Now, when the dust has settled, was it really that bad?
>>214723003it literally killed star wars
>>214723023Only in the imaginations of chuds. All sequel trilogy movies made more than a billion.
>>214723003It was easily the best of the 3 sequelsWhich isn't a high bar but still, it's very telling that the one most Star Wars nerds had a meltdown over was the only one that even TRIED.
I think if you edit all the movies together with just the Adam driver scenes you might have one solid movie in there
>>214723143Tried at what?
>>214723187To have some semblence of a story? The Abrams movies were just nostalgia shit thrown at the screen to appease manchildren
>>214723003
>>214723057Where are the rest of the films? What happened that left Disney without a Star Wars movies for 7 years? Why did Galactic Starcruiser fail? Why is everything post ST set before it?
>>214723237>Where are the rest of the films? The trailer for Mandalorian and Grogu was dropped just today. >What happened that left Disney without a Star Wars movies for 7 years? What happened between Jedi and Menace that we were without Star Wars movie for 16 years? >Why did Galactic Starcruiser fail?Nothing to do with the movies. >Why is everything post ST set before it?Deciding the future of the franchise requires time and planning. Post-Rey world needs to be gotten right.
>>214723003In retrospect, the best of the sequel trilogy. Faint praise.
>>214723003Probably. I never saw it since I gave up on disney wars before TFA came out
>>214723003The dust will never settle. It’s shit, it will always be shit.>didn’t even watch it because I have taste
>>214723003>We're not gonna win this WAR by fighting what we hate but by saving what we love
>>214723003I wonder when these films will become positively re-evaluated, this decade or the next?
>>214723003If it solely focused on Rey and Kylo instead of wasting half the screentime on Finn, Po, and that Asian chick then MAYBE it would’ve been good
>>214723604There's really no deeper vision underlying the bullshit in the Sequels the way there is with the Prequels
This might be an unpopular opinion but I think TROS is slightly better than TLJ. They are all terrible, but TROS at least has more visual spectacle and action. TLJ is so ponderous, clumsy, and full of itself. With TROS, I could see kids who like action/sci fi movies enjoying it. TLJ is only enjoyed by film Twitter dickheads.
>>214723003it destroyed star wars and now disney is desperate to get its young male demographic back. its sad.
>>214723713>we're being chased and can't escape, except to this space casino for no fucking reason>we're riding lecomedy goats in space isn't that coolI'm honestly torn as to which is stupider
>>214723003They should have just went the full mile and made the sequels a women's romance fantasy series. They said Star Wars was for girls now and the force is female and all that but then chicken out at the last second and make generic slop instead of something that could have been decent even if it was aimed at girls.
>>214723003It was so bad it killed the entire star wars franchise
>>214723999checked and true
It’s clumsy but had the gall to actually set up an arc for the new generation’s trio to complete and prove themselves. All of that went out the window with Rise of Skywalker, of course; Finn in particular got the Yamcha treatment. Imagine focus-grouping your once unkillable franchise to death.
>>214723003Most interesting in terms of themes and visuals of the sequels, but still jankilly put together.
>>214723003It deserves a lot of the hate it gets. ButIt has some good things about it. Unfortunately what is good about this movie is basically esoteric and not normalfag friendly.I can't call it a good movie just because it does justice to some subtle things.
>>214723003I didnt watch it. i watched the entire star wars trilogy like once a month at least when i was 8-9 years old. I saw episode 1 7 times in the theatre. not watching nu-wars and ruining my childhood memories.
>>214723003Never understood the hate, but I'm not a hyperautistic Star Wars fanboy, so I don't require these movies to be absolute perfection. Went to the kinoplex, had fun and moved on. It's a perfectly fine space action movies with some amazing visuals.
just as next generation isnt star trekand doctor who since liek 70s hasnt been doctor whothis is not star warsits vagina wars
>>214723220There's still a LOT of nostalgia shit in TLJ, so I wouldn't give too much credit in that department.>Snoke is a bargain basement emperor>Kylo tries to turn Rey in the throne room just as Vader tried to turn Luke>Rey is trained by Luke in a remote and uncivilised location>Luke does the eccentric hermit shtick like Yoda at first, but then reveals a more serious side>Luke has become defeatist like Yoda>Darth Plagueis namedrop, wooo>Battle of Hoth rehashAnd so much more. I was so depressed by all this rehashing I found it difficult to care about the new material that offended other people. The Holdo manoeuvre doesn't matter, the EU will no doubt provide an explanation for why it was a one-off. The Casino planet was just boring, and most of the chase through space was boring.I'll give credit for two things: those new gorilla-like AT-ATs were decent, and Snoke's ship was pretty good too.
>>214723344the "post-rey world" is just the original trilogy world. they dont have any new ideas. not during the movies, and certainly not afterthe only reason you would defend this franchise in the modern day would be if you had stock in disney or some shit.
>>214725284see, they are copying things from the OT but at least they're not looking at the camera going "woah look guys, its CHARACTER YOU REMEMBER. dont you remember CHARACTER?" they have like, a little bit of subtlety with it at least
>>214723003Better than the prequels
>>214723003Its not a good movie, but I have a weird begrudging respect for the movie because it is the cinematic equivalent of a spite fence against JJ's terrible mystery-box bullshit he sets up in the first movie with no plans of how they would resolve, and just leaves it as a problem for the next guy. One genuinely positive thing I have to say about the movie is that I really liked the production design. Visually it looks like it belongs in the star wars universe as established. TFA just looked too much like JJ's star trek, to clean and brightly lit, everything is beveled and curved, and it just doesn't feel like it belongs. Unfortunately all of that is in service to a stupid plot that goes fucking nowhere, doing things that take you out of the movie because off the top of your head you can think of multiple better solutions to most of the problems. We have three ships, we know they're tracking one, but we don't know which one? Lets definitely not split everyone up evenly onto the three ships and then take off in different directions confident in the fact that mathematically 2/3rs of you will survive, instead of waiting for each ship to run out of fuel, fend off attacks, and slowly get picked off so you only end up with like a couple dozen assholes. They also make a cardinal sin of sci-fi and fantasy. Hyperspace exists PURELY as a story element to allow a space opera setting with a planet hopping adventure. It doesn't need to be explained, its fucking space magic that lets the story happen. But when you suddenly try to turn that into a plot device, by say having it be used as a weapon that is easily able to wipe out an entire fleet of mega super-duper star destroyers then you have to wonder why the death stars were such a big deal when you just needed a suicide run to nuke it into oblivion. >That was a one in a million shot! Only makes it worse, because if it was that hard and impossible to pull off, then what the fuck was holdo thinking?
>>214725284>>Snoke is a bargain basement emperorBut Snoke was a TFA creationTLJ was the one that removed that dumbass character from the series and made Kylo the main antagonist
>>214723003It was kino and I'm tired of pretending it wasn't.
>>214725064>cast christopher lee as your charismatic space-dracula sith lord >refuse to let him be an overdramatic ham Nigga fucking why? I can't even stress how much more improved attack of the clones would be if he just let Lee play the character the way he knew it should have been played.
>>214723003it killed star wars for good.
>>214725534>That was a one in a million shot!I forgot they added this justification in the next film. Star Wars already had some history with sci-fi elements. Midichlorians were sci-fi, and Zahn's novels, which older fans enjoyed, took things into territory with cloning facilities, salamanders with force suppression fields, interdictors that pull ships out of hyperspace, Thrawn giving precise and realistic tactical instructions to his squadrons, some Trek-like technobabble here and there, etc.
>>214725284I am still convinced that most of this was Disney-mandated. I don't like Rian but I don't think he's a big of a hack as Abrams where he would have voluntarily decided to copy Empire so heavily if he had truly been allowed to do whatever he wanted. I think Disney told him to do it and his 'subverting expectations' shit was done as the only creative outlet they gave him.
>>214725759Even in Trek, it doesn't actually matter how warp drive works, it serves the same kind purpose as a story device. And the mechanics of warp drive are never really discussed much in the shows themselves, its mostly from nerd and fan wank after the fact (i'm guilty of it myself). In star wars they always treat hyperspace one way. It gets you from A to B, and before it will let you jump, you have to ramp up the dramatic tension by getting it chased with the badguy.
>>214723143nah the one where dooku zapped boy band kid was better just for that scnee although I thought yoda shoulda fought by levitating his lightsabre
>>214723057chuds are democrat nerds u tardno they didnt make a billion
Star Wars is so corny.
>>214726376My favorite is the guy who just stands around and then runs out of frame.
>>214723003i still can't believe what they did to luke's character, fucking retards
>>214723003I still haven't watched it, and I hopefully never will either.
>>214726528Luke being tired and old and rejecting the jedi wasn't the problem. It was milking the whale-cow, and killing him off without a satisfying (or any!) resolution.
>>214726376Even if you dislike the prequels you have to admit that the fight scenes in those movies looked far better than whatever this is
>>214726588Luke should have died turning Kylo
>>214725636Lucas doesn't allow any acting on his sets. It distracts from the greenscreen elements.
>>214726376this is vagina wars not star wars u utter cretin
>>214726265Take your meds, schizo
>>214726376I lost a lot of respect for one of my little sisters when I found she liked these movies.
>>214726722kill yourself chud jewboy or saaar
>>214723573Does anybody have the edit where she is a kamikaze pilot?
>>214726588Overall I thought Luke was the best part of it, titty-milk scene included, but unceremoniously killing him off for THIS film was outrageous. Luke died so that Finn and Rose may live. What a waste.
>>214723003Fuck you I liked it. Now you know how it feels, zoomers HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
>>214726914ESL
>>214723003The fact that any hype for something related to star wars took a noticable nose dive after this shitshow was released should give you an idea of how bad it was, the IP will likely never fully recover from this movie
>>214723023fpbp
>>214723003the only remarkable thing about it is carry fisher's post-mortem appearance, which is ironic considering that the very first leak that debuted here on /tv/ was "superman leia flying through space with da forze!!!" and anons here debating whether these horrible leaks were actually real or not. back then SUBVERTED!!!! wasn't all that common yet and nobody could believe that disney was running their most expensive franchise acquisition deliberately into the ground. ah, good times for shitposting.
>>214727184I want to believe that Leia was supposed to die in the movie, but then when she died IRL they put her back in because they were afraid it would be in bad taste.
>>214723003was what really that bad?
>>214723617>>214723886reylo was huge but trannies and libtards on twitter seethed nonstop online because the woke ideology demanded that white rey end up with black finn so they clearly didn't want to go there. was surprised when i read that apparently rey and kylo kiss and then kylo dies straight after. i suppose that was JJ's idea of a compromise? alas even shipper baiting won't save a trainwreck of a movie.
>>214727409>seethed nonstopOnly you're allowed to that amirite?
>>214723057Star Wars financially peaked at TLJ. No amount of spin by the media can change that. Everyone saying TROS did it is coping. Star Wars' downward trend starts with TLJ, not TROS. There was a point where blaming TROS was climbing halfway up a mountain and declaring it the peak. It's TLJ, objectively. The first Star Wars film to ever flop came out before TROS, so anyone who blames TROS is coping.
>>214727450i don't do social media and i don't have time to make seethe-posts and send death threats to actors, producers etc. i just come to 4chins to laugh at woke shit without having to censor my comment to appease boomers and libtards.
>>214727482disney and jews fake sales numbers
>>214723223You have to do something like this in order to have a sequel at all.
>>214726783>Da jooos! Da joooos!Confirmed schizo. You need to be put down like a dog.
