When I saw this for the first time to give it a kino-analysis, I found it mostly just boring & gay. When I watched it later with some friends, I still found it boring & gay. I just rewatched this movie for a third time, after at least a decade and change, with my bitch... It's still just kind of boring & gay. I'm with you OP. What those Fox producers did to the music is awful. I implore each of you to listen to the original stage version. It still has Tim Curry and Meatloaf plays both Eddie and Dr. Scott. Main difference is the music had a 50's rock esthetic that the movie toned way done and cut short.

Going to shows like this when I was younger was enjoyable for a time, but it really blackpilled me against creepo cultures that spring up around shit like this. Like you have to be a special kind of bereft, tryhard sociopath to actually tolerate or befriend the kinds of people that do this sort of thing regularly.

And of course in the case of RHPS, it was yet another one of those things that was JUST "dark" enough to be somewhat adjacent to the goth subculture, so it was one of the many greasy little portals that sexpesty nerds would use to try and get with goth chicks/guys, and before you know it they're trying to recruit you to their shitty Vampire: The Masquerade game nights (where everyone is obnoxious and obese, but hey, VAMPIRES, that's GOTH, right?) or gay little anime BDSM impromptus, or etc.
