I guess there is that one important Han/Leya scene, if you care about their relationship. But that's it. I don't even remember why they were there. It's quite shit. The payoff is ruined because Lucas decided that killing is bad. The original was titled "Revenge of The Jedi."Luke teams up with a sibling (not Leia) that Yoda trained on Dagobah before Luke showed up. The idea being that hopefully one of Vaders sons didn't fall to the dark side and was powerful enough to overthrow Vader and the Emperor. Originally the Skywalker sibling was a male Jedi Knight just like Luke. He was laying low and biding his time until the training of Luke was complete. The final battle would've taken place on Coruscant. There would've been a massive space battle over the planet in which the Skywalkers took part; turning the tide in favor of the Alliance with the help of the force. During the invasion Luke and his brother would've confronted the Emperor and Vader. Luke was supposed to turn to the dark side and be brought back to the light by his sibling. This storyline later appeared in the EU except Mara Jade brought Luke back. Lucas realized this treatment made the other Skywalker the real hero of the trilogy and scrapped the entire script. He decided not to film Coruscant because he considered it too expensive. Additionally Lucas became much more of a pacifist; leaning heavily into Buddhism. He decide "Revenge" was too violent and changed the ending so that Vader did the dirty work; calling into question what the fuck Luke even bothered to confront the emperor and vader for anyway if he wasn't going to kill them. Lucas set the final battle on a much cheaper to film Wookie homeworld. He then decided wookies were too violent and went with "Ewoks" instead; once again because Lucas was becoming a Buddhist. To this day Lucas describes himself as a "Methodist Buddhist" and believes that multiple religions are correct. To clean up the "there is another" line from Yoda he turned Leia into Luke's sister.

If we could stay with the Luke-Vader duel and watch it unfold in a singe scene, the drama would and atmosphere would build to greater heights, but George thought it would be better to keep interrupting the ultimate struggle between light and darkness for the fate of the galaxy – the decisive moment to which his saga has been leading – with lighthearted Ewok antics.He used the same technique in all the prequels. The Duel of the Fates keeps cutting away to Jar Jar and Little Annie.

Harrison Ford complained about reprising his role as Han Solo so Lucas decided to replace him with Lando. At the last minute Ford publicly announced his return to Star Wars and so Lucas, wanting to avoid backlash from fans, wrote Ford into the script. At this point Lucas developed a raging hate boner for Star Wars and Star Wars fans. Addressing requests for more Boba Fett Lucas intentionally had him die like a bitch and repeated the same thing with Jango in the prequels. He stuffed Leia in slave girl costume in part to punish Carrie Fischer for doing drugs on set and fucking multiple cast members. Fischer fucked Hamill, Ford, Billy Dee Williams, and several members of the cast and crew. Oddly for a habitual drug user Fischer had a ton of trouble controlling her weight. Lucas gave her an ultimatum: lose enough weight to look good in bikini or lose most of her screen time. It took Fischer six months to loose about 30 pounds. She described it as one of the worst times of her life; one that greatly exacerbated her drug use. With all that taken care of Lucas started filming and we got:>Death Star 2.0 >Williams randomly becoming an Alliance leader and taking over the Falcon>the Emperor showing up out of the blue for no good reason>Luke turning himself in for no reason and refusing to kill the Emperor or Vader >teddy bears killing Stormtroopers with rocks, logs, and sticksOf course that was before the prequels and the disney trilogy. The decline of Star Wars directly traces back to The Return of The Jedi. On the strength of just two movies (A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back) the Star Wars franchise lasted several decades before reaching it's inevitable finale. The looming flop of the Grogu movie will just be one more shoveful of manure on Star Wars grave.
Prequels are better. Original trilogy is overrated, dated and boring.

It's the weakest of the three original films, but a good movie nonetheless. The ewoks aren't really that bad considering how goofy some of the aliens in the 1977 original movie looked.
