Having been a TNG fan for years who's finally gone back this year and watched TOS and all of the OG movies, I finally got to this after finishing The Undiscovered Country.FUCK this movieFuck every single thing about this movieI'm genuinely angry now having just finished this, I can't begin to imagine how angry fans must have been back in 94 sitting through this dog shit in a theaterWhat a fucking slap in the face it must have felt like
>>214734068I disagree.
>>214734068Seek out the Plinkett review of it, it beckons
>>214734122Die in a car fire.
>>214734068yes its a horrible movie for so many different reasons
>>214734209It's horrible in that unique way where it took the opportunity to do something really cool and special and just shat all over it for a quick buck. There's a lot of bad Trek. But nothing in the franchise has been as genuinely offensive as this shit.
>>214734068I don't get why people hate on this one so much but slobber over First Contact, that one was way worse. Yeah James Cromwell, Alice Krige, and Neal McDonaugh are kino character actors but that flick was straight doodoo, horribly paced, shitty action zombie space flick.>>214734226It wasn't "making a quick buck", it was trying to close out the TOS crew film franchise while starting the TNG film franchise.
>>214734068Star Trek always sucked at respecting characters from previous series. It's the same in the TV shows.>Scotty is an outdated fossil >Bones is a cranky old bigot who is gonna kick the bucket in 2 minutes>Worf is a loser who abandons his son>Q is not actually all-powerful and an annoyance at best. Also has oneitis for Picard's old flame (who happens to be a petty criminal)>Thomas Riker is a terrorist now>Seven of Nine isn't a cool logical femme fatal, but actually a super emotional wreck
>>214734297>I don't get why people hate on this one so much but slobber over First Contact, that one was way worse.First Contact ruins Picard and the Borg, but in isolation, it is a fun action flick. In other words, it embraces what it is.Generations, on the other hand, damages everything, and for what? Very cookie-cutter story
>>214734068I saw this in theaters with my dad who grew up on TOS in its original run. We were both furious. My dad watched TNG but he hated Picard and all the 90s political correctness which was original woke. Captain Kirk and Spock were my favorite and just hated that this shit was how they sent Kirk out. Awful movie
>>214734348>>Worf is a loser who abandons his sonBro Worf tried to kill himself because a barrel fell on him. He has always been a loser that gave up quick and treated Alexander like shit.
>>214734068Go be a fag elsewhere. No one hated this when it came out. It was what the end of TNG should have been and the end of TNG should have been the movie, but no one hated this movie at all
>>214734068Star Trek movies suck because the franchise is just mediocre background noise and that doesn't really translate well into a short movie format.
>>214734348>Scotty is an outdated fossil I didn't hate that episode, I think it handled Scotty well enough and respectfully. Geordi is written like an asshole but the writers almost never got Geordi right.>Bones is a cranky old bigot who is gonna kick the bucket in 2 minutesYeah I didn't love this. I get they needed something to tie the pilot to the OG series but they could have done something better than that.>Worf is a loser who abandons his sonMan that was the case as soon as Alexander showed up, DS9 didn't change that.>Q is not actually all-powerful and an annoyance at best. Also has oneitis for Picard's old flame (who happens to be a petty criminal)Yeah this one's indefensible>Thomas Riker is a terrorist nowI'll give you this one. They should have never brought him back if they were only going to ruin him in one episode then send him off to a prison colony and never mention him again.>Seven of Nine isn't a cool logical femme fatal, but actually a super emotional wreckI haven't watched Picard but I'm sure it's awful so I'll give you this one sight unseen.
All TNG movies suck. Just like the TOS cast movies are good except for the Shatner one. Weird how that turned out. No one wants TNG to be an action thriller franchise.
>>214734547> No one hated this when it came out. The fuck they didn’t. Critics hated it and so did fans of TOS. It is considered one of the worst Trek movie made
>>214734068At least its not as bad as Nemesis
>>214734604First Contact is kino and fun and I will die on this hill
>>214734068TOS got to remake and expand an episode for their first movie. TNG should have done that with Yesterday's Enterprise but it's Kirk on the Enterprise that comes through the rift.
>>214734753Shouldn’t even been Kirk Star Trek 6 was a good farewell to the original crew. Spock being in TNG was fine because Vulcans live to be old. But Scotty showing up was stupid. And McCoy somehow still alive in the pilot episode, whatever.
Better than any other TNG movie because it's about meaningful themes of aging rather than pure sci fi schlock like the others. Yes I'm including First Contact
Why are people so mad about how Kirk died? He chose to take a chance for the sake of some planet he never met. That's noble.
>>214734753>Yesterday's Enterprise but it's Kirk on the Enterprise that comes through the rift. This was considered but it was decided there were far too many characters to accommodate
>>214734068This has to be a shitty movie if every single TOS movie beats it a thousandfold.
The main theme is great https://youtube.com/watch?v=FBdmVGGaJEE
>>214735123Not that he died it was the whole gimmicky aspect. He has almost nothing to do with the movie. He’s barely in the beginning and shows up at the end and dies.
I hate how First Contact gets glazed >DOOD it's a fun action flickThat's why it's bad
>>214734068Guy on the left LOOKS LIKE ELON MUSK
>>214734068Why do you hate it? Because Picard cries over his dead nephew?
>>214735261That's true. Kirk and Soran were the main interesting parts. There should have been less of Data being a jackass, and more of those too. Especially Kirk in retirement and in the Nexus.
>>214734068Fucking awful movie
I enjoyed all the TOS movies and I liked this one too.
When Nimoy, Kelly, and Takei all said no to coming back because the script was dog shit, they should have taken that as a sign to try to rework the scriptThey had to know the Data subplot was trash and had nothing to do with the rest of the movieThey had to know the Duras sisters subplot ate up way too much time and where nowhereThey had to know Kirk felt completely tacked on at the end and literally serves no purpose other than to be a second pair of hands for Picard to fight Soren with, which is something any character could have done and doesn't highlight anything special about KirkWere they really so desperate for money that they couldn't take even an extra week to try to hammer out the script more?
>has klingons as bad guys again>political thriller>still best film in the franchiseWe won TUC bros
>>214735779This. I know a lot of people were pissed that Kirk was hardly in the movie when promotions made it look like he was going to be in it a lot. I don’t know why they do this and get shocked when people get pissed at being deceived. This was a big reason people were angry with Ang Lee’s Hulk. The trailers and all the promos made the movie look like was going to be a full on Hulk Smash movie
>>214735819By far my favorite Trek movie
>>214735863I've always liked the low key Klingon makeup for that guy
>>214734710So die.
>>214735779They should have had the first half hour for Kirk in his time trying to Make a Difference and stop Soran blowing up a star, like in retirement and he realises something is up but no one believes him, then fails and gets caught up in the Nexus
>>214735871They knew the job. Can’t hide Plummer’s face in a shit ton of makeup. Defeats the purpose
>>214735891I would’ve watched an entire movie of Kirk in the Nexus redoing shit he wish he had done instead
>>214735819>this movie had David Bowie's wife in it as hot alien lady>mfw she is 70 and still looks kinoDayum
How kino would it have been if Kirk had seen Edith Keller in the nexus instead of some random woman?
>>214736016Next Gen writers had never watched TOS
I'm surprise Lower Decks never poked fun at the Nexus. Closest we got was Kirk's farm where the script would have had Kirk teach Boimler how to deal with the loss of comrades and close friends. But apparently that was to silly for Shatner since he both turned it down and complained about the show, so they got Takei instead.Honestly baffling since it would have treated Kirk as a good mentor unlike a third wheel who appears and dies, like in Generations.>>214735863taH pagh taHbe
>>214736016>Random WomanI thought it was supposed to be Carol Marcus.
>>214736016That would’ve been awesome!
Test
>>214736100No the Nexus lady is called something else
>>214734068The original plan for star trek 7 was different. The enterprise D was supposed to be sent back to the past because of the nexus. The TNG crew had to figure out a way to get back home. The TNG crew would explore the past for a bit, before being discovered by the TOS crew and the enterprise A. The Excelsior was destroyed. The A gets warped to the future. The D is still destroyed. Kirk still dies, but this time by piloting the D's star drive into the klingons. Because he finds out that he dies shortly after khitomer under mysterious circumstances, knowing that this is how he goes. The A get sent back home. The TOS crew gets their minds wiped by spock using a secret vulcan technique. Spock tells no one what happened to kirk, not even starfleet and thus he's court martialed. The movie ends with the commissioning of the enterprise B. TNG era starfleet finally learns the truth about kirk's death. There was supposed to be a stowaway character who smuggled himself aboard the A, because he wants to live in the past; during starfleet's golden era of exploration. He escaped the mind wipe by spock. This character was supposed to be setup as a villain in the next movie. Dont remember the rest. It's been ages since I trawled the star trek bbs forums of the 90's.
>>214736197nice fanfic
>>214736016she cute
>>214736168Oh yeah, I looked it up. It was some random woman named Antonia.Wow, they couldn't even be bothered to pay the writers for Carol? Her actress would have killed to be in another star trek movie given she was only cut out of Search for Spock because of budget concerns.
>>214736197Wow! Sounds like shit!
>>214736279> Her actress would have killed to be in another star trek movie given she was only cut out of Search for Spock because of budget concerns. They wouldn’t have used her. She would’ve been too old. Memory was when Kirk decided to go back to Star Fleet
>>214736312When was the memory supposed to take place anyway with respect to WoK
>>214734068Honestly the movie wasn't that bad, aside from Geordi getting his visor hacked AGAIN and the last act leading to Kirk's death.
>>214736327I take kt after end of their original five year voyage. Kirk retires. It should’ve been Carole because that’s when he hooks up with her and has David. They break up because he goes back to Starfleet and she didn’t want their son to be like him, which I always hated. Make it like like he some bad guy
>>214736312Consider she died 2 years after generations was released, I think with enough make up, they could have made it work. Also it's the Nexus, you could just say space magic made Carol look older because Kirk imagines what she'd look like after they made amends in Wrath of Khan.
>>214736400You never even saw "Antonia" closeup
>>214736364Actually. now that I think of it. He had to have hooked up with Carol before his five year mission because David was in his 20s. So yeah, I guess that’s why they used a different woman for that memory
>>214736364He could have just gotten her name wrong. You know how it is in dreamsPicard sees himself as the father of young children, married to a woman who resembles Beverly but isn't her.
>>214736414I'm guessing it was an expy for Carol but like with Nick Locarno totally not being Tom Paris, they didn't include Carol because it would mean giving nicholas myers or whoever else created her a cut.
>>214736494It couldn’t have been Carol. She hooked up with Kirk when he was a junior officer and had a long distance relationsh and ended up getting pregnant around the time he became a Captain. He was off traveling the universe while she worked in a lab so she ended things
>>214735486Picard has the ability to travel back to any point in time but chooses not to save his family. And it's not because temporal prime directive or any shit like that, he is already traveling back in time to stop Soran
>>214736578>Picard has the ability to travel back to any point in timeThe movie is better if you substitute Guinan's line with>You can leave whenever you want, exactly when and where you came here. How's he supposed to go "anywhere in time"? He could only conceivably go places where the Nexus has been, and that's nowhere near his family.
>>214736279Better pic of her
>>214736626She has a TOS phenotype.
>>214736568I mean Kirk could have shown some regret over it drifting away from Carol, and the fact he barely knew his son who hated him, sorta made amends and is promptly ganked by the klingons.
>>214736088Not Star Trek
>>214736643She was a stunt woman
First night watching generations was pretty good atmosphere all fans. But yeah the movie wasn't brilliant.
>>214736658For sure. Instead some random ass memory of some woman we never knew, it should’ve been Carol telling him she was pregnant and old Kirk knowing what happens to their son decides this time he will tell her he’s quitting Starfleet
>>214736666It has best girl, your opinion is invalid.
The movie was fine(not great but fine) right up til "we need to go back to the planet". Kirk should have been commanding a ship not fist fighting, I guess TOS was known for having Kirk go on a planet and fighting so it kinda makes sense why they did it but it fucking sucked.Bridge on the captain.
>>214734068fuck TNG movies and fuck Patrick Stewart
>>214736760Especially when Kirk tells Spock and McCoy “I always known. I’ll die alone.” Except he dies with Picard with him
>>214736760Shatner proposed that Kirk takes command of the Ent-D while evacuating the crew, and defeats the Klingon thots at the cost of his own life
>>214736760The film could have been upgraded from crap to "it's ok" with a rewrite of the third act and more explanation on why Soran needed that specific planet. Like, when he encountered the Nexus it was in a Nebula that had special particles that weakened it enough to be able to enter it, and the planet he chose had those same particles in the atmosphere (otherwise why not just beam into it from a ship). For the third act make it so that unless you change history to never enter the Nexus it snaps you back after a few minutes, so Picard and Kirk try to go to Ten Forward or something to catch Soran there from earlier in the movie, but the Soran that entered the Nexus stops them. Maybe they fight inside the Nexus and Soran somehow forces them back to the planet (there would be 2 Sorans, 2 Picards and Kirk? At it's core it is a time travel plot and Trek had done stuff like this before). Kirk chooses to remain in the Nexus because he can't afford to undo his heroics.
>>214737305Make it so you can step out of the Nexus just after it passed, but nowhere else, like stepping off a carousel. You shouldn't be able to use it to teleport to ten forward
>>214737332That opens up a small can of worms about them walking out into a supernova and getting vaporized.
>>214734068Pretty sure the original idea was to bring the both crews together which would've functioned as a nice sendoff for the TOS crew and a segue for the TNG crew but most of the TOS cast didn't want anything to do with it.So instead we get this weird intro where Scotty and Chekov show up in the first five minutes then disappear, then the rest of the movie is only the TNG crew, then at the end Kirk and Picard fight the villain of the week on a mountain and Kirk dies and gets buried under a pile of rocks.
>>214737453Oh yeah true that doesn't workOk then just before you entered. Like Picard does. So his choices were go back to when he did, taking Kirk with him, or Kirk goes back to the Ent B taking Picard with him, which is not helpful.Just do away with the "you can go any time, any place" thing.
>>214734068I'm old, saw it in the theater, and I didn't get mad. It was just lame and we didn't get mad at things being lame back then. We just told our friends it was lame and they didn't go.
>>214736197>The TNG crew had to figure out a way to get back homefly around the sun, spock figured it out
>>214737671Not legal
>>214736613he could have gone back to when they first picked up Soran and put a space bullet in his head?
>>214737660That's how it still works in China because they're a bit insulated from the worst kinds of ad campaigns and social media. Some movie will have like a 90% drop in its second weekend entirely from sincere person to person negative word of mouth.
>>214737687Only Kirk could have stopped Soran that way, by stepping back to right before he got sucked into the Nexus, but at what cost? All of the 24th century would be different. If you make it so you can only exit at a few minutes before where and when you personally entered, including a guest, then it works.
>>214737478Leonard Nimoy shot down the script for basically being shit which is why he was a no show.DeForest Kelley was up for showing but he couldn't be insured due to ill health which is reason he doesn't appear. The whole movie feels like something that was butchered not just in editing but during production. There are Romulans bodies that appear yet they have no impact or relevance to the story whatsoever. It feels like a movie they were pushed to make with what they had by studio execs but everyone knew it was not ready.
>>214737704no I mean when TNG picked him up, I can't remember the scene it's years since I watched this but how did picard come into contact with Soran? Oh wait I think that was a different ship that got struck by the nexus and they picked him up, I dunno
>>214737745Chekov's appearance was clearly written with McCoy in mind
>>214736833>Ummmm thanks Bill but I think we'll have Marina crash it instead
>>214734068Most of the shooting time and budget went into the sailing ship scenes. The rest for location shooting in the desert.
It was just nice seeing the Ent-D interior lit like a movie. All golden light and dramatic shadows.
>>214737942The ship scenes were completely wasted money
>>214734547>No one hated this when it came outWhat's the point of such a lazy lie?
>>214737704>space heaven>blowing up planet>time travelGenerations is just an awful mash of awful tropes, executed extremely badly
>a random Bird of Prey somehow takes out the entire Enterprise
>>214737942Didn't William Shatner insist on a skydiving scene because he really wanted to go skydiving? They shot it and it never made the film.
>>214734547I don't personally remember it (I was born in 2005) but I feel pretty confident it was hated.
>>214734297>I don't get why people hate on this one so much but slobber over First Contact, that one was way worse. They're both pure shit.

>>214734547>No one hated this when it came ouHow old are you, anon?
>>214737991It should have been Riker promoted instead of Worf
At the time people didn't get bogged down in the details of the plot, the culture was different then. But general audiences were upset that Captain Kirk died and they didn't like any of the TNG loser crew.
>>214738742They were annoyed that they killed Kirk off in a lame way. They had to reshoot the ending as originally he got shot in the back which audiences hated.
>>214738742TNG was fucking massive by the time the series ended, only fat boomers cared that a fat boomer died
>>214738890>TNG was fucking massiveAmong losers and nerds. Normal people didn't really watch TNG but might see a TOS rerun or one of the movies on tv.>only fat boomers cared that a fat boomer diedBoomers were around 40 or so when the movie came out, they were the main audience and yeah they cared.
>>214734068Generations was a corporate mandate to get Kirk and Picard together. They thought about getting the OG and TNG fighting each other but realized that wouldn't work.So they had to come up with some bullshit which resulted in The Ribbon.I fucking hate this movie as by the time TNG finished it had firmly established itself and didn't need OGST to prop it up.This is why I think All Good Things should have been a movie!!!FACT!!!
>>214734547>No one hated this when it came out.I distinctly remember my dad thinking it was dogshit at the time.
It was weird how the Enterprise got destroyed in the very first TNG movie.A bad omen, in hindsight. They never found their footing with the new edgy ship.
>Kirk dies on the bridge Pottery
>>214735486>Why do you hate it? Because Picard cries over his dead nephew? One of the big problems is that in each movie they felt that Picard should be experiencing a particular emotion;Generations - SadnessFirst Contact - AngerInsurrection - LoveNemesis - Wanting to suck cock!TNG was an ensemble piece while the movies mostly revolved around Picard and Data!!!FACT!!!
>>214737942>"The actual boat was called the Lady Washington and the scene had a lot of financial and technical discussions about the length of the shoot and all those kinds of things," Carson adds. "In the beginning, us wanting a budget between $50-55 million was constantly clobbered on the head until we were able to come up with a figure that the studio liked. Eventually, it settled at about $32 million but every part of that was under incredible financial pressure from the studio. That probably had to do with the fact that I was a TV director. I hadn't done a studio movie before.>"Bernie Williams was my line producer, who actually worked with Kubrick in the early days. He basically said if we cut the boat scene we'd get to the budget figure we wanted. But I wasn’t going to cut the boat scene. It was incredibly important because the imagery takes us back into the past and forward into the future, and it's what the movie is all about. That's where the mortality theme really starts to take off. It was going to take about two weeks to film, so I cut two weeks out of the schedule and they gave me boat scene. That's how it stayed in the movie."

>>214739088>TNG was an ensemble pieceBy season 7 TNG was strictly the Picard and Data show.
>>214739027>I'm still annoyed that they didn't update Michael Meyers mask for the recent Halloween trilogy!!!FACT!!!
>>214739003>Normal people didn't really watch TNG but might see a TOS rerun or one of the movies on tvThat's the complete opposite of reality, TNG was a mainstream family show and TOS was the nerds choice. There's a reason it took Gene 20 years to get a new trek series off the ground. TOS barely even got a third season with a reduced budget, TNG went from strength to strength. TOS movies being 50% good and TNG movies being utter shit does not change the reception of the respective tv shows.
>>214739096>But I wasn’t going to cut the boat scene. It was incredibly important because the imagery takes us back into the past and forward into the future, and it's what the movie is all about. What a fucking retardThat didn't have the desired effect at all.Instead of that shit, he could have had an establishing shot of the Enterprise-D cruising enormously past a gas giant or something. You know we don't actually see the ship until a quick shot where it's evading the Amergosa supernova?

>>214739220>>it should have ended after season 5>You're not wrong thereIt's the same way I feel about The X-Files, Buffy The Vampire Slayer and any other show that wears out their welcome with Game of Thrones being the biggest and most recent example. Most shows hit their watercooler mainstream peak during their 3rd season, carry that over to the 4th and then goes down hill. This is because back then you had to produce a certain number of episodes (around 80 or so) for syndication thus granting royalties to everyone working on them. This is why they would crank out at least 20 episodes a season to hit that number ASAP. Once they got there everything else after is gravy and no one cares anymore as it's just collecting an easy paycheck. !!!ACT!!!

Apparently the original TOS episodes were all 2.5hrs each, and edited down for broadcasting. Gimmie that shit
>>214734068All of the TNG movies suck.
It has literally one good scene and that's the Enterprise crashing, and even then the setup for it being shot down is retarded and weak.
>>214734068I don't think it's a bad movie, it's just disappointing because it's not good enough to live up to the "Kirk meets Picard" premise, mainly because Kirk is barely in the movie... he feels like a cameo.

>>214744281They truly do. I think it's pretty fair to consider All Good Things as functionally the end of what we canon see of Picard.I also treat Voyager as "loose" canon, because it's criminal what it did to the Borg.NuTrek is also not canon.
>>214745641Man I remember being sad at how permanently ruined the Borg were walking out of First Contact despite being aware that it was pretty good just as a movie.

>>214739838>reddit frog Opinion discarded normalfag
Mighty Peculiar
>>214739131Both are nerdy, but you can see that big changes were made to the formula to give the 90s Trek shows wider appeal. In TOS there are no annoying kid characters, whereas the later shows have Wesley, Jake, Alexander, Nog (lmao) and more. The holodeck is brought in to increase variety, creating little period drama shows within the show. They have Lwaxana Troi as a recurring character for old women. The Enterprise-D has Ten Forward, a laid-back bar area for the characters to let their hair down and socialise, showing them outside their military roles and making them more relatble. It all helped bring Star Trek more in line with the television trends of the era.At the same time, though, much of it was aimed squarely at nerds, like everything involving Brent Spiner. The antics arising from Data's emotion chip would only entertain a sperg. The Klingon arc in DS9 is strictly for nerds. Garak and Cardassian culture: also nerdy.
>>214742334Both budget and given there's so many horrible and dishonorable ways to die, like that one engineer who merged into the floor. Worf got off easy.
>>214739661>You've never seen the section movie niggaWhat are you talking about?

>>214735264I find this notion that ST isn't allowed to have fun action flicks a bit pretentious.Have you seen the show? not every episode is cerebral. Some of them are just fun.
The first 15 minutes are brilliant - better than anything i've seen in any other star trek. The dynamics of the new captain trying to impress his hero Kirk while shit went down was perfect. And then the sequence ending with Scotty's 'Aye' when Chekhov asked if anyone was in there. That was 10/10 film-making.As for the main story, I like it. I liked Kirk leaving his paradise 'to make a difference one more time.' And Picard's decision was just as difficult after the tragedy of his nephew early in the movie. I thought Picard and Kirk had cool chemistry too. So I don't understand the hate this film gets. I will say I'm not really a star trek fan. I love movies. I haven't skipped this thread just to reply and the best i can surmise is star trek fans really loved Kirk and felt he should have been used more. But as I said, he gave up his own personal paradise just to be in the game one more time. That's a great sendoff and shows his character. Not just a good star trek movie but a good movie with some great moments
>>214749703>just funAnon, I must protest. I am not a merry man.
>>214735819>Alien courtroom>escape from an alien prisonIDK, maybe this movie established the tropes so it deserves the credit in the same way Foundation deserves credit for the concept of galactic empires, but it all just seems so tired. I have no desire to rewatch those parts of the movie.

>>214735264>glazedI hate how this is now happening.
Duuuude... what if the Nexus is some how connected to the Q Continuum? What if it's a natural phenomena that demonstrates the physical properties of reality that the Q utilized to become what they are, like lightning is to the electronic age? I never thought of it like this before, but I think this might be my new headcanon.
>>214735779>They had to know the Duras sisters subplot ate up way too much time and where nowhereI thought it was a welcome change that the main bad guy knew he needed something to distract the good guys while he carried out his plan. And it's a good thing that the distractors are characters we know from the show.
>>214735819>has klingons as bad guys againThey were only the bad guys in one previous movie.

Its a cool movie. Malcolm mcdowell plays a compelling bad guy and patrick stewart gets to act. Second only to star trek v

>>214750246That's the shittiest beta canon I've ever heard, because it gives additional credence to shitty alpha canon. What's next? The Tkon Empire was wiped out by a Burn event?
>>214737745All of the TNG movies just felt so slapped together and it’s maddening. I get why generations was shit, studio mandates forcing Kirk to be included. But first contact has a nonsense script with a movie budget and both insurrection and nemesis had no through line or purpose within them. It’s really telling how much they were focusing on the shows at the time that they felt no need to create a proper movie division to handle that

>>214750722Yes, a big foggy head being exists, is a dick, and is powerful enough to barely make it onto a top 30 most powerful beings list in Star Trek lore... and is called "God" because the writers of the movie are hacks.
>>214750204I remember having the thought about it being stupid that the seemingly normal rocket reached the sun from an Earthlike planet in a few seconds while watching the movie on DVD at like age 10, then RLM mentioning it in that video and boy howdy was that a parasocial connection.
>>214750692Is it a controversial take to like Sybok? The movie was kind of ass but I actually thought he was an interesting character and feel like he could have been a Khan tier antagonist if he had been written for a movie with a better plot

>>214750893He was fineThere was a little too much goofing around overall in the movie. I didn't like how Scotty got sidelined. A little bit about how he's unaffected by Sybock because he's completely content looking after the ship would have been good
>>214734710Contrary to the other poster, i don't want you to die. I used to like FC but changed my mind after watching it again after seeing all of TNG-Borg queen is dumb-Picard having a revenge fueled shitfit towards the Borg doesn't fit with his post assimilation attitude of respecting the autonomy of one free drone rather than loading him up with a virus to genocide the the entire borg.-The worf shitfit is stupid.However-The post apocalyptic garage warp drive vibe is kinda cool.Overall i didn't like it and feel it messed up the characterization.
>>214751398Right? There are a lot of dumb things in Star Trek movies that could be explained away with a single line of exposition.>Data: Dr. Soran is a brilliant propulsion scientist, he even in invented a small warp module capable of being mounted to an object as small as a probing satellite.>Picard, gravely: Or a rocket...There. I fixed it in less than five seconds of screen time.
ALL the Star Trek movies suck.
>>214751259give it a sci-fi propulsion effect then, even just the warp sound effect and a dust cloud or something. We've never seen a warp drive started on the surface of a planet so this is a good time for it. And it probably wouldn't have been any more expensive than a big practical rocket effect.
>>214750893Spock having a secret brother that TOS never informed us about is just as bad as Spock having an adopted human sister.
>>214751635The writers don't really care enough They'd rather have a sailboat for no reason
>>214751724>Tell me captain, have you ever seen a warp drive activation on the surface of a planet?>Soran, stop! This is madness!>Oh quite the contrary. I've never felt better in my life.
I wish that the first TNG movie was the crossover where they fought the mirror universe version of the TOS cast
>>214750893I watched it again a year or so ago and thought Sybok was good.
>>214751736It's explained that he's a sort of heretic exile in their culure. It was taboo to mention Sybok.I preferred The Final Frontier after the constant (and unfunny) comedy of The Voyage Homage.
>>214751398You'd really want Soren to.take time out to explain to somebody that 'luckily my rocket is warp capable'?
>>214752172Maybe just write a better scene than "rocket goes to the sun immediately"
>>214752167Yeah I saw the movie but it was still retarded as was the handwave for why he wasn't spoken of. Spock having a full Vulcan sibling who is both more intelligent and charismatic than he could have been an interesting episode of TOS but leaving it for a movie is dumb.
>and your first rank in the fleet will be... Captain!now this is a bad movie
>>214752172Show don't tell Instead of a rocket, it's a warp effect. And then a two second special effects shot of it in space tearing towards the sun like a torpedo at high warp
>>214752167In defense of The Voyage Home, the bit where Chekov asks the cop where the nuclear structures are with his Russian accent in 1986 and the cop just stares at him from behind his mirrored shades got a genuine chuckle out of me.
>>214752167Voyage Home is boomer humour, it's not meant for you
>>214752457That leads to a deeply irritating scene with Chekov being interviewed by the authorities. They keep asking who he is and what he wants, and he keeps repeating that he's Starfleet Commander Chekov from the United Federation of Planets, as if it should help his case, when obviously that rank is meaningless in the 20th century. The film makes the crew act in ways that are not only stupid but out of character, all for the sake of crap jokes. And it does this constantly.
Speaking of First Contact, I maintain that they missed a chance by not having the Phoenix powered by nuclear blasts. A substitute for the antimatter using the future. Crank up the subspace field to full power, but it doesn't make you move until you dump energy into it with a nuclear warhead, taken from the very rocket they're using. Those things had like a dozen warheads. It's a nice symbolism of turning a destructive weapon to peaceful purposes>Riker: Doc, I still don't see where your power is coming from>Geordi: Oh it's called pulsed warp propulsion, we learned about it at the Academy, remember?>Riker: Not really>Cochrane: Hold onto your asses fellas, you're gonna feel a little jolt
All complaints about scientific accuracy are pointless. The people who write movies haven't got the slightest idea about how anything works. They don't know that stars are several light-minutes from their planets.Unironically TOS is the most scientifically accurate of the series.
>>214734297>I don't get why people hate on this one so muchBecause its basically a below average TNG two parter that has the additional benefit of killing Captain Kirk in a horrible, unsatisfying way.
I can't even remember what happens in Generations between the sailing ship scene and meeting Captain Kirk in the nexus

Personally, I liked Generations. The Nexus was a bit cringe, but Data getting his emotion chip was hilarious. Plus, it set the stage for Tendi.
