Humiliation ritual?

NYC in the 70s and 80s was such a shithole.

Al’s bussy status?

I wouldn't want to live there, but it made for kino setting.

He plays a cop who goes undercover as a gay man.

his humiliation ritual started far earlier in scarecrow where he's beaten and raped by another man.

How's this compare to dog day afternoon. I liked that one

Cruising, Dog Day Afternoon, and Dick Tracy are a single canon and should be watched in that order.

He also did dog day summer. Was he gay this whole time?

Reminder that this was a real thing that happened, because if you said a cop hit you you'd have a lawsuit but if you said a gay black cowboy hit you no one would believe you.

Dog Day Afternoon is even worse. It's marketed as a bad ass bank hostage movie. Reviews talk about it like it's a bad ass bank hostage movie.

In reality it's the story of two closeted homosexuals robbing a bank for money for a third one to have a sex change. And when they get there they convince the whole bank and the town and eventually the country that they're the good guys in the situation and the whole bank crew is cheering for them to get away and live their homosexual dreams in Tahiti.

Like what the fuck. This isn't what I signed up for.
>>
>>214797235
You missed the part where it's a satiric black comedy.

It's a true story

Life's funnee, ain't it? *Cuts off cock and gets set on fire and run over by a bus*
>>

like 30% of it is. Just the guy being a closeted fag and having a tranny lover was the only true part
>>
>>214796630
I thought the crust busting scene was contrived. I didn’t really buy Al Pacino was really enjoying the meth OR the double fisting.

The fisting scene was kino
>>
>>214796532

I watched this a long time ago. Then I read on /tv/ that the ending scene is supposed to suggest pacino is the killer. I didn't catch that at all.

>THERE WAS FUCKING. THERE WAS SUCKING. THERE WAS FISTING. I SAID TO AL I SAID AL, YOU BETTER BE PREPARED FOR THIS. THE ONLY THING WE CHANGED WAS THE DISCO MUSIC WHICH WAS TOO FRUITY EVEN FOR THIS PICTURE.
>>
>>214796532
Movie was sleaze kino but really the actual plot didn’t make a lot of sense and the “who is the real killer” thing didn’t really work
>>
>>214796532
Do Poppers do anything for you if your straight or is it just a gay person drug?
>>
>>214799170
overall there's three killers. The first murder in the film is done by a different guy than the one that gets caught, with the letters and all. And then there's Pacino at the end, killing his neighbour. What people don't understand is that Friedkin tries to communicate the death drive that is ontological to homosexual sex. This explains the history of viral illnesses, dangerous drug use, bugchasing and barebacking culture and so on
>>
>>214796566
It's probably even worse now. Sure it's more cleaned-up, but fucked if the criminals are the ones who are in charge, and the people who stand up to them are the ones who get jailed and prosecuted.
>>
>>214799361
>PACINO YOU FUCKING FAGGOT
>YOU LITTLE COCKSUCKER.

When fags abandoned the "Rob Halford tough guy" look to embrace a more feminized version of being gay.

My guess is like with all beta men it's the product of men who just didn't want to make the effort to be that ripped faggot with a 6-pack stomach

Idk movie made them look deranged for most of it and then when the guy is shot in the end it's depicted as taking out the trash

Not the only time I saw it happen in movies, such a weird trope.

Unironically his best performance together with Bobby Deerfield. And it's a great movie too.
>>
>>214800449
>Unironically his best performance
Nah, for me its always going to be the scene from dog day where hes on the phone with his wife, and his tranny wife, and everything is falling apart and theres this slow push-in on his face when he hangs up, and he has this hangdog expression until it cuts to his pov and shows everyone standing around the table waiting for him. Its fucking great.
Also justice for all

>>
>>214796532
I know Pacino was a bit old for the role, but I don't think his age really held it back. It's a bit weird hearing Friedkin wishing it was Richard Gere so bad instead.
>>
>>214797235
I don't think Dog Day Afternoon ever tries to give the image of being badass. It's very apparent from early on that the robbers are amateurs in over their head, it's more about the stress of the situation than anything else.
>>
>>214796532
Nick Mullen travelled back in time to write it
>>
>>214800949

Gere wouldn't work because he doesn't have the air of sleaze that would convince you he'd get sucked into that world. It's funny that all the gay club patrons basically have Pacino's phenotype.

Clearly you haven't seen Looking for Mr Goodbar, he's the sleaziest and most dangerous guy in the movie, more dangerous than the murderer, oops spoilers.
>>
Really good movie. If you can find it, give a listen to the commentary track with both Friedkin and Kermode. Friedkin is always such great value.

Actually here's a link to it:

nah
most leather guys were gigasluts who all died from AIDS; hence the death of this leather scene after the 1980s
also, by the 1980s, this aesthetic was like decades old, ubiquitous, globalized, and fags just wanted to move on to something fresher: the whole 1980s techno/house club revolution provided a new model
and as societies were more and more accepting (1990s-2000s), there was in decrease in the absolute necessity to create an alternative macho culture
>>
I have yet to see the film itself (been meaning to for the longest time), but I love this video https://youtu.be/b-UogrWajyg
>I sent this to the ratings board with 40 additional minutes which amounted to pure male pornography

>>
>>214799572
I'm just a heterosexual (or "straighty" as you homos like to call us) but the gay community never should have abandoned the whole Tom Of Finland thing. That was fun! Ever seen a fat gay dude? Bums you out. Big time. As least the little ones (you call them "twinks") are cute. But a Rob Halford, Freddy Mercury gay, that's the ideal. You wouldn't even be mad if your son turned out to be one of THOSE gays because he's still an absolute alpha.
