Why did so many people hate this movie?
Are they retarded or am I?

My feeling is they expected generic zombie flick à la 28 Years and forgot it's Danny Boyle directing it.
>>
I watched a little more than half of the movie, I'll continue after I eat something because I'm hungry. The first half was... quite interesting, although it bothers me that the movie looks like a video game at times, somehow the image is not consistent. Those slow-motion shots are completely unnecessary. The story is forgettable for now. Pretty meh
>>
>>214869014
outrage marketing
>>
>>214869014
I didn't see many people hating on it? Thought it was a great film although painfully obvious that the next film is going to finish the story.
>>
I had no idea it was supposed to be a trilogy so I went in expecting a complete movie and not just a setup for the 28 X Cinematic Universe
>>
>>214869014
people didn't hate it except some weirdos in here that cry that everything is woke for some reason or another, and the autists who can't shift set so they cry about tonal shifts. tonal shifts are kino.
>>
It's better than Weapons or Sinners at least
>>
>>214869014
The movie is so bad I audibly laughed during several scenes
>>
>>214870055
I got some laughs by saying “what the FUCK” at that goofy fucking power rangers ending
>>
Fell apart in the 3rd act.
>>
>>214869014
>Are they retarded or am I?
yes
>>
>>214870191
I assume they were supposed to be kids from when the original movie happened so they emulated things from the TV at the time
Though I'm pretty sure Jimy Saville was earlier
>>
>>214870376
It doesn’t even matter the tonal shifts throughout the film were jarring and ill advised
>>
>>214870460
all tonelets should fucking hang.
the tonal shifts are why the movie is so good.
>>
>>214870053
best movie of the year so far for me.
>>
>>214869014
Boring. Should have used Aaron more and also leant more and shown more of how they've adapted to medieval lifestyle in Lindesfarne.

Not done the whole "evolution of the virus". It should have become airborne or something after all burnings of bodies over the years or bodies just seeping into earth etc. Everyone living should have now had the virus but it only manifests overtime. Could take years, this is what Spikes mom should have had which it fucking looked like. Aaron could have had it but it's only timid at the moment.

Cillian Murphy should have turned up when the soldiers were there but you don't see him, you think its a "zombie" as it kills them and its revealed its him and he's nice to Spike then eventually leaves maybe in 2 spike sees him again as a leader of a nice community and Spikes uneasy because he saw him kill soldiers viciously.

Or go even gayer and have Spike be separated from his dad then they eventually reunite but he's infected and fights the alpha whilst Spike escapes.

Thanks for reading my reddit blog
>>
>>214870376
They really should have shown Saville on the TV or atleast the Jimll fix it logo before the mom comes in and switches it to teletubbies lol. That'd have been better and show why they look the way they do and they wouldn't have to explain it any further.
>>
>>214869014
i liked it but expect walls of text from the people who didn't, generally on scientific technicalities of the plot and zombies or whatever. which i guess is fair because people always do that to movies like this.
>>
>>214870460
Nothing wrong with tonal shifts if the movie is good, it just wasn't good
The only people that say it was good is people that like the "message" it was trying to express
>>
My man Ralph had almost no screentime but still managed to carry the whole movie with his performance. Unironically one of the best actors of all time.
>>
it was pretty fucking retarded but i still liked it

Times I laughed or scoffed during this retarded movie
>When the boy and his father narrowly escape, only for the kid and his mother to fuck around yelling on a hilltop the very next day
>The mother having stronk female capability and killing the zombie while the boy slept (then forgot about it the next day due to brain cancer lol)
>The fact the doctor can have massive bonfires in the open undetected
>The fact the doctor made it his routine to allow the alpha killer to live (almost resulting in his own death)
>The pregnancy scene where the zombie forgot it was a zombie until it had a baby where it shared a stronk womyn moment with the mother before promptly saying "time in!" and reverting back to a zombie
>the end scene

This movie was a comedy.
>>
>>214869014
i liked seeing the long floppy zombie dick with hairy bush
>>
I liked it. Was definitely different from what I was expecting (didn't know the 2nd half would focus on the boy and his mom) and the ending was a bit weird, but English people are weird so this fits

Also they should have included a scene explaining why the dad didn't t try to rescue his son. I know it's not allowed but it seemed off not showing that he got denied. Also you could just climb over the fence lol

7.5/10 and the trailer was a 10/10
>>
>>214869442
This is why I was disappointed too, probably wouldn't have even bothered seeing it if I knew it was just a set up for 2 more sequels.
>>
>>214870548
Anon I am afraid I have to tell you you have aspergers syndrome. Because of this the only gratification you can get from fiction is enjoying the practical considerations behind characters solving imagined problems. Most people are not doing this.

>>214870567
I agree anon this is good you should direct movies. Only Jimmy should have also said "hey Spike did that seem kind of weird? I learned that from tv. Also do you like my clothes? I am dressed like my favourite old tv celebrity Jimmy Saville, and I don't know anything sinister about him because in our world british civilisation ended before his crimes could be exposed. Making my idolisation of him as a hero ironic. Goes to show you the sinister undersides that can exist below the civility we take for granted, sort of like your father cheating on your sick money. Why spike, you could even say that's one of the many points of this movie!"
>>
>>214870816
>>214869442
it works fine as a standalone movie
>>
>>214870816
would you have waited until they were all out?
>>
>>214870920
No it doesn't.
>>
>>214870567
it's not necessary for Britishers, Saville was so recognizable that I just recognized how they were dressed instantly. and people outside Britain wouldn't know who the fuck he was anyway.
>>
Most people (read: Americans) just want to consume generic popcorn jumpscare slop and expected a generic 2 hour zombie movie. Anything remotely different or challenging hurts their brains. Not saying it was a perfect movie but it was certainly creative, different and peculiarly British.
>>
>>214870635
>responding to someone who agrees with you instead of the various posts calling this bs out

you fucking pussy
>>
>>214869014
They just wanted 2 hours of zombie chase sequences I guess. I liked the part with the boy and his mom. Thought it was interesting contrast to the hardened survivor mentality of his dad.

You are an idiot and this movie is garbage. You're extremely pathetic.
>>
>>214871179
Why are you trying so hard to hate the movie, even if you don't like it it's not nearly bad enough to have this level of vitriol. Some of you get so hysterical over nothing lol
>>

>This movie was a comedy.
To me it felt like a Tiktok movie
I just burst out laughing from the first "kill cam" slomo
The messaging of "Isolationism bad" was also terribly handled
>>
>>214871225
>trying hard to hate the movie
>pointing out nonsensical moments that happen throughout the film
It was straight up a bad movie, and an even worse "28" movie
>>
>>214871179
the doctor wanted the zombies to find him and was fully prepared for them as was repeatedly shown lmao

you just thought you were getting a film where zombies would kill NPCs a few at a time except for an adult male self-insert character. you can't accept female or child characters being good at things (even if they've lived their entire lives in the environment of the film) because it makes you feel insecure.

shame really this was exactly the kind of film 4chan usually claims they want.
>>
>>214871240
Oh yeah! Fucking lmao the video game bullet time kills ahhahahahahahahahaha I forgot about that dogshit
>>
>>214871272
>the doctor wanted the zombies to find him and was fully prepared for them as was repeatedly shown lmao
You are completely making up dogshit. When the doctor, the kid, and the mother had their scene a pack of zombies would have killed everyone. It makes no sense
>>
>>214871257
compared to Days, 28 Weeks was a non-stop clown car ride after the intro. but it had strong male characters shooting zombies in the head regularly and that's what the pleb scum demand.
>>
>>214869014
Do you mean 28 weeks? But yes that is what went right.
I don't know why people would expect standard sequel fair especially after Trainspotting 2.
Danny made an experimental sentimental film and it was great. Bone temple looks to be more on the action packed side but should still be entertaining.
I really enjoyed this. Resonated well as my mother had passed away, and the thing that helped me cope was understanding how to accept death, stop trying to deny your emotions. Memento mori.
Good film. Love danny boyle's work.
>>
>>214871240
>The messaging of "Isolationism bad" was also terribly handled
I don't think that was the message of it. The isolated island was the safest place in the movie.

I really didn't read it as a political film much at all. It's mostly just a dark coming of age story about a boy leaving his home and discovering the terror of the outside world.
>>
>>214871305
28 weeks stuck to it's narrative and fleshed out just fine, with the carrier angle and all that. If 28 weeks was anything like this movie you would have had a clownshow WWF style wrestling match where humans face off against zombie Hulk Hogan
>>
>>214871303
>if an extra pack of zombies had spawned on their location everyone would have died

you didn't have issues with the material like this when ATJ was present, for the reason I pointed out in >>214871272

and of course there was the petrol station scene earlier in the movie where they nearly did die for this exact reason, that you are selectively forgetting about because it would ruin the nitpick you have with a later scene. you have no objectivity at all.
>>
>>214871347
>The isolated island was the safest place in the movie.
As far as I'm aware, the UK is the only place with zombies
>>
>>214871179
Have you never known someone with brain troubles? They go radically back and forth between basically normal and childishly lost and confused.

And you even know what's wrong with your second point and try to kike your way out of it with vague language. "Military trained", yeah a Swedish navy patrol boat crew who picked up guns. But that's technically correct. They're made to look *more* competent than they should for a few shots, and generally with their gear, to provide a fake out which leads into the funny revelation of what the survivor is like.

That these people are retarded and unfit to survive is very much the point of the movie. That through being wiped out down to almost nothing what is left in Britain now has a kind of wholesome sanity to it. A groundedness to their existence. The "military trained NATO soldiers" were a bunch of retarded -oomers from the world of scam phone apps and fake jobs.

Jimmy and his gang violently rejected the pre-apocalypse world and became its inversion. They are dangerous because they spent 28 years surviving on screaming zombies stabbing your eyes out with their thumbs island. It'd be weird if they weren't extremely good at killing the infected.

>>214871272
The doctor is clearly ready to die, but he does also say that his home area being surrounded by water keeps most of the infected away, because they're too spazzy and uncoordinated to cross the water or his rope-bridges.

>>214871347
It's rather political when the man who directed the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony makes a movie that says "maybe life would actually be better if civilisation got annihilated in 2001".

My big read of this movie is that it's a product of Danny Boyle's dissilusionment with modern britain. He was never a libtard, he was a true believer that the world was actually getting better because of nigger and faggot rights and more jobs for women. Now he doesn't believe and misses old things and real life.
>>
>>214871379
>spawned
Or notice the massive bonfire that the kid and the mom noticed too? You stupid fuck
>>
>>214871349
28 Weeks was pure illogic the moment the main director took over. if you remotely rate it, or wanted Days to be similar, you are a fucking retard and ANY statement you might make about films can be utterly ignore. you should have just watched a Steven Seagal film you fucking dumb cunt.
>>
>>214871395
>Have you never known someone with brain troubles? They conveniently go back and forth between killing machine and lobotomite when necessary
>>
>>214871417
the scene where the doctor shows up it is daytime and the fire is not burning. then immediatley after that its revealed that he has running water as a moat. anyway, he obviously has the fire because he wants other survivors to find him. maybe you didn't really see the film.
>>
>>214871420
Not at all, especially the scene where the soldier is set on fire trying to get the kids out. That perfectly matches up with 28 days later. The infection happening in the quarantine zone made sense, as did the American indifference from the beginning of it
>>
>>214871394
Officially. We never see outside of the British Isles to confirm if it's true. But even then that's reaching for a BREXIT IS BAD message.

>>214871395
You can't attribute the messaging of a movie soley to its director. Movies are a collaborative artform. Left-wing directors have made movies with neutral or even right-wing messages.
>>
>>214871467
>he wants survivors to find it but doesn't kill the alpha male that rips survivor's heads off
You're an idiot
>>
28 weeks later is an objectively bad film.
>>
>>214871441
mental problems interspersed with episodes of lucidity are literally how brain tumors work BTW. not that you care about the reality, you just wanted pewpew
>>
>>214869014
The whole thing with Dr. Voldemort drugging Spike, killing and butchering his mom while he was out, then handing him her skull when he woke up, and then that whole thing being treated like a touching moment was enough of a turn-off, but then the tonal whiplash of the final scene that would have been too retarded for Shaun of the Dead made me not terribly interested in where they were going with it, but then finding out that Nia “BLACK GIRL MAGIC” Dacosta is directing Bone Temple completely killed any interest I may have had. Bonus points because one of the leads is that bug-eyed ginger mulatto who Disney was obsessed with forcing into everything for a few years.

I hated the Left 4 Dead “special infected” too, and also the fact that the dad didn’t give enough of a shit about his wife and son to go look for them.
>>
>>214871519
Oh yeah I know tons of terminal brain cancer patients that sometimes kill people with their barehands too. Children even!
>>
>>214871484
>But even then that's reaching for a BREXIT IS BAD message
Really?
The whole story was about the boy realising that staying home was death
>>
>>214870990
That’s exactly what the trailer promised.

“Muh Murricans” is such cope.
>>
>>214871512
a tiny bit of imagination and you would have considered that he is using the alpha pack as a way to keep the Jimmy Gang away. people like you are the reason Netflix explains every single plot point in dialogue just in case their audience is texting.
>>
>>214871565
What? He left home because he wanted to help his mother, and she died anyway.
>>
>>214871537
she killed a crawler not a person as you would of course know if you'd seen the film.

>>
>>214871567
>That’s exactly what the trailer promised.
the trailer is entirely shots from the film and straightforwardly shows the film's events in order. you projected the film you expected onto those images. there's nothing a marketing campaign can really do to stop that.
>>
>>214870567
It's more Robbie Williams shit of Brits VASTLY overestimating the fame and recognizability of their 'celebrities' outside their little island
>>
>>214871630
>incorrect statement x2
I accept your concession
>>
>>214871631
>Yes, because staying home was death
You're trying really hard to reach for a message that isn't there. Home wasn't death, his mother was doomed no matter where she went or what she did.
>>
>>214871441
The creature she killed was about as dangerous as a vole that dislikes people on an animal comparison scale. And this woman was presumably doing things other than living on the island at one point in her life. She's more than 28 years old. She went from senile to her old knowledge and self-possession. She had probably showed a lot more initiative and violence than that at some past point in her life.

>>214871484
I listened to about 20 hours of Danny Boyle and Alex Garland talking about this movie, their lives, and their careers after seeing this movie. I'm better qualified than anybody else in this thread to comment.

Garland, despite being the foundation, I don't consider that interesting a character. I have read The Beach, I feel like I have a decent feel for him. Very stock pre-woke British nerd. In another timeline he's writing comic books about super heroes who say "fuck" and is still mad about George W Bush and evangelical christianity.

Boyle rejected his first Years script, which would have made the other side of this thread happy for sure. It was about soldiers going to the lab where it all started to learn about the virus. And they would be a Chinese team (heroic Chinese gain of function research keeping the world safe, written pre-COVID).

Garland wrote a script about nostalgia, the past, and coming of age. Boyle inserted a lot of the more warm British elements, things like cutting into stock footage of old British movies, Boots, etc. And they both give massive credit to the whole production team for their collective influence. it is a group operation. Still that doesn't mean we can't read key creative influences in the work or work backwards to their minds and ideas through what's on screen (or what they're saying).

>>214871512
He's probably going to be confronted about his irresponsibility and half-assed death wish by Spike's father next movie. Opening will probably be flashback to his wife dying, driving him a bit nuts.
>>
>>214871614
Largely not, hence this movie. A "what if time stopped moving in 2001 and instead went backwards?" story.
>>
>>214871683
I'm not trying hard at all, the movie is literally about Isolationism, I bet if you look hard enough the director will say the same
It's just really poorly handled, like I said
>>
>>214871668
It's a very British movie made for British audiences, you don't need to get angry because we have celebs that aren't important overseas
>>
>>214871645
Almost the entirety of the marketing was Spike and his dad’s journey, and then a few cryptic shots of people in masks and piles of bones with the pulsing “Boots” accompaniment. None of that screamed “domestic drama/coming-of-age story”.

Plus…you know…people are going to have certain expectations based on what came before. You can’t call them assholes for that just because you liked the final product, strawman as you may.
>>
>>214871727
>I'm not trying hard at all, the movie is literally about Isolationism
I really disagree, it's mostly a coming of age story mixed with nostalgia and coming to terms with death
