Best of series but underperformed at box office which caused the further 90s series to mostly stop experimenting and go back to Ghidorah/Mothra/MG rather than create new.

Critics hated it and audiences didn't show up for it, but my god, it's kino. Brad Pitt's best performance and despite its length its very rewatchable. Best film the of the 2020's so far.

WTF is the appeal of that movie? I genuinely want to know. I was bored as fuck watching it when I was 10 and barely remember it outside of the turtle scene. Isn't even as comfy as other happy Madison films.

Its ok. Watching Charlie Day try-hard to act is a little painful. The chick is a charisma vaccum. Jodie and the wrestler guy are decent. Black guy is the same as that black guy always is.

Jovovich ruins everything she is in. Her career had to end after the first Resident Evil movie (only acceptable because she still looks so good at that time, bad movie)

As a kid return to oz was really scary, particularly the scene with the witch who takes off and changes her head. I went back and rewatched it not long ago and ironically now that im in my 30s i found the early parts of the film really upsetting, with its portrayal of a family falling apart amid rural poverty and trying to care for a sick, possibly autistic, child who isn't getting better, and the peril the kid is put in by quack doctors. Funny how perceptions change over time. That didnt bother me at all as a kid.
>>
>>214836348
now...have you read the books?
>>
>>214834744
I like Return to Oz better than Wizard of Oz, dark 80s kids fantasies are my favorite. Labyrinth is better imho, but Return to Oz is still really good.

This is one of my favorite movies, it has such a unique feel to it, very foreboding and surreal. I love Tick-tock and Jack Pumpkinhead. The Wheelers and the bitch who swaps out heads were so scary as a kid. Underappreciated film, I rarely meet people who’ve seen it.
>>
>>214834947
It was very foolish to have the title card for the third act say "the truth" instead of just having it be like roshomon then have a 4th act of the actual duel be "the truth"

I also thought they should have better explained whether there was collusion between the mother in law and the rapist causing her to take all of the servants and guards out of the castle on the very same day he shows up to rape her.

But other than those issues I absolutely loved it. All the performances were great, good production design, and Driver's best movie imo. I think people will remember this movie well and even though Disney just dumped it into theaters with no marketing after getting it in the Fox deal so very few people saw it in theaters, I think it will be well known.

Return to Oz is great, but Wizard of Oz is a genuine classic.

Christ was killed by Romans, probably for disturbing the peace when he staged a demonstration in the temple during passover week. If Jews killed him he would have been stoned to death, not crucified, which was a distinctly Roman form of punishment.

Pontius Pilate, the governor of Judea and the man who facilitated Christ’s crucifixion would be removed a few years later from office thanks to a local desert Karen writing a very angry and nasty letter to Rome about Pilates excessive use of force.

So yeah, they definitely played ball with these people. Worst case scenario is the desert dwellers would revolt, the local Roman’s might get butchered, and Caesar spends a shit load of resources marching his legions into Judea (again). They tried to avoid it as best they could, it was a very frustrating relationship for the Romans.

The music industry is still all powerful and evil. The only difference between now and then is that the very simple and tangible metrics of success (album sales, concert sales) have dissipated to a thousand pissant platforms so the corpos just turned more insidious and the music or making new nepo babies into stars is hardly secondary compared to legalese bullshit over rights of 40 year old defunct bands.

>>
>>214846049
I said plenty. You don't want to accept it.
Its mid. Middling. Its serviceable. I've never rewatched it. It's better than the captain america movies and black panther. It falls short of the better movies. Iron man and the first avengers movie are better.
I don't consider any capehsit to be high quality praise worthy movies. They are all kinda mediocre, and it lands fairly in the middle of the pack of "oh wow a superhero" movie.
If you think general consensus of it is any better, I think you might be trying to confirm your own bias. I've never even had or witnessed a discussion about it besides people crying about the snyderverse dying here on /tv/.
>>
>>214846170
i agree with most of your points!
now for my reasoning as to why its the best capeshit movie
>the action is denser and more intense than the best marvel movies objectively(best marvel action was the iron man movies only, captain america 2 action is not good)
>the score is heavy too whereas most capeshit scores are recycling most of the same whimsical beats
>the painterly filmic qualities can seem pretentious but why do no other capeshits try to be pretentious or serious at all?
it is sincere and that is why i admire it
it reminds me of the innocence i used to have as a young white american before i learned it was all a lie
it shamelessly makes mistakes in service of this sincerity and i and many others honor it for this like its water in a desert of quirk chungus irony quips and wokeness
im not indian
im not a christ cuck
im not an incel
man of steel is the best capeshit movie

My only gripe is that for an R-rated movie about women being exploited in a brothel it has zero actual nudity or sex in it.

I get that Snyder's whole thing was sympathizing with the characters and if he'd gone gone full coomer it would just be a titty movie instead of an ironic subversion of titty movies. But the thing is, the self-aware nature of the film didn't buy any sympathy from critics and audiences were just looking for a good time and not a guilt trip about the male gaze so his lofty intentions didn't pan out either way. Would have been better off being unironic and just making softcore porn out of it.
