Obviously everyone wants resolutions to plots, but the overarching plot is more nebulous, harder to pin down, and therefore harder to care about; if the current denizens of Fromville escaped, and an entirely new set came in, lots of people would continue watching, a lot like a soap opera. A comparison I'd make is Supernatural, if you've seen that: I cared a lot more about them killing monsters and exorcising ghosts than hunting down the Devil or what have you.
