Brother 1 and 2 are great movies. Danila is basically the Russian version of a "literally me" Gosling character, but without the autism. Are there any similar movies from other countries? A protagonist dealing with the criminal underworld and a cast of kooky characters is obviously a really common theme, but off the top of my head I can't think of any such movies where the main character retains the cheerfulness and good humour found in Danila while still being a fairly upstanding person living by a moral code. Gosling is an autismo in Drive, Travis Bickle is a schizoid, Gylenhall is a sociopath in Nightcrawler, and Michael Douglas in Falling Down is unhinged. Nicholas Cage sort of fits the bill in Bad Lieutenant: New Orleans. Maybe Ed Norton in The 25th Hour comes the closest.
