i have dialogue that i liked from that film that i saved in a file. here is one of it
>Their visible disappearances make the canvas. A canvas sensually structured as to form an enlightening and specifically solid whole. Do you understand? Look at these spots.
>- Did you make them?
>Yes. And the smaller they are, the larger the world they define by suggestion. One does not see the spots. One sees everything that is not there. Perforce. Thus, we're obliged, we painters, to re-think fundamentally the problems of art by updating, as it should, the process of its functional drift.

It's both. There's one specific scene where he sits in a chair in an office building and suddenly the black office tower behind lights up with elevator going down. That was specifically set up by Mann and it's one of the best night time scenes ever in cinema.

Steve Jobs from 2015.. it is a very comfy period nostalgia piece that has a very tight rigorous and yet creative script that plays with time and place. Very underrated film transcends its pompous subject matter.

It is a pleb filter unlike birdman which was pleb bait. Jobs uses low contrast filtering during the exteriors of the 80s sequences and it gives all the nature this pastel and vibrant like glow.
The occasional bursts of creative freedom in editing and mise en scene like during the parallel conversation scene with the ceo. It is really great in a subtle non stand offish way.

The plot was great, the structuring of 4 launch releases felt episodic but comfy because it takes place in convention halls in ambient light which reminds me of going to comic con as a child. The acting was fine. Nothing extraordinary I agree. But I’m glad no one was trying too hard to stand out. Everything felt just right to me.

It seeks to manipulate you emotionally and then subverts the whole enchilada with a plot twist to manipulate you further. It stinks. Anyhow, there's a great chemistry between Irene Jacob and JLT and it is needless to mention the visuals are very well gifted. I may dislike the ending but the film, the whole trilogy in fact, deserve to be watched.

I trust I can discipline her.
Blogposting time: once I had a gf that treated me like shit somewhat similar to Julie Delpy in the movie. One time she intentionally stepped on my naked foot with high heels and then laughed in my face after. I started seeing red and slapped her face, then grabbed a book and hit her in the head with it thrice. With teary eyes, she instantly got on her knees and sucked my dick, then screamed in bed similar to Delpy's character in Kieslowski's movie.
Moral of the story: don't take no disrespect from no one; understand that women won't respect you until you show them balls; hit people in a way that will leave no marks.

Watching silent films doesn't make you special, different, or interesting. You haven't discovered some ultra cool new movement that will give you clout on tiktok. All you have done is intentionally watch things that are lower quality, less interesting, and more technologically primitive. Furthermore, we both know that the entire time you watch it, all you are thinking is 'look how cool I am mommy I am watching a silent film.' All of us know that you don't even pay attention to what's on screen because you are typing on your phone.
>>
>>214715742
>>214715820
You're not wrong exactly. Truffaut didn't invent the french new wave, and yet he gets all the credit because MAH FESTIVAL DE CANNES PRIZE. Jean Rouch and Agnes Varda both invented the french new wave well before. Agnes had a film five years earlier that includes all the hallmarks of FNW. She was a rich girl who used daddys money to go out and make a film, but that's besides the point. Rouch directed Moi, un Noir two years before and gets no credit because apparently pioneering invention isn't what invents a medium, but having the backing of a film festival is what invents a medium.

I've just finished Chungking Express.

What a boring movie. IMO the first half is boring and you should fast forward to when tomboy lady shows up, but I guess some people have the opposite opinion.

That song she listens to is a good song but I don't know any song I want to hear at length 5 separate times in a single movie.

The fact both men are cops barely seems relevant. We never find out why sunglasses lady shoots the guy. That plot thread is just completely abandoned when tomboy lady shows up.

Also she's never on the floor of an escalator like she is in this poster. I don't get that.

I've tried to expand my horizons and watch Asian films.

Some anon a few months ago mentioned Maborosi, so I watched that, After Life, and Bachelor Party.

Is it a crucial tenet of authentic Asian cinema that its fucking boring meandering shit that goes nowhere?

I quite enjoyed Joint Security Area which feels a Jerry Bruckheimer movie or a Touchstone Production.

When I was a teenager, I went through a lot of Akira Kurosawa's work, and I enjoyed Rashoman, Ikiru, The Bad Sleep Well, and ofcourse Yojimbo is better than Fistful of Dollars.

But I know Kurosawa is considered too western to be a true Japanese film maker and I have to assume the same is true of JSA.

I don't wanna waste time reading "get off your phone zoomie. You'll never be a true patrician."

This shit ain't 2001: A Space Odyssey. This shit ain't Primer. I can't imagine there's very much to gained watching this shit a 2nd, 3rd, or 45th time to see what you missed.

What did you guys get out of this? What am I missing?

This is how I feel having watched authentic asian cinema. >>214716099

Chapter 1: The Law of Leadership

Summary: It’s better to be first than it is better.

It’s much easier to get into the mind first than to try to convince someone you have a better product than the one that did get there first.

In today’s competitive environment, a me-too product with a line extension name has little hope of becoming a big profitable brand.

Theleading brandin any category is almost always the first brand into the prospect’s mind.

Not every first is going to become successful. Timing is an issue—your first could be too late.

People tend to stick with what they’ve got.

One reason the first brand tends to maintain its leadership is that the name often becomes generic (e.g. “How do I make a Xerox?”).

If you’re introducing the first brand in a new category, you should always try to select a name that can work generically.

Marketing is a battle of perceptions, not products.

False as fuck.
Deep Space Nine and Voyager are better than TOS and TNG, but they didn't come first so only spergs care.
Metroid II is better than Metroid 1 but no one talks about it.
Dvorak is better than Qwerty but Qwerty is the standard.
An amateur game designer can recreate Super Mario Crossover or am2r in their spare time but they won't get the same recognition as the company that made the games they're recreating and improving

I like Mann too but let’s be real the opening scene of Miami Vice is the best scene in the entire film. And it’s like 1 minute of the Jay z song with the cast at the club. The next best scene is the motorboat scene with the ugly Chinese woman and the moby song.
Sry but aside from the cinematography I think MV isn’t that interesting

You got filtered lil bro. WKW's films are primarily about fleeting human connection, and nostalgia for British Hong Kong. How do you get "bored" by a 90 minute music video anyway?

I don't fuck with that shit, because I like authenticity. I need no actress: I wanna see the reality. You can only get those feelings from the clinically insane.
Once fucked a girl that wanted me to choke her harder and harder. I put my hands on her to a degree where I was comfortable, then she started choking herself harder until she was blue. I got a little bit scared and stopped playing that game then went back in when she had colour in her face again. Then she put her hands in my back and started digging her nails in me until my skin bled. I won't say that I like pain, but I like the intensity of insanity, because I wouldn't feel alive otherwise.
She stayed in my house for a week and essentially wanted me to become her dad. I woke her up in the morning so that she went to work while she constantly cried about everything; she couldn't take any criticism. After a while I said fuck no and moved on.
In time, I saw that there is no way but to accept that baggage if you're like me. I've realized that's what I like, so there's no choice but to roll with the pain.

Furthermore the toxic shit you mention isn’t even as bad with gold diggers. Gold diggers are pretty smart all things considered. They understand and know how to navigate the social realm better than most. That is why they know how to manipulate so well. As long as I have money to play with I can enjoy an Oscar worthy seductress performance without any bullshit or drama. When cash is tight we just move on and there’s no hard feelings.

My brother in Christ, it's all relative. I hate it and I love it, -because I really can't cum otherwise-, but the chaos is so embarrasing that I've became that which I hated to live this life. I just know if a girl is into me she's either: a) fucked up in the head, or b) wants to be my mom. I enjoy both things, but it's too much sometimes. Man, I hate being a bitch's father so much, but that's the world we live in, right?
I was watching some new King of the Hill recently and saw those Connie episodes where she's all toxic and weird to Bobby and I thought "that's fucked up, but that's hot", and that's where I realized my brain is fucked beyond repair.

The greatest film of the last 100 years in my opinion is Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This should have the reputation that Citizen Kane does, and even came out two years before it.

The rest of the list:

Jaws

E.T., the Extra Terrestrial

Close Encounters of the Third Kind

(yes, Steven Spielberg has three movies on this list, he is indeed that good)

Fitzcarraldo

Battleship Potemkin

Shadows

Breathless

Star Wars

Toy Story

Star Wars, Episode II: Attack of the Clones

Inland Empire

Honorable mention to: Abbas Kiarostami (meta realism), Michael Haneke (the film on screen is not the film you are seeing but an approximation of a larger canvas)

I am probably the only actual film historian on /film/ (I have done several audio commentaries including on early Gaumont releases). The live action canon gravely underrates the history of animation and believes it to be a subset of cinema, hence, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs lack of presence on Sight & Sound.

You would be gravely mistaken if you believe animation is for babies. Even a film like Who Frames Roger Rabbit (this would land in my top 25) is more important than films like Citizen Kane and The Godfather. Vertigo and 2001 is only important due to the John Whitney and Trumbull special effects, but then even Silent Running is more important in that regard.

Tron and Roger Rabbit should carry equal importance with Star Wars and Citizen Kane.
