Because TV seasons are now produced like movies, where it takes about three years to get it done and you get the same amount of content that you would get in an average movie, but with a bunch of filler to stretch the runtime to eight episodes.I guess if a show gets four seasons in this format it can be considered long running since it would take about nine years to complete, not counting the time it took to produce the first season.

It worked for a handful of shows that should really have just been considered a new thing somewhere between movies and TV shows, but not as a replacement for TV shows. Now every low effort showrunner thinks and acts like a spoiled movie director with zero accountability or sense of urgency

If you have a lot episodes can make a lot from cabal channels that need to fill time slots. But since everything going steaming that’s no longer a requirement
