made men of the 20thc were being replaced by dumb dogs high on mythology and low on sense. Unsurprisingly organised crime also creates unstable households. Those who were grounded like Tony were too fucked up being their home life to ever have the emotional stability necessary to lead men

That said>>214691927 is right in a way. The point of Tony getting therapy is to suggest that there is a way out. But Tony fails to take it. Ralph's narrative arc then serves to underpin Tony's failure, he exists to serve as an allegory for what Tony could be and when Tony kills him in an emotional spasm, it both literally destroys his crew and also morally destroys his character, suggesting he is either irredeemable or at least failed to utilise his grasp at salvation
>>
>>214691953
Sopranos did the opposite of glamorizing the mob. They overly signaled against it to a whiny degree. They're not cartels.
>>
>>214692089
To be fair, it's not like you have a guard with you 24/7.
>>
>>214693293
there are plenty of "whoa that was badass I wish I was Tony" moments in the first five seasons
But in Season 6 I wanted to bitch slap him

Wrong. Season 1 best episode is Isabella. The best episodes of the series are Funhouse, University, Whoever Did This, The Test Dream and Made In America.

When the leader started having panic attacks which was childhood. It was over before it began. Without a strong leader, a crew will disintegrate
>>
>>214691917
About 20 years before the show started
>>
Pussy's death. This was the point of no return.
>>
>>214691917
To be honest, New York was way more dysfunctional than that pygmy thing in Jersey. Tony was a great boss. Everyone saw his talent his crew was competent enough to be profitable.

Tony likely only died because Phil called Italy to kill him and the hit was never called off after his death.

Dimeo would have been fine if not for the power struggle in New York, which made Phil think taking over Jersey would solidify his authority and legacy.
>>
>>214695510
Worst written part of the show. They always gloat about how they love pussy so much for no reason. He's Tony's best friend but they never act like it. I'm amazed he's around for two whole seasons.
>>
sex with widowed housewife angie
>>
>>214691953
They went a little on the nose, with season 6. As a non-italian, it's easy for me to see these guys are incompetent goofball sociopaths. Killing Chris could have been handled better.
>>
>>214692650
>kill your top earner cuz he beat the stripper you had a crush on to death and set your pet horse on fire
ralph dindu nuffin
>>
>>214693807
The Goomar filler / fanservice is so obnoxious. I started skipped the scenes as they went on. Tony fucking bimbos is not a plotline that goes anywhere, especially after the separation. They literally just spread their legs with hardly even any attempt at seduction.
>>
>>214696595
Ralph was an animal and should have been whacked for his gladiator autism.
>>
I just rewatched the series and holy fuck did they really need like 6 episodes of scenes with Vito and his gay lover in New Hampshire? Like just get it over with this was a 1-2 episode plotline.
>>
>>214696497
>He's Tony's best friend but they never act like it. I'm amazed he's around for two whole seasons.
Well you see him when he's already a rat. And that's not the only thing the show just omits from the past. Don't forget the seasonal "this dude who just left the can and we never mentioned before and becomes the central problem for this season".
>>
>>214696606
The whole valentina thing should have been cut entirely

new york only was handicapped with john as boss. both carmine and phil where old school, straight to the point and all about the money.

john, just like tony was guided by his emotions. a horrible trait for a boss
>>
>>214696631
1. she was a hooah
2. she hit him
>>
>>214696687
They don't act like best friends at all, we don't even get flashbacks. Tony and Blundetto seem like they actually have history. Pussy has the charisma of fucking Carlo. They tell but don't show. Johnny sack seems like Tonys best friend.
>>
>>214696811
Johnny was fine for a boss, he just had civil war declared on him. The issue was Carmines failure to have a protegee and clear successor, but even then, New york was just filled with strivers. Even after the little carmine / John fued was done Doc started shit to Ursurp Phil. New york was putting personal ambitions before profit.
>>
The series gets more and more unrealistic as it goes on with so much major crimes they have no fear of being caught doing.

Remember when Chris and Paulie killed a random waiter? Just never mentioned again. No big deal.

When I got to season 6 I accidentally watched episode 18 first because it was at the top of the list and I was too drunk to tell otherwise and I haven't been able to unspoil myself and watch it proper
>>
>>214691956
Yeah, it was made based on the terrible late 90s gimmick of "mob boss goes to a shrink" Therapy was trendy kitsch at the time. Save a handful of Tony one liners, all the Melfi scenes are trash filler.
>>
>>214697120
Brainlet
>>
>>214691956
The only thing bad about it are the few instances of ADR.
>>
>>214697129
Classic redditor NPC defending the Melfi scenes, which just blatantly tell you things about Tony anyone with half a brain could already figure out ( because the show is good, and we know how they character thinks and feels) through the lens of a libtard.

If they wanted to spoonfeed the idiots they could have cut the therapy and just have scenes of Tonys inner thoughts or simple dream scenes, because milfy adds nothing to every scene she's in. it's a an excuse for Tony to monologue, and very often, literal filler to pad out the runtime.
>>
>>214697096
those fucking streaming sites ruined a few tv shows for me like that
>>
>>214697096
I once saw a webm from that black and white episode of twin peaks s3 and really liked it so I decided to watch it from the start, watch both 1 and 2 seasons with fire walks with me, got to s3 in anticipation, finished it, but didn't see that episode. turns out I accidentally fucking skipped it. still haven't watched it out of spite.
>>
>>214691917
Did only Tony get whacked in the end, or did Carm and AJ as well? I know normally families are left alone but Phil's hit was so sloppy with the Ukranians and Phil getting killed right in front of his family.
>>
>>214697598
AJ is a ghost in the canon superbowl commercial with Meadow. The three of them got capped in Holsten's.
