The plot had a beginning, a middle, and and ending; and it fit together so well because it was a complete story.The problem with your version is that they wanted to keep it going for multiple seasons. So they took away the end; which completely screwed up the overall flow and thematic continuity. It barely feels like the same show where it starts off with him giving bread crumbs to a news reporter while simultaneously holding power over her, to him climbing the ladder to become VP to President. The character dynamics also feel inconsistent, especially with him and his wife. I'm only on S4, but the sudden fall out because some book author wrote a few words of how they're "equals" seems silly.
