in his mind he craved fame and to be loved, but he rejected it when confronted with it in reality. many of his bandmates talk about how seriously he took himself despite always pretending he didn't care, which was apparent in the autism he poured into his music and how the drum sound design had to be perfect. he simultaneously felt as though he was better than the average person, yet had a deep self loathing issue. his empathy was so profound that courtney love tells a story about a time she merely thought about cheating on him, like she had decided to fly to london and do it for sure, and how he must have sensed it in her somehow because it depressed him so deeply that it led him to one of his most serious suicide attempts. she called an ambulance and they revived him, but the incident left her bewildered and wondering if he was some sort of mind reader. she mentions it in ' montage of heck '. he seemed so cold and mean in several interviews, and it was partly due to drugs making him irritable, but definitely partly due to him feeling too much and too deeply, he may have learned that others just hurt you. so many times he alludes to his enjoyment of solitary hobbies, a voracious reader who used a lot of references to books and poetry in his songs. he hated being ridiculed, krist says that he remembers that the most about him in ' montage of heck'. he absolutely could not stand ridicule whatsoever, and it was the basis for his overall character and attitude about things. there's even a scene where he reads through courtney's girl magazines to see what babes think about him. this dude was alone in the truest sense
