I used to ride without a helmet til I saw my friend get put into the hospital by a rock that some cars tire kicked up. People are stupid.

Motorbikes are mechanically designed to remain upright and balanced while moving in a straight line, and the front wheel is constantly correcting itself to remain straight, which causes these tiny little correctional "wobbles" back and forth constantly, which are usually unnoticeable when you're riding. The faster you go, the more intense these wobbles become, and eventually if you're going too fast, or you have wheel alignment issues, or poor control over your steering, or some combination of other factors, the wobbling will reach a max point where its basically wobbling back and forth so hard that the handlebars are slapping against the fuel tank in a state of constantly trying to self correct, which is why its also sometimes referred to as a "tank slapper". Technically, as long as you know how to correctly slow down in that situation by rolling off the throttle and slowly applying your back brakes without touching your front brakes whatsoever, and you're moving in a straight line, you should be able to get out of it safely, but its so panic inducing that it almost always results in a crash, and because the main cause of them is too much speed its usually a fatal crash or close to it.
