Batman begins and the dark knight were every aspect of 9/11 chopped up and rearranged for the purpose of granting the catharsis we never got. The omniscient surveillance is used to isolate bad actors from innocents (it wasn’t) is dumped as soon as the threat is over (if wasn't), the joker doesn’t win (osama did) and the US gets to keep being a force of good in the world (it isn’t).
