What are some absolute martial art kinos that I should watch as a first timer?

Drunken Master (1978)
>>214697722Lo Wei and the Shaw brothers are always good stuff imo, Enter the Ninja is solid as well. Fist of the North Star whether its the anime or the movie is easy 10|10, Tony Jaa made some good movies too though most known for the voice actor work in Legacy of Kain and other games. Also Kung Fury ^-^
Hard to beat this when it comes to pure spectacle
The Five Venoms
>>214700784All the Venom Mob stuff is great. For me, it's The Kid with the Golden Arm. I always enjoy kung fu movies where one of the characters is invincible when he's drunk, stumbling around with a big jug of rice wine that he sips while he fights

Some of the coolest kung fu movies have the most generic names and poster art
Bloodfist. Don is underrated
>>214697722pretty much anything with sammo hung and his crew
A Touch of Zen (1971)basically every Jackie Chan movie.
Dirty Ho. It's fucking great and hilarious.
Are there any REALISTIC martial art movies? Every one I see is either legend types with dudes walking on air or "the most fastest" The Matrix type fights on fast forward. Where are just two relatively skilled artists fighting?
>>214705256You're looking for boxing dramas
>>214698867This also add kung fu hustle, and shaolin soccer
>>214703875This one too
>>214705256The Karate Kid
>>214706106>The Karate Kid>RealisticMiyagai literally has magic hands that can heal injuries.
>>214697722Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
>>214705751>This also add kung fu hustle, and shaolin soccerStephen Chow's movies are all amazing but OP was asking about stuff to watch as a newcomer to the genre. Watching those movies coming in blind is sort of like watching Deadpool and Wolverine as your first foray into capeshit. Sure you'll probably be entertained but there's so much you're not going to pick up because you have no foundation in the genre.

Drunken master 2 is goat
>>214697722these are the ones that made a big impact on me when i first got into the genre>Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragonwuxia (historical fantasy w/ martial arts) kino. beautiful and one of the finest films of all time, regardless of genre.>Ong-Bakmuay thai focuses on elbow and knee strikes, creating an aesthetic of powerful assaults. a joy to watch.>House of Flying Daggersanother wuxia with gorgeous visuals (pic related)
>>214697722Iron Monkey Rumble in the Bronx

>>214706356ok, and?
>>214697722Shaolin Intruders is pretty great. Shaolin Prince, too. And watch Five Elemental Ninjas.
>>214697722
>>214700558this is a movie you really gotta watch in the highest possible quality>>214701206this one is also really good
>>214705256The western made martial arts movies tend to be more grounded. Check out Undisputed 3 and Ninja 2 with Scott Adkins or The Redeemer with Marko Zaror. Also check out The Raid and The Night Comes for Us, both from Indonesia. .
>>214708875Blood and Bone is a necessary Companion Piece to Undisputed III
>>214697722Arrow's Shawscope sets are a great collection of essential, high quality Shaw Brothers kung fu movies. You don't have to buy them, just look up the movies in the sets and stream them.Skip ahead to The 36th Chamber of Shaolin and watch that first, and then pick whatever movies from those collections sound up your alley. They're all at least good, most of them great. After that, Shout Factory released a bunch of Shaw Brothers sets that also have a lot of good movies. By this point, you'll develop a good sense of what directors and actors you like. Then you can start on Golden Harvest, with Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Sammo Hung
>>214697722Chocolate is pretty good and also it has a cute autistic girl doing Muay Thai
>>214698430The remake, Fist of Legend is better.
>>214709155the scene where he beat everybody up was pretty good
>>214705256You're kinda missing the point if you go into asian martial arts movies for realism.
