I'm watching ghost in the shell on criterion. why is this guy being so autistic about his weirdo bespoke eyetalian autorevolver?
>>214855702Old-fashion detective guy?
>>214855709it's not even a normal revolver, it's a weird "semi auto" revolver that has a mechanism similar to a semi auto handgun
>>214855702doesn't jam, low bore axis for better recoil on his unaugmented physiology, six rounds forces a priority on shot placement and tactical thinking rather than spray and pray which simultaneously biases the user to a conservative nuanced approach to operations.all of this being character building giving insight into Togusa's intelligence and sophistication, as well as competence as a marksman.oh and it's kino as fuck
>>214855702In case you haven't noticed characterization isn't exactly the best part of the writing for Ghost in the Shell. Most characters have one or two traits and thats it. In this case his revolver is one of his defining characteristics.
it just looks really cool
He actually has a family.
>>214855870>doesn't jam,it does jam. it's not a revolver, it's an autistic auto revolver with a mechanism similar to an autoloading pistol
>>214856078It uses a recoil system to rotate the cylinder and cock the hammer but has a double action trigger on a dry pull, it can fail to cycle but it won't jam.
>>214856078What makes an automatic jam is 90% failure to feed or eject, neither of which being an issue for a revolver even an automatic one
>>214856200>it can fail to cyclesame thing>>214856220if it doesn't cycle it wont fire
>>214855702it's just gun otaku shit projected onto characters who should know better. nerds love spec sheets and stats and the feeling of superiority that knowing about obscure (at the time) weapons gives. SAC sucks
It's the closest thing to an old-fashioned gun in this world, like he is the closest thing to a normal human. They literally explain it in the movie, lol. He is the old-fashioned almost pure-human detective that complements the team next to the other weirdos.
>>214855702He's the only one on the team that was a cop and wants to keep a semblance of his blue boner.
The major's big ass. But seriously how are you finding SAC so far? 2026 better not let us down after the new show trailer.
>>214855702You reminded me I made my own replica of this gun like 8 years ago on 3D printer with some paint and some metal weights to give it some heft. eventually broke it from spinning and lock it too much. never fixed it
>>214856916>It's the closest thing to an old-fashioned gun in this worldthe design isn't any meaningfully older than the rotating bolt action in their seburo pistols, if that was the intent there are plenty of other 357 revolvers with older designs that would've had comparable performance. it's because the autorevolver was brand new and exotic.
>>214857098looks more like vash the stampede's gun
>>214857098Real ones go for 10k-25k USD now.
>>214857219shh. but yes. they are similar enough from the front
Because it's cool when revolvers show up in scifi. My favorite example is the .454 Casull in Alien Nation.
>>214857184No, the whole point is that something that looks futuristic for us and comes from our world is nostalgic for them which is intended to increase the perceived gap between their world and ours.
>>214855702>can't get through a 90 minute film without having to run to the internet to blog about their retardation
>>214855870it also complements the team, as the major saysoverspecialize, and you in breed weakness
Watched the original GITS in a cinema for the anniversary a few months back. I tend to warn people about the slow pacing of the money and so on but there I realized that I really is a cinema experience and that the pacing isn't that much of an issue when watched on a big screen where the scenes and wide shots have another impact on you. I went there with a friend how hasn't watched anime beyond some One Piece and Naruto and he loved it.
>>214856876I was watching the 1995 film
>>214856916in the film he still has brain implants and the revolver he says he's using, if it's like the irl revolver, malfunctions around as often as a semi auto would
>>214857090criterion only has the 1995 film and the 2008 remake and maybe the shitty live action. I wasn't watching SAC
>>214857098why not just buy a chiappa rhino?
>>214857540>in the film he still has brain implantsExactly. He and the gun are the closest thing that there are in this world to us, notice the closest thing, i.e. the next best thing, which means even he is in the end something that doesn't exist among us.
>>214857248chiappa rhinos look like the anime version
>>21485731083 min>>214857257it's not even a revolver it's a weird auto revolver. he also has like the fish gun in the film
>>214857447I could see that, same with akira
>>214857256it was never a very good gun anyway, off by 3 fets only 10 yarz away
*checks imfdb*Umm akshually mateba made more conventional revolvers too and that's what he uses, not the semi-auto.The answer is because it looks cool and fits his vibe mostly, if it was in 454 or something you could maybe make the argument that against augmented people you needed more stopping power but even then the guy with the uzi seems to suggest there is plenty powerful 9mm available.
>>214857447For me Innocence was a lot more interesting of an experience in a theater for that reason too.
>>214857688i've read the description of the mateba and an auto-revolver, and i still don't understand how it's different from a normal revolverthen again, i've only shot a revolver a handful of times
>>214857688in the 1995 film its a regular double-action revolver, just one that fires from the bottom position
>>214855702on Criterion? Why is anime on Criterion?
Fucking idiot noguns itt don’t know that he’s using a 2006M and not a Unica 6 (the Autorevolver) which didn’t come out until 1997, 2 years after the release of the movie.
>>214857738It uses the recoil to rotate the cylinder and cock the hammer, as opposed to single-action revolvers where you have to do that manually and double-action revolvers where pulling the trigger does that. The point is to make the trigger pull lighter compared to double action since it doesn't have to also actuate those parts.>>214857777OP posted SAC so it's a reasonable mistake to make.
>>214857763because it's an exemplary film
>>214857738i think the mateba slides back when you fire and in doing so the hammer is all the way back giving you a nice short trigger pull for subsequent shots?
>>214857798is that deckard's gun?
>>214857090Why is gold eye purple hair so sexo
>>214857722even if it's one of the less autistic models it's still weird he got a small volume fancy eyetalian revolver and that he keeps talking about it by name>>214857738normal revolvers don't use recoil to do anything, pulling the trigger or pulling back the hammer turns the cylinder and cocks and drops the hammer. in the mateba the top half of the gun is on like a slide and the recoil pushes the top half of the gun back and that energy and movement cocks the hammer and turns the cylinder. it's like the mechanism from a 1911 or a glock
>>214857745I guess they made other models, but it's still weird he's mentioning a fancy eyetalian gun by name over and over >>214857763criterion is literally just japanese films, michael mann, the crow and then a bunch of films about black trannies who have aids and smoke crack. Like godzilla vs mothra is on there
>>214857777the patent for the auto revolver dates back to 1987 and the film was 1995 and the comic was 1989 or something so I wouldn't be shocked if they were using the patent or some press piece they read.
>>214857832Larger is Deckard's, smaller is K's
>>214857798deckerd never goes on some autistic speech about his gun
>>214857986Welcome to otaku media, the original gits manga is like 2/3rds autistic speeches.
>>214857971i thought the lil one looked like the noisy cricket, but it clearly wasn't. i would never have recognized k's gun
>the GitS comic book contains a 3 page lesbian gang bang sequence because the writer didn't want to draw a naked man
>>214858099>Wait, so the genre that is all about how technology disolves traditional institutions like identity, the physical body itself, the state, personhood and yes also gender/sexuality features scenes that go against conventional sexual norms? >AHHHH I AM LOSING MY FUCKING MIND AHHHHHH
>>214858173holy shit you are a tranny. I guarantee it's in there because he wanted to draw naked girls so he could jerk off
>>214855702It works doesn't it? Why not use what works and is most comfortable to you
>>214855702>I'm watching ghost in the shell on criterion>criterionDa fuq?
>>214857957Shut the fuck up. You can literally tell what it is and isn’t by looking at it. The licensed airshit gun is even literally just a 2006M, for fucks sake.
>>214858200GITS quite is literally a tranny anime.
>>214858245godzilla vs mothra is on criterion
>>214858280nah, that's you>>214858270still weird and autistic to use that and not like a mp model 10
It's thematic. Togusa is the most human field agent for Public Security Section 9. That's also his strength. They reflect this in his weapon choice, an old fashion revolver that still has a fancy twist with it being the Unica, which is gas operated, fired from bottom chamber, and is literally named "You are unique" by the designer.
>>214858363Are you for real? Manga is riddled with people changing in and out of bodies of the opposite gender including the major herself. The puppet master is some non-binary man-faced being with tits and one story is literally about a bunch of perverted businessmen swapping bodies with geisha prostitute cyborgs. There literally more tranny stuff in GITS than in entire sci-fi genres. Are you unironically trolling?
>>214858422there's no tranny shit in the film, you must be a troon
>>214858500Why do you have opinions on a movie you have never watched? You quite literally have no idea what you are talking about and expose youself as someone who has never watched it. This is the movie that inspired the Matrix for fuck's sake. Another tranny movie directed by TWO literal trannies.
>>214858532and neuromancer inspired both
>>214858398it's recoil operated, not gas operated. I think the desert eagle is the only notable gas operated handgun made in any significant numbers that's not like gas delayed blowback >>214858532I literally just watched the movie. the only thing remotely "tranny" in the film is that the literal AI which isn't a person has a guy's voice but uses like a women's body. that's the only thing. also the matrixs trannies became trannies due to weird sissy hypnobdsm shit while on drugs with some dominatrix who left them for buck angel. they have that shit from the sam rockwell meme, they were doing weird humiliation sissy cross dressing and then cut their dicks off for sexual purposes
