His plan succeeded in that he genuinely improved the protagonist's musical ability through sheer pressure and abuse so any criticisms of his teaching techniques are rendered mostly moot.

Most musicians who make it are people who are creative. It doesn't necessarily mean you have to be discipline who adheres to a strict routine

That's what this movie gets wrong. Fletcher is an abusive sadistic piece of shit that is pissed about his own inability to create music so he has to take it out on college kids. And Andrew was one of many who he had fallen victim too.
