Would it be accurate to say that PTA tried to style the movie after Coen brothers but didn't quite hit the mark? Tonally it started off like No Country for Old Men then after 30 minutes turned into The Big Lebowski before pivoting back during the final confrontation (and again for the ending). As for the politics, it was making fun of and criticising both sides, even if the conservative one took the brunt of it (probably due to current political climate - even then some of that mockery is so over the top, it's hard not to chuckle at it).
