This intrigued me so much as a kid. I think it's brilliant that they get so specific. If they said, "Scariest movie ever!" that would be less scary because it's so broad and even generic. But the focus on the last 30 minutes? Intriguing and ominous.

Both the poster and vhs cover for this had me massively intrigued as a kid, long before I had any clue who David Cronenberg was.

This is an obscure one. I only saw it a few times at shops as a kid. It's still the only time I have seen a Double VHS box.

I have never been able to find a reference or photograph to this, but there was a clamshell VHS release of this I used to see at the video store, where the eyeball on the front was sculpted soft plastic and raised up. I used to just like looking at it at the video store.

>>214846797
It's a double wide VHS clamshell. Hellraiser 2 was the only one I SPECIFICALLY remember, but I have vague memories of some other mini-series style shit coming in them too.

Never got to rent it, but assume the second tape is just Part 1.

Here is another one I used to see a lot (and never rented). All the novelty boxes used to fascinate me. I remember one that had a really shitty head on a spring thing and for awhile there were a bunch with lenticular prints. I can't recall the tape, but it was a very early kids film a lenticular hologram (so 3D and image changed when you tilted the cover).

Another thing that used to make me want to rent movies was the content warning under the age rating. The following always made me perk up
>Occasional Graphic Violence
>High Level Sex Scenes
>Assaultive Language

The one for Robocop 2 was really rare.
>>
Luckily for me, I would find Tinto Brass' whole filmography on the hub 20 years later. This stuff is prime pervert material, and I don't even speak Italian. It's basically the sexual fantasies I had before going to sleep as a tween

I thought this movie was gonna be metal as fuck and spent literal years trying to rent it because I was a snot nosed kid so they wouldn't let me rent it and my parents wouldn't get it for me.

When I finally did get it it sucked, less production value than a goosebumps episode.
>>
>>214846642
Lol I remember this one, too. As an adult I am more interested in it as it is a Ken Russell film I've never seen.
>>
>>214847239
Further; Most films had the common and standard content warnigs (i.e. medium level violence, occasional coarse langaue, high level sex scenes and so on). Rare content warnings (like Occasional Graphic Violence) got my interest, but even rarer uncommon useage was an even bigger sell. "Adult Themes" was a standard content warning on tons of PG and M rated films. Basically
>Okay for kids, but some of the subject matter may skew adult
When Fight Club came out, it didn't have ANY warnings for sex, violence or language. Just a warning for Adult Themes, the only time I ever saw on, a, well, adult film. It immediately grabbed my interest.

>This is no bedtime story
That tagline intrigued me as a kid. Now I realize that it's reaction to Pretty Woman being a "fairy tale". When I was a kid it looked very dark ominous.

Movie isn't really that dark and ominous, however. It's actually kinda campy and doesn't seem like gritty realism.

By the way, is this a coomer thread or a scary thread?

There's a cover that simply has a couple having missionary sex. It doesn't show anything, it's just naked man laying on top of a naked woman, looks a bit like a romance novel cover without clothing. I'm trying to remember the name of it. I thought it was "Sorceress" but I didn't find it on google. The title likely relates to women plus evil magic based on how I thought I remembered the name.

>Sister, Sister is a 1987 American Southern Gothic psychological horror film directed and co-written by Bill Condon in his directorial debut, and starring Eric Stoltz, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Judith Ivey. It follows two sisters operating an inn in the Louisiana bayou, whose dark secrets come to light after the arrival of a male guest.

The gaunt, black silhouettes against the preternaturally orange dusk. It was a haunted landscape, haunted by something primeval and atmospheric. A presence without a face, pervading the landscape. You can feel how cold it is.

Those three figures. There's something odd about them. They're children, yet something else. They looked distorted to me. STRETCHED out to an unnatural degree. Like a walking projection from carnival mirrors. You could imagine limps and necks and faces that look ostensibly human, but distorted to a demented degree, a cruel mockery.

It casts a spell, this poster. We true connoisseurs of dread know that in the right dearth of light, dusk can be a lot more unsettling than night. Maybe it's because as the last warm and safe beams of the sun fade at last, you're witnessing something dying. Day. The death of safety and the rise of something that does not rise, but instead pervades the atmosphere. The enchanting moon has yet to come out and the stars in the firmament have not woken, so in this witching hour between day and night, the light is a dying friend, and darkness is an enemy at the door, its presence inevitable. All the horrors of the night, real or imagined, have yet to show their face, and thus you only can dread. Evening is also colder than night, because it is cool, a shivering briskness still so close to warmth you can remember, not so cold you're acclimated. So even through your costume, your arms grow goosebumps and you shiver. It's cool where these three are, and it's OUTSIDE. The great outdoors has no safety, and they may only be a small selection of the monsters it has to offer. Yet there are no houses in the background of this poster. Where can you flee?

Another time, when I was 4 or 5, I was at McDonalds with my grandparents. After we ate my grandpa gave me some money to go get an ice cream; big kid stuff, ordering all by myself. When it was my turn an obese woman behind me in line pushed me up against the counter with her gut and just started saying her order. I had no clue what the fuck was happening so I just squeezed out and went back to my grandparents with no ice cream.

I feel because the posters are decided by managers now
Like most of the MCU posters, it's clear that managers fight for shit like "10% bigger headshot"
I know it's nothing new, Drew Struzan had issues where actors complained about how they were presented in the poster, but I feel it has gotten worse since the 2010s
