There was a creepypasta I read ages ago that I remember being good (and how rare that is) about an asteroid impacting the moon and awakening something living in it that causes everyone who looks at the moon to become a murderous cultist freak like the niggas in John Carpenter's Ghosts of MarsThe protagonist is partially immune to it because he's schizophrenic and apparently whatever it does to people's minds doesn't work on his jank-ass brain matter, and of course a whole war develops between survivors who enforce a policy of never looking at the sky and freaks that sometimes just brutally kill them but sometimes capture them and make them look at itIt ends a week later with six more objects impacting the moon and destroying it, and the protagonist eventually figuring that the entire incident from the first impact was "somebody" millions of years ago, god knows how many light years away, that realized what the Moon was and fired some unfathomable cosmic weapon to kill it, and the entire week of apocalyptic horrors between the initial impact and the fatal one was actually insignificant to the earth/universe being SAVED from it, so the whole story was like the opposite of cosmic horror, it was Cosmic Hope
