I prefer this poster. If there's any film that needs to be "rediscovered" or whatever you want to call it, this is it. Australia's film industry is slim pickins as it is. This movie rocks and you faggots need to watch it.

I finally watched this and realised how stupid you cunts are the film is just a commentary on Australian culture you poofters made out like it was some masterclass psychological horror you low IQ fucks are actually media illiterate
>>
>>214835707
Australian 'culture' IS a masterclass in psychological horror you dumb cunt. Fucker can't see the fire for the flames. Dog cunt.
>>
>>214835707
>are the film is just a commentary on Australian culture
Not that I'm an Aussie to confirm but that was pretty much my interpretation of it. I recall when we watched it my Australian friend commented on how people who live in the outback tend to be insane.
Great fucking movie though. You can palpably feel how the protagonist slowly goes down the rabbithole.
>>
>>214835781
This isn't Australian culture though and the book and film were criticised and lambasted in Australia because it's just some leftist poofter having a sook about life in the bush

The worst part of this movie is finding out an Aussie didn't actually direct it, some fuckin' Canadian did. Aussie's truly have no culture.

any similar films to this

>>
>>214836063
>Nooo you can't just drink and enjoy life in the bush you need to "better yourself" and go to the city
Yeah this was clearly another leftist having a whinge and yet people here are so fucking stupid they don't even get that

Is Mad Max more accurate? What about Road Games or BMX Bandits? Crocodile Dundee? No one knew anything about Australians until Mad Max.

Sounds like a you problem. You're the one who had this grandiose expectation. It's just a fun drinking movie. Just have a beer and relax you fucking nerd
>>
>>214836258
Seems that way
>>214836318
My expectation was that it was a psychological thriller sense that is all that is ever talked about it here but that's not the theme of the movie the actual theme that /tv/ is too stupid to pick up is about some homo cunts politics
>>
>>214836353
Since that is all*

>"People ran screaming from the theatre, saying 'That's not us,'" recalls Jack Thompson, one of the actors. (He plays Dick, who asks of Grant: "What's the matter with him? He'd rather talk to a woman than drink?")

Why was there a plot with gay sex off-screen? All the rednecks in Australia can fuck you?
>>

>This is no doubt due to the bitter taste that its depiction of Australian life has left in the mouths of many of its viewers, a distaste that dates back to an early screening of the film, when a member of the audience stood up in the theatre and shouted ‘That’s not us!’ only to be rebuked by actor Jack Thompson: ‘Sit down, mate. It is us.’ This exchange, and its conflict over the identification of the film’s content with some form of Australian identity (‘us’), is typical of the ambivalent reception of the film and its place within the wider, unresolved matter of Australia’s self-image in respect to its place in the world and the national character it presents on the global stage. The formulation ‘that’s not us; that is us’ describes the tension at work in this self-image, which depends on an identification with a positive sense of national selfhood and the simultaneous expulsion of the elements that cannot be organised and incorporated into that image. The horror that Wake in Fright has provoked in its Australian audience hinges on this moment of identification and rejection (what might be called, in a more theoretical language, abjection) by summoning up some of the most unpleasant facets of the Australian national character as it presents itself in the clichés of mateship, pub culture, the fair go, and so on, and insists that these undesired elements must be recognised as aspects of Australian culture as a whole.

It was rediscovered in 2009/2010 when the first restoration did festival rounds and was released on DVD/BD.

That's exactly what I was saying the entire thing is a commentary on Australian culture from some leftist poofter who doesn't like it which was clear to Australians when this came out but went right over the smooth brains of the media illiterate homos here on /tv/
>>
>>214835613
We used to make great movies.
It's sad how much our government has fucked every industry here.

t. Bruce.
>>
>>214837098
This movie was panned when it came out because it is a shit movie you fucking lying cunt the only people who liked it were critics because they understood the film was just an Anti-Australian rant
>>
>>214836603
You sound like those cunts that couldn't watch Parasite for what it was - a really great thriller.
Instead, picking it apart over its political commentary.

Sad.

>You can't ignore the theme and message of the film the whole reason it exists because you're not retarded enough
Thanks
