This is another stupid term adopted by midwits to give their idiotic opinions more impact, just like when people would use the word ‘objectively’ to describe their subjective tastes.

Most of what you can glean is from director interviews. The movie did a piss poor job of making its points, for me the non linear storytelling was done poorly and distracting but not sure if that's a common reason for it.

Idk how to explain it but the movie felt very heavy handing with a message but at the same time so vague I wasn't sure what was going on. The ar-15 or whatever above the house was so on the nose and I'm assuming the kids are the 'weapons'? I'm was hoping there's more than that...
>>214830765
>the non linear storytelling was done poorly and distracting
Having two of the character stories go nowhere, killing both characters at the end was such a waste of time.

When you don't know the answer, but want to feel like you're smart, just act smug. That faggot doesn't know why the floating gun was in that dream sequence either.
>>
>>214830433
It is explained. Thanos says the kids "were weaponized like bullets" and "traveled like rifle shots" that's how he was able to find on the map that they all ran to that kids house.
>>
>>214830156
Witches bad
>>
>>214831051
It also didn't seem like the changing vantage points really added anything until the boy (Alex?) so much of it just felt redundant and drawn out.
>>
The only time media literacy needs to be mentioned in discussions about mainstream television or film on the internet is to explain that Tony 100% dies at the end of The Sopranos and the show did everything short of plainly spelling it out. Maybe explaining the ending of LOST too but I think most of the people who were confused about that just didn't watch the last two seasons before checking back in on the finale.

Other than that I can't think of anything that it would actually apply to.
>>
Jordan Peele wanted to acquire the rights to direct Weapons, with plans to turn the family attacked by the witch Black and create another film that would play into race baiting
>>
>>214830765
where did the transsexuality come in? i thought it was witches = bad plain cut.

zach's been sober for a long time and trevor died from alcoholism, but the alcoholism was tied to a single character arc so it's not the overarching message of the movie.
>>
>>214830156
The takeaway that I got is that some people in our lives are like parasites. There are so many references to parasites throught the film and the way Gladys feeds off her victims is very parasitic.
Someone brought up the alcoholism angle and in an interview Creggor talked about how his father was a terrible alcoholic. He probably thought of his alcholic father like a parasite to his family.
>>
Cregger was inspired by being freaked out by narutards in college.
>>
>>214830590
He said in an interview that the movie was basically saved by the actress who played Gladys.
>>
>>214831806
that's ridiculous. Barbarian did well, Weapons did better, make another new original detatched from the rest. It's bad enough he's doing Resident Evil. it'll prob be good but I really think he needs to keep making originals for the sake of his legacy if nothing else. Oh well.

You have to remember that the whole thing is a modern American fairy tale. The takeaway of Weapons is that society is built to exploit children, with authority figures either being helpless in the face of social parasites or mind controlled thralls who do the bidding of said parasites.

The entire town is an MKULTRA experiment run by the deep state. Gladys wears USA colors and dresses like a clown for a reason, she's a black magic sorceress who has glowie handlers we never get to see. Gladys got away with things for as long as she did because in exchange for keeping things local and not overstepping her boundaries (and teaching the elite how to harvest children), the government would use the townspeople as test subjects to observe the effects and limits of mass social conditioning. The adults were helpless to stop Gladys sooner because of a combination of her magical influence and the compounding trauma and social stresses from their daily modern lives causing them to dissociate.

>some of the adults wear mickey mouse shirts (Disney has not only made wartime propaganda, but certain icons and names have allegedly become mind control trigger words within the military)
>the bell having a delta symbol with 3 on it
>the biblical symbolism behind the whale references (the Leviathan was thought to be a giant whale)
>Gladys harvesting children for life force = adrenochrome parallels
>the kid ends up going to "another aunt"
>the promo posters state that the kids never returned + contradictions that pop up if you take the narrator at her word

Aunt Gladys is obviously a metaphor for nu-communism.

An old forgotten thing that makes its way into communities now adays and steals kids away from their parents (to become troons). Makes formerly reasonable people violent frothing psychopaths willing to do whatever it commands.

>>
i don't understand what you're bitching about. it was a good movie
>>
>>214830156
It's about people being weaponized. It's not a message, theme is more accurate. You can see it in several aspects of the movie, like how Josh Brolin accuses the teacher of being responsible for the kid's disappearance(having been weaponized by the kid's disappearance, he turns into a weapon against her) down to the characters that the witch controls. It's about a cause and effect chain that makes people turn against each other. It's not exactly a metaphor, but it has applicability to real life and how some situations can cause people to turn against each other. The political climate of the past 10 years seems to me like an inspiration for it.
>>214830604
Not every movie, but with a lot of them it's obvious some thought was put into it, especially one like this where it's a writer/director making it and there's more of a vision there.

The fact that “death of the author” exists means that there is no such thing as media literacy in the woke sense. Simple as.

Have you fucks ever met anyone claiming media literacy that actually WAS literate? I saw some fucks who were the usual non stop leftypol screaming shitters who had no idea about pynchon's thing for kekolding in his movies and thought that was hollywood.
