This movie has bad pacing, cinematography, lighting, set decoration, and foley work. The soundtrack, both original work and the licensed music, was poor as well. Wardrobe was terrible and I wasnt happy with the key grips work either. Location scouting was shit too.

It's borderline unwatchable. Granted, I'm a bit tired, but the flaws are glaringly obvious. This is coming from someone who enjoys jank like In the Lost Lands and didn't even dislike KPop Demon Hunters.

I thought it was a decent horror movie, but it’s being blown out of proportion for how great it is. It’s getting the Longlegs treatment, but is a much better character-study horror movie than that.

A prequel might be kino tho, it could be like the VVitch but from the POV of the actual witch terrorizing the family

I'd enjoy more witchery but I feel like a prequel's not going to be very good. I don't really want to see her origin of becoming a witch. The reason Weapons worked so well is because of how long things were grounded, so the weird magic shit stood out more. A prequel with her as the focus just sounds like it's going to ruin everything everything unless they do some Alien to Aliens shit where it's mostly magical bullshit going on constantly and is a wildly different movie. Going to hope for the best since I did really enjoy Weapons but I'm not expecting much

I mean, people are praising the way the story is being told from different character perspectives. The horror-thriller bar is low, so weapons is getting good reviews for that sole reason. Imo weapons was a decent movie, but its definitely overrated online. Its like a 8,2/10 movie
>>

>it's definitely overrated online
>8,2/10
brother gave a movie with a 7/10 imdb score an 8/10 score and calls it overrated
>>
>>214737627
In my scale, 8 something is enjoyable. Weapons was enjoyable despite its flaws and its cookie cutter horror plot. The movie characters were interesting enough that carried the whole thing to the end.
>>
>>214730511

>>
>>214737686
Sounds like a 6 to me.
8 is a movie that's very good, notable, iconic, something that adds to the minds of those who view it and is remembered and recommended for years or even decades after release but held back in certain ways that keeps it from being amazing or one of the greats in its genre (around a 9) or something truly stupendous that elevates film as a whole (approaching 10).
5 is perfectly mediocre.

Malignant is good, really funny, and Weapons is in a similar vein, except it:
>has actual characters
>a villain with a powerset that makes sense
>actually tense moments
>Rashomon style recontexualising of events through different perspectives
That's why Malignant is just good, while Weapons is great.

The film's lack of quality is self-evident. The more interesting discussion is how certain types of horror films have become trendy with critics and midwits. If this movie was released 20 years ago it's rotten tomato score would have been below 60%.
>>
>>214738659

My critique is accurate.

People like you are part of the reason why the industry continues to decline. You praise garbage and allow the studios to keep lowering their standards.

If Jurassic Park, Gremlins, Predator, Robocop etc came out today you'd call it shit and claim the love for it is fake. Pull yourself out of that hole of cynicism.
>>
>>214739061
>Or people like it. There isn't some conspiracy behind everything.
Critics don't just "like" something. They're active partipants in the industry who have an agenda behind their reviews. This isn't a conspiracy, many of them will admit it if you ask them.
>>
>>214739033
>Do you really in your heart of hearts think Weapons is deserving of the 94% critical rating it has on rotten tomatoes?
No, but its a decent 8/10 movie. So you saw that rotten score and got so assblasted you decided to see a summary of this movie and then decided to come here to shitpost? >That rifle in the obsessive father's vision
Could be something about gun regulation? About priming younger generations for war?Idk. It does feel out of place because it fails to fully convey the message it's supposed to convey
>EEAO
It has been years since I have seen it and have forgotten most of it, but all I remember is that this movie depicts a Chinese immigrant family trying to come to terms with the american progressive ideology, judging from what they face in the movie.
Also, the le gay dildo jokes, the le sausage finger multiverse, and the le everything can be solved with le empathy.
Both are quite different in their philosophy and you my nigga either missed the point in both of them, or just saw some breadtuber's thoughts about them and adapted that opinion
>be forgotten in a few months
The only thing that you posted that is correct. Weapons might be good, but its not good enough to be a memorable movie. For example, Terrifier movies are worse than weapons, but they are more memorable because they are more shocking and are the only horror movies in recent memory that had a sense of visual aesthetics. If I had to bet, I would place my money on Art the clown.

don't listen to him, creggers wrote the screenplay to cope with trevor moore dying
a lot of the dialogue is basically just him projecting his thoughts about having lost his best friend into the mouths of the characters

Horror, to this day, is made on the cheap, relatively, as I understand it. What does this mean? It means they can spend more $$$ on astroturfing campaigns, paying bots, paying shills, critics, etc. So then suddenly you have this new and allegedly very acclaimed horror, heralded as a new classic of the genre, and it's bullshit 99% of the time. Normies who aren't horror pros don't know wtf is going on derrr duurrrp lets go see da scaaawy moobie, fuckin retards, and a contingent of horror fan midwits will watch anything that is new horror, much like capeshit addicts.

Furthermore, part of it is that horror fans are desperate for horror that has nice production values, so when something slick looking comes along with big acting talent, they may latch onto it in desperation. But with the horrid state of the entertainment industry, anything professional looking is going to be all-around subpar conceptually. Safe bet is subpar. They're not going to risk $$$ on anything refreshing. Go read ghost stories, 'weird fiction' horror from the early 1900's. Incredible stuff. It would be very refreshing. Nobody makes adaptations of it, nobody really tries. It could be very popular, a wave of movies based on horror being written around that time, who knows. A treasure trove of material. It's just waiting there.

A sequel could be semi interesting if they fixed the issues that plagued this film.
But a prequel sounds like absolute hot garbage.
