Post your favourite horror film. Mine is pic related. A haunted house movie but it doesn't have the tropes nor clichés of those. It's melancholic and is a mystery-thriller at its core. 10/10
>>

I could post one of the obvious ones like the Thing but I'll post pic related, it's beautifully shot, fucking terrifying if you allow yourself to fully appreciate what's happening and doesn't run for longer than it needs to

Black Christmas (1974) not only the greatest slasher ever made but imo the most suspenseful film ever.
Runner-up: Blood and Black Lace (1964) the most visually stunning and beautiful horror film I've ever seen
>>
I really like Apostle 2018
Its not the best horror movie, but its often overlooked by everyone. Maybe the reason I like it, because I expected slop and got gem. It was the same thing with The Empty Man, but Apostle is an original script and Empty man is a comics adaptation.

Liked it a lot, but what a mess, the ending was underwhelming too.

I suggest you to look behind the scenes, if you are interested why it is like that. There were a studio and a director (writer) POVs. Basically they have the rights for a comic adaptation, but the writer wants to made a movie about the Buddhist horror (the bridge, tulpa, manifestation, cult, the mind over body, etc) so he had to combine 2 projects into one. Go and read the OG The Empty Man comics there is a huge mood and plot differences. And then, the Disney begin the studio acquisition process, so the final cut was rushed. Maybe in a better world we could get 2 good horror movies, tasteful adaptation for an Empty Man and tulpa manifestation by a bridge cult.

Could you imagine how comfy living in a lighthouse on a foggy night would be? Sans pirate ghosts of course.

Oh yeah that absolutely makes sense, the movie didn't work for me because it seemed to want to be 4 different movies and I couldn't figure out what the fucking point was

Can you point to anything more specific? I'm convinced this movie was propped up by that Canadian awards that started that same year and it swept or something. It reminded me of The Others and some other movie Id have to try and find it. Maybe late 70s early 80s. Pretty sure American. Cast of maybe 8 or so 20s and 30s something men and women. Like in an abandoned school or something maybe the filmmakers switched for a mansion? Haunted house movie. It wasn't like Slaughter High or anything. I didnt see the whole thing it was on cable

MoT was such a let down. At least I knew the remake would be meh, but I expected so much from MoT.
2 good Italian movies are The Red Queen Kills 7 Times and The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave. Gothic giallo, both by the same director.

I also liked The Embalmer. Older, it's in black and white, it's a weird proto-giallo. It turn into a proper one in the last act, but before that it's a pretty cool mystery/detective story about a serial killer using the canals of Venice to kidnap women using a wetsuit. The end is in some crypt and he's wearing a monk robe and a skull mask.

>>

>>
>>214871730
what's the difference between low-low budget and shitty bad flick?

the best low budget movies (Evil Ed, Bad Taste, BPW, TCM) are well known but people rarely talk about them being produced with next to zero budget

then we get ok-ish stuff like There's Nothing Out There, Tetsuo, Versus, Premutos and those, they're great efforts considering the budget but again people rarely mention them as low low budget since they're relatively known

then we have bad movie, take any troma-movie as an example, made by incompetent people or competent if they're bad on purpose. your example seems to be a bad movie. why is it a low low budget kino when it just seems like another Plan 9-failure people try to hype up?
>>
>>214872205

Always thought this one was more interesting than scary. It's a ghost story but more focused on the mystery of the ghost's identity and what happened to him that made him a ghost. Then the irony that the ghost may have been innocent when he died but it's become evil,

>>214873379
They're sort of superficially similar, but not enough that I'd consider it a ripoff.

Hereditary was an awful movie. More a parody of horror than actual horror.

This thread's kinda like /hor/ but not really.
>>
Watched that nu-Jap horror that's been praised to high heavens, Best Wishes for All
horrible Korea-tier social commentary slop that proves slants have no idea about how society works and are kept afloat by their bug-like work ethic providing social cohesion
this is of course not the idea that the movie tries to convey
in the movie an elderly family keeps a severely mutilated man in the attic with eyes and mouth sewn shut and this somehow represents their refusal to let go of their wealth so that niggers in africa can experience it in 20 years which they will nonetheless and if you let it go the kid will have his eyes pop out but the sister is selfish because she refuses to let her family bleed to death
