All the sequels get increasingly esoteric with their weapon choices/configurations, martial arts showcases, and genre allusions. If you were on the fence about the first one don't bother with the sequels. If you're a bigtime gunfag or a fightsportfag there's a lot to chew on during the rest of the series. I'm a gunfag and liked the worldbuilding in the first one so I saw them all and didn't feel like I wasted my time with any of them but I can see how the general audience probably tuned out during the middle of the 3rd movie at latest.

I actually enjoy the sheer hubris of these films. It gets clearly more unbelievable as they keep going, but I can't help but enjoy the commitment to the bit of going on and on and on with such a thin premise.The best allegory for this is Wick falling the stairs in the 4th movie. That moment is the entire film series.

Once you accept that they are effectively high quality slop with half decent (and more importantly, original) characterisation and setting they get a lot better.
