I do not relate to general audiences, the Facebook normalfaggotry is insufferable, but "critics" too are a type of normalfag most of the time.

Leonardo Dicaprios previous 5 movies have all been profitable, this goes back to The Wolf of Wall Street in 2013. In fact he's been in about 30 movies and less than a handful were flops.
So just continue being wrong I guess.
>>
>>214815870
Leo’s movies have been profitable, sure, but do you really give Leo the credit, or is it Cameron and Scorsese? Keep in mind that KOTFM and this flick were failures. There are plenty of films that earn billions without Leo, Cruise, or other 'stars'.
>>
>>214815895
The great majority of moviegoers do not shell out for a ticket based on the directors name. The movie star is the draw, simple as. You know this very well.

>>
>>214815930

It's complicated. 'Stars' are kind of a draw, but I don't think they are major draws. Cameron, LOTR, and even the MCU didn't depend on 'stars'. Scorsese would have succeeded without Leonardo DiCaprio.
>>
>>214815951
They do but so do the much larger general audience who see Leonardo Dicaprio on the poster and go to watch the movie with Leonardo Dicaprio in it.
>>

New movie idea: “the burden”

A group of normal white men are radicalised as they witness their society being dismantled by violent retarded murderers, mentally ill degenerates and uppity women.

It’s a comedy where you have several archetypes most men are familiar with: naggy cunt hr women, loud blacks in public and Jewish government bureaucrats. However an undercurrent of truth and prescient social consequences is apparent in the film: one girlfriend aborts a baby and celebrates dancing on social media, a grandfather is carjacked and killed ect.

The film culminates with the group of men organising, getting weapons and committing several large scale terrorist attacks against government buildings, abortion clinics, synagogues and companies. Eventually their country is made safe via the physical removal of all evil, all detractors are sent “somewhere” if they refuse. The ending has them traveling to other nations to spread their ideology only to find that everyone else has had the same idea and a new white global golden age is ushered in. India is nuked in a post credit scene.

The characters are stylized and based pn 1960s politics from the book. The movie fails because Bob is not given agency, as in even when setting off bombs or trying to rescue his daughter he is subordinate to external values and plot contrivance, not because of the political ideologies of its caricatures.
>>
>>214819556

Weird that people will insist this movie is apolitical when the central characters seem to have no real agency or convictions of their own, leaving me to wonder what is actually left but vague communist sympathy. Leo bungles around for 2 hours looking for his daughter while he is miraculously saved from peril each time (never by his own actions), all until the movie ends, but there is little to no real establishing that these two care for one another because most of the first act is spent on black girl magic bullshit.

The political values of all of the characters in the movie are incoherent. This could have been used to underscore their innate humanity or the importance of family or relationships but the movie was actively preoccupied with disempowering its lead. Pussy was cute though.
>>
The great: the action sequences were sublime, Leo excellent, Benicio cooler than cool always, Penns best performance channeling both gen ripper and the George c Scott character whose name escapes me, chase qt, real heart by the end, hilarious physical comedy, soundtrack and score
The minor criticism: a little bit more chase and Leo early on after time jump would have gone a long way, just anchoring it in a little more warmth and not just paranoia before everything goes off the rails

Final verdict 5/5 stars, give more auteurs huge budgets for books they like

I agree, look at Syd Sweeney and Pedro Pascal. They are everywhere and most of their movies either bomb or underperform. Zendaya got a ton of hype for Challengers and that didn't even make money. The A List of today is not like Cruise, Leo, Will Smith used to be. The biggest names all bomb sometimes now.

>>214822923
I felt pretty much the exact oppossite. Despite what many here are saying, there's a great movie underneath KOTFM. It has it's white guilt tendencies, but I didn't find the specific location and time period to be far off or wildly innacurate. Just exaggerated for a modern liberal audiences sake. And it's based off a true story so there's less wiggle room for argument (though the debate about it's political leanings can still be had)

One Battle After Another was based off a book that I think really deserves to take place between the late 60's - early 80's for the context and themes to be appreciated. PTA planting the story into modern times really throws off any benefit of doubt I can give it, since it hardly underplays it's political allignment during an era of very devisive cultures. Making political films is always risky because it's really important to put the audience in the role of the heroes and pit them against Higher corrupt powers. The enemey really has to be understood as something working against the interest of the common people.

But if you go into this as a conservative, you'll see it as blatant propaganda celebrating the type of violence that has been ignored and on the rise that Powerful institutions seem to ignore or celebrate if it's a political opportunity. If you're left-wing, you think this portrayal of America is a true story, and the bad guys really are just pure evil as depicted in this film. But it's so cartoonish it's absurd anybody would take this seriously.

Then you have the hype about this being an action film, as if that might be the ride you're ultimately on and you can ignore all the overt and subvert political leanings. But it's really just a picture in the same scope of a Coen brothers film or Dennis Velinueve, but feels like a bag of cheap camera tricks to make the movie feel bigger than it is. I think PTA approves of the guns, violence, revolutionary activism it takes to win his Hollywood version of America.

they aren't depicted in a very clear way because they are cartoons, stylized memes about 70s leftist milita groups rather than an attempt to present people with real motivations.

the group in Network honestly felt more believable and they were *overtly* comedic, to the point of dropping the pretence of caring about communism after like two scenes.

the weird cartoonishness of the good/evil dynamic in this film, combined with the way it really wants to be gritty at the same time, actually reminded me of Heaven's Gate more than anything else.

i think this movie doesnt deserve to be compared to koftm. they have the same lead guy but its very different and just too much up its own ass and too cynical, just like pta does it every time.

Does anyone remember the timeline of Alex Garlands civil war?
how long was it after the antifa massacre did the country go into civil war? I really don't want to be in my 30s/40s hunting down 50 to 60 year old mods like swag and redwood in a war torn country

Very entertaining movie that made me feel some things at points. It definitely romances anarchistic anti-ice violence though. I’m surprised there hasn’t been more pushback. It’s a bit rich to make a movie condemning our current moment domestically and then “music by Johnny Greenwood” comes up in the closing credits. Hypocritical Jew. Ah well, 8/10.

Damn, guess I'll watch something else.
Maybe I should watch Weapons again.
Or Caught Stealing.

That recent Snow White

Summer is over. She’s supposed to be a radical, not a supermodel. She’s only in about half the movie. Also, your beauty standards change a bit if you ever fuck a black chick. Personally I find her attractive, like a 6.

Will skip this Oscarbait. Seems Hollweird is now pandering to Zlumpf. Which is just as cringe as pandering to Dems they did prior.

I tried to watch this tonight but couldn't make it 15 minutes in. I feel like I'm watching Season 2 of Eddington. Why is American political slop infecting my kinos? They even had a good cast. Who is watching this slop?

>One Battle After Another is not the first post-Obama movie (Harvey Weinstein once bragged about “the Obama Effect” on Hollywood), but its emphasis on political, racial, and sexual division operates on a new level. Anderson’s large-scale convoluted storyline of multiple characters, quarrels, vendettas, and hostilities actually reflect the Biden era, which provided liberal Hollywood an opportunity to indulge its screwiest fantasies about our national polarization.
What did he mean by this? Obama's been out of office for 9 years..

>Eddington
This movie is not remotely comparable to Eddington. This movie is like if Eddington were about the BLM guys and they were made the protags while Cross was the big bad. This movie is straight up strategy of tension propaganda while Eddington was based and saw through the bullshit of psyops and feds and cut through.
>>
>>214826235
>What did he mean by this
He's trying to talk about American politics/culture post-Occupy Wall Street, but because he's an establishment cuckservative he has to blame Obama for it.

i genuinely can not imagine disliking a movie purely because it doesn't align with your politics
>>
>>214826567
>disliking a movie purely because it doesn't align with your politics
It's not this movie isn't aligned with out politics, it's that it's lazy propaganda. If it were some intelligent, well-crafted, entertaining left-wing radical film like Giu La Testa or Eddington we'd love it, but it's not. It's just agitprop.
>>
>>214826527
>this movie isn't comparable to Eddington
>now I will immediately compare it to Eddington

its definitely the same genre and they both fail because they that aren't good enough at laughing at themselves.

>>now I will immediately compare it to Eddington
I was contrasting it with Eddington you fucking retard.
>they both fail because they that

>>
>>214826614
People did say the same thing about Eddington, though. Some just don't want to engage with art because they don't agree with the politics.
>>
>>214826730
>People did say the same thing about Eddington, though
Nobody here shat on Eddington for being woke, they only did that pre-release because it gave that initial impression. This in contrast is just straight up propaganda without any real depth, and not even well-made or pretty propaganda.
