I work the night shift and they really do dim the lights, at least where I work. I don't know why they would do it on a star ship but whatever.

Can you imagine how fucked up everyone’s circadian rhythms would get? Every starship and space station would eventually be operating in separate time zones
>>
>>214862124
I imagine you could set everything on a universal clock as long as they are in space with everyone on an 8 hour rotation. 8 work/8 off/8 sleep
it should be manageable. any time a ship docks the night crews should be in sych

Racism isn't real. It matters not if you have a breed of dog like a labrador or a breed of alien like a Cardassian. Creatures have an innate nature and when you learn that only a fool would treat a creature without keeping their nature in mind.
Its basic pattern recognition. When a person in our world notices these patterns they are labeled racist because the empire in which we live is trying to force people who are of a different nature to live with one another.
Think about the Federation. Sure it has all these member worlds but do you see planets with a huge mix of people? Nope, most are a single race or majority one race with maybe a few oddball others that act in a way that is compatible.

So I just finished STD s3. I thought perhaps after watching the entire Trek saga before getting here again, it would make it better somehow.

It was still just as stupid as ever, if not more. The idea that some stupid Kaminarian emotional outburst, due to his genetic closeness to dilithium, resonated through subspace and exploded dilithium....it's just so stupid. So so so stupid.

Overall the season was just really meh, outside of the Burn storyline. The Emerald Chain storyline was weak, the "we're in the future" stuff was weak. Then we get 2 out of 13 episodes following Giorgio (idk how the fuck it's spelled and I don't care), on a mirror universe adventure that had virtually zero repercussions.

Ironically, nothing about the season resonated at all.

Now I'm on Season 4 Episode 1 and the opening is Burnham and Book getting chased by angry butterfly people. Yep. Butterfly people.

I'm 23 episodes from the finish line of my all-Trek watchthrough though, and I will make it to the end.

>>214863578
Unfortunately I haven't gotten past the episode with this fat ugly attention whore yet.

That is all.

I miss classic Spock.

>>214862124
One stupid thing from the Picard show, in season 3, the female villain lady says it's "afternoon in the Sol system." Um, what? Which time zone? Obviously it's San Francisco because nuTrek is for faggots, but still. It's a stupid line.

There's probably also species that fear transporter technology, or see a yacht coming down to take them as more dignified or more of a compromise between the two peoples.
>>
>>214868220
They aren't actually sapient, neither the universal translator nor the crew's attempts at interactions gave results. I'd say they're like space whales but since cetaceans are canonically smart enough to join Starfleet, they're like space cows. They see the ship as a single being and try to say hello with electrical exchanges, but we can't translate that anymore than we could translate dog barks into sentences.

I fucking loathe the way JJ interpreted Kirk's sabotage. The entire point of the Kobayashi Maru test is to evaluate the cadets response to a certain death scenario, just as pilots in real life are trained to fly the aircraft to the last second even when it's clear there's no hope of recovery. The way he circumvents it in the movie is over the top mockery of the test. When Kirk described it in TOS/TAS/original movies, he described it as making the test winnable, and Spock admitted that he beat the scenario. The phrasing makes it sound like he didn't actually alter any parameters that didn't 100% lock him into a guaranteed death and managed to defeat the incredibly difficult setup with actual skill. Imagine how much better the scene would have been if, because of his code of honor and ethics, you seem him white-knuckled, desperately barking orders as the simulator ship is barely holding together, while Spock looks on initially with indignance that turned to begrudging admiration. Instead we got this goofy bullshit. Fucking hell, Abrams.
>>
>>214869762
it also seems like someone someone wouldn't be able to just do that far in the future they would check every program before running it
>>
>>214869762
JJ clearly didn't give any care or tought about Star Trek, and it shows in every scene. One of the actors even asked "I'm not sure what I'm supposed to portray in this scene" and JJ said something along the lines, just make something up, it doesn't matter.
>>
>>214869762

i don't understand why there is even a problem. they can just do a binary search and find the right time period in (worst case) 4 attempts.

they even hinted at it by going to a time period, realizing it was different, and knowing they only had to look at time periods before that

>start with time periods 1-10

>choice 2: choose period in the middle (2 or 3, let's say 2)

That will never be true, no matter how hard you try to meme it into existence. And remember, you're not really anonymous here. If Mike McMahan actually cared, he can get the libeler's IP address from 4chan, and get his identity from his ISP, just like how "notice of copyright infringement" e-mails get sent to dumb bittorrenters. The only thing saving that anon is that he's too unimportant to warrant attention. For now.

>They can learn to work like you do, and then we'll have twice the personnel in exchange for one abomination's life
Why didn't the show writers point out these obvious arguments? Why did they work so hard to try and make Janeway look like a villain for simply wanting her crew back?

doing binary search of the 10 possibilities o'brien mentioned is quite different than doing it for 8.2 billion people (worst case of 4 vs 34)

Filter common phrases. Luckily, our resident autists tend to say the same things over and over again, terms almost no one else uses like "geezer" or how he says "oldtrek".

Filter that, filter Lower Decks, LD, and all variants, and filter the image MD5 of screenshots they post and eventually you'll be golden

Noel Wells shuddered as she entered the recording booth. The hairs on the nape of her neck tingled. She knew what was about to happen next.
Stepping up to the microphone, she stammered through mic check. "Ch-ch-check o-o-one," she barely managed to spit out between chattering teeth.
Suddenly the door to the booth burst open. There he stood, a different wild look in each of his asymmetrical eyes. He was wearing The Shirt. Always The Shirt. But no pants. Never the pants. He pounced like a leopard, his flabby bulk belying a dangerous, sinuous speed. Pinning her down,he attempted to clasp her neck with his stubby, Vienna Sausage-like fingers. As she began to dissociate to avoid the trauma, she heard him grunt:

>Josef Knau and Otto Rittweger were German industrial designers and members of the Bauhaus School. Little information is available about Rittweger, but Knau was also an acclaimed silversmith and anti-fascist resistance fighter during WWII. Their tea infuser was originally designed for the Bauhaus Metallwerkstatt, but was reproduced by Alessi in 1995. It was used as set dressing for Seven of Nine’s holographic quarters in the Voyager episode, “Human Error,” and, more prominently, as a salt-and-pepper shaker set in Captain Archer’s dining room in Enterprise.
Fascinating, something new to notice next time I rewatch Voyager.

URGENT COMMUNIQUÉ FROM SHADOW PRESIDENT AND MIKE MCMAHAN'S RAPE WINGMAN, VIC MIGNOGNA:
Agents, the interloper has grown more irritating. By reporting our geopolitical activities to the corrupt woke radical left law enforcement, we are now rangebanned from posting the Heroes and Icons schedule. Have no fear: the Fat Riker Prone 'Bone Anbo-Jyutsu Montessori Gesserit Squad has engraved the schedule on the casings of our TR-116 shells. The schedule is as follows (all times eastern)
1800 hours: ANTI ICE
1900 hours: NOTICES BULGES OWO
2000 hours: TOS: THE GALILEO SEVEN
2100 hours: TNG: TOO SHORT A SEASON
2200 hours: DS9: THE SEARCH PART II
2300 hours: VOY: THE DISEASE
0000 hours: ENT: OASIS
Our team of transgender custodial staff will be intercepting and neutralizing the interloper with their Dildomop 2000™ war Swiffers. Soon we will get him to admit his madness and accept the femdom supremacy of sexual matador Stacy Abrams. Until then, continue current plans under existing OPTEMPO. Trust in the Plan.
As always: glory to Heroes and Icons. Trust in the Plan. Death to the Opposition. Finally, a reminder as we enter the autumn season: do ***NOT*** leave unattended females around McMahan as we have no line item funding for snuff films anymore. Mignogna out.

Paris was already a fully fleshed out character from episode 1, should've given it to harry

>Tuvok and the Doctor are both too similar
not at all. One is very emotionally supressed, the other one is very expressive. the only thing they have in common is a tendency towards sarcasm.

Yes and no. I think it’s pretty well established that Garrett is a wang to work with, so from in an show perspective I agree he makes more sense but from behind the scenes perspective? Probably not

remember when STD put Elon Musk's name alongside Neil Armstrong and Cochrane before Musk chudded out? still makes me kek when I think about it

it's not like any of the other series required a nurse, they were seen sure but they were never necessary from a story telling perspective

Have they done an episode about an evil technocrat trillionaire yet in SNW?

I agree. It did seem silly to me that Tom would fill that role but lacking a nurse generally fits with Voy being understaffed. If they’d had a dedicated nurse they could’ve just made them the doctor. It’s not like the mark one was particularly good at his job at the start

All of that is untrue, unfunny and stupid. You make this thread worse by being here.

the doctor has always been pretty decent at his job. dont think anything has shown evidence otherwise.
The in universe problem with tom being nurse is that he has a critical job. its not a crew of 12 people so everyone needs to multi-task, its like 140-something. Its very unlikely that out of those 150 crewmembers that someone else besides tom took a few medical courses.

I’m not saying he was incompetent, he was an emergency program never intended to be the full time doctor. If they’d written a show with a dedicated nurse character, or indeed anyone with significant medical experience, they wouldn’t have needed the EMH to be a major character to begin with. And that would’ve sucked

The resident schizo. He scans every post of every thread daily for any mention of himself, and then he's gotta have the last word, even if it means replying to an archived thread nobody's reading anymore

I usually wait to the 36 hour. it catches my opponent more off guard and allows for more clinical verbal strikes as they have to remember what the point of the topic even is.

And yet some oldtrek geezer seether made an image from this post from a month and a half ago, then posts it while intoning "Damning." Because one can't like Star Trek for different reasons.

Yeah, it's pretty difficult to remember when there's a link to take you to the old post. You can't be this stupid; you have to be pretending to be stupid.
