There are real people on this board, and soon ITT, who genuinely do not understand the appeal of seeing a movie. Like, their tard brain can't comprehend it. They will point to camrips or make fun of everyone who doesn't wait for a torrent, it's a purely "logical" calculation in their heads that every single person who goes to the Kinoplex is being swindled and is a normie somehow because they're not torrenting. It also applies to owning physical media. They don't get it. I see this take so often on /tv/. They don't understand why you would ever own a Blu-ray over an .mkv file on an SSD, you'll simply explain that the movie experience is fun or that seeing it on a big screen is cool or that you just like having the disc on your shelf :))) and they'll say
>No argument lmao
Something as human as watching a goddamn movie and liking that purely on an emotional basis triggers the aspie. Have you noticed this phenomenon? If a old film is showing that I've already seen in a local theater, often times I'll go see it! Despite losing $10! How is it hard to understand this
>>
>>214841670
I stopped enjoying movie theaters because of the price of tickets, commercials at the beginning, and being surrounded by people who might annoy me. It can be either a wonderful experience and best way to watch the movie, or possibly the worst way to watch a movie, depending on the people around you also in that theater.
And that isn't even getting into snacks and their prices, along with working around your schedule to see the movie.
>>

1. I don't wanna pay something I can get for free
2. I don't wanna go out and sit in a dark room with a bunch of faggots
3. Theaters are often loud as fuck, pretty sure I damaged my eardrums when I watched Biutiful back in 2010 cause that shit made my ears ring
3. I like to eat when I watch movies
4. I like to be naked and touch my dick when I watch movies
5. I like being able to pause at any time
6. I just don't care about Big Fucking Screen that much, I'm too old and jaded to be excited for movies-as-events

2. You're the faggot.

5. You shouldn't be allowed to pause movies
6. Of course you're a boomer

For me what ruins it isn't the ads, its the upcoming film trailers that coincidentally seem to always play ugly disgusting nigger rap music. I literally put my fingers in my ears and hear people muttering around me giving me ugly looks

The second reason is the $10 drinks that are like $2 at 7/11

One of the last movies I saw in a theater was one of the early transformers movies (prob the second one) and I literally could not follow any of the action on the screen to the point I ended up falling asleep.
Aside from the content, it’s become a subpar way to experience a movie in just about every way imaginable.
I am much more comfortable in my home where I can pause and play when I want.

Even if the screen and sound system are properly adjusted (which I'll say it's 75% chance they are), paying $20 for the communal experience pales in comparison to how much picrel pisses me off.

you have to understand that the people you are talking about are sub-100 IQs while believing they are actual genius level. it's a waste of your energy to engage with them.
in my experience some movies are enhanced by the big screen simply because of the big screen and the audio design. unless you drop tens of thousands of dollars, you can't replicate the theatre sound system at home. DUNC one was cool but since i saw it on my laptop, it wasn't really as engaging. DUNC 2 i saw in theatres and i didnt even get up to piss, i was pretty awestruck by some scenes. and one of my most vivid theatre memories was the opening scene of star wars episode 3 - i was 11, and we were staying in jersey to watch my cousin's vassar graduation. the theatre was in the ghetto, place had metal detectors before theatre shootings were a thing lol. but that opening scene and that place are forever etched in my brain because of the fucking audio.
there's a loud vocal minority of friendless misanthropes here who have such a massive inferiority complex they have to jerk each other's hatred of other people off to keep their fragile egos intact.
>>
>>214841670
I’m 40.

I used to go to the theater almost every week.

A movie ticket was 5-8 dollars for new movies and like .75 cents for movies that were ending their run.

My neighborhood was mostly white so the people in the theater with me weren’t disruptive.

The movies were actually good back then and worth seeing.

None of this is true anymore.

Now all the movies have forced DEI and the theaters are filled with dangerous and disruptive brown people.

Go woke go broke.

where do you fucks live where you can't find one theater you like? if you're in a city you're not looking hard enough for the cool ones and if you're in a small town, in the US anyway, the local theaters are always quaint and nice to visit. what reality are you living in
>>
>>214841670
Because I can enjoy a movie at home and usually cheaper. I can pause the movie if I have to go use the bathroom, someone hasn't pissed all over the seat (I have to sit down to pee) and I can make food. Then come back and put the movie on. If I have a girl over, we can have sex without having to take the time to drive home where she might change her mind.

On top of that, there just are not very many movies I want to see anymore.
>>
>>214842543
>where do you fucks live where you can't find one theater you like?
Anywhere but that's not really the point.
I don't want to hear crumpling plastic or chewing or slurping air or loud whispers, or see bright phone screens or deal with the audience overreacting to specific scenes.
It's just a shitty experience most of the time, and that's a best case scenario really.

I've always loved movie theaters. There's one right down the street. My girlfriend won't go with me though because she says it's "boring".

It just dawned on me that "Movie theaters are boring" is girl code for "I can't scroll on my phone during the whole fucking movie and ask you inane questions about what I just missed unless I'm at home."

For me, I feel stupid about going to the movies alone because it reminds me that I'm alone and how I've always wanted to take a girl on a date there and I probably never will, and there's just nothing really worth going to the movies for anymore even if I did manage to get a girl to go with me.

movie theater in my town is closing down in two days, will have to drive 20min to get to a theater now. admittedly, it was often pretty empty there and it was way too big for how many people went (there were like 16 screens), really our town should have like 2-3 screens.

The problem is the business model doesn't work, the studios need to make it where it's possible to run a boutique theater.

Watching a movie in movie theatre is the best way to watch a movie, when it is not ruined by other people.
My local theatre has actually been empty with the exception of me and my kids, amd I recently got to see Jaws on the big screen which was nice and I'm glad I was able to.

This always annoys me. I always bring earplugs these days. Can't figure out if it's general Hollywood retardation like all the dark scenes where you can't see shit or they do it to drown out retards talking during the film
>>
>>214841670
My biggest issue is the ads at the start. If a film says it starts at 2:30pm, it should fucking start then. Sometimes the ads will make it start at 3:15. Other times they'll just rush it and it starts closer to 2:35. So If I try to wait out the ads, I could end up missing a large chunk of the film. But then if I get there by the listed time, I could spend almost half an hour still waiting for the fucking thing. And my god the movies they pick too. I do not give a shit about 28 Years Later if I am watching a fucking comedy. Why would you show me a film that isn't by the producers of the one I am watching, let alone the correct genre. Don't get me started on the Mission Impossible one playing for every movie screening for like a full fucking year.

To be fair, Transformers 2 was really ahead of the curve on shitty CGI slop. Half the shots are obviously structured to minimize the amount of work that needed to be done and the other half are just full on CGI sludge. They really gave up on the final fight specifically.

I was always a massive autismo, but I had no problem going to the movie theatre alone

Ironically it Drive I went to see at some small cinema, and when the clerk saw that I was alone he made an extremely disgusted face at me. It was enough for me not to go to the movies alone again for years
Then the exact same thing happened with another Refn movie, I went to see Neon demon alone, and the clerk made the same exact face

I would agree with you ten years ago. Even five years ago

Now a 55 inch chinese tv and a 5.1 audio setup is chump change. The visuals look the same, audio is the same, I can paise it to take a shit, I can eat my own food, no exit sign in the corner of my eye, dont have to watch at a weird angle because all middle seats were sold, no fat guy munching and breathing heavily, no urban crowd hooting and hollering, no woman on her cellphone in front of you etc
And now movies take two weeks to come out on streaming, dont even need camrips, I get 4k HDR Dolby Vision wuality

Watching movies at home is just way more enjoyable. There's nobody around being annoying and distracting you so it's easier to get immersed, you can get more comfortable, pause to go to the bathroom, not have to pay out the ass for food and drinks...It's such a significantly better experience. going to the theater is the best thing ever. I have autism and seeing people shifting around and hearing them whisper and shit just rips me right out of the movie. I can't stand it. the "magic" of the theater wore off for me. like, i understand the general appeal, but i just cant be bothered anymore.
im more comfortable at home
i have subtitles and can pause/rewind at home
movies are needlessly expensive
food/snacks at home is better too
i can watch it whenever i want, instead of being stuck on their showtimes
i just dont feel the draw to see it immediately when i can just see it more comfortably and for free later.

as for physical media, i can understand the desire to own a nice collection, and i collect my own things, but i havent bought a movie in nearly 20 years. load up a website and watch the movie i want, zero problems.

so i DO understand the draw and desire. but do YOU understand why other people simply dont give a shit or share in your desires?

It has always just been about seeing the movie for me. Used to be if you missed the cinema run it would be a whole fucking year before you could rent it which was a pretty good motivator. Now movies are streaming within a month. If something came out that I just had to see ASAP I would pay for a ticket but there hasn't been a movie I have been that excited about for years.
