Was Spider-Man 3 a good movie, an average movie, or a bad movie?
>>
This whole trilogy didn't age well
>>
>>214872196
How did it not age well?
>>
>>214872179
First hour is on the same level as the first two films except some characters are stupid. Then the movie falls apart.
>>
>>214872179
All capeshit sucks
>>
>>214872179
it's not as good as the amazing spider-man 2 but it's still easily the second best spider-man movie
>>
>>214872246
What the fuck was sony's problem? Raimi delivers 2 extremely liked, hugely successful movies back to back, and then they strong arm him into putting shit he doesn't want into the movie. Amy Pascal and Avi Arad are fucking retarded,
>>
>>214872334
Neither of those approach the genius that was the venom trilogy.
>>
>>214872179
It’s pretty shitty for a 3rd movie in a trilogy. Peter still dealing with his identity crisis about being a super hero should have just been a thing for Spiderman 1, and touched on in the sequel. People wanted to see Eddie Brock and Venom. Not the symbiote being a metaphor for that identity crisis
>>
>>214872196
fuck off, i'd rather watch 3 over iron man jr
>>
>>214872341
>Amy Pascal and Avi Arad are fucking retarded
I remember one of the MCU Spider-Man movies gave special thanks to Avi, and that triggered all the spideyfags on Twitter to shit on him. Based nerds
>>
>>214872179
I like it. I don't know if I like it more or less than 2. Doc Ock is definitely better than Sandman or Venom, but 2 is bogged down so awfully by the MJ subplot that I actually find the film difficult to get through (I also don't like the yellow filter).
My favourite will always be the first though, purely because it's a nice self-contained story with minimal fat.
Fuck I miss the early 00s.
>>
>>214872179
My hot take is that Topher Grace was actually really well cast as Anti-Peter Venom. Realistically this is what Peter would be without Uncle Ben teaching him to use his power for good.
>>
>>214872341
Sony pictures is probably the dumbest movie studio in hollywood. These are the same people that made morbius, thought the widespread mockery of it was "fan support", relreased it and then it bombed even harder.
>>
>>214872179
Yes.
>>
>>214872179
It's incoherent. It's a 7/10 movie.
>>
>>214873894
I still remember seeing these pics back in 01 and thinking how awesome it was that we were finally getting a spiderman movie. And casting Dafoe as Goblin was a stroke of genius.
>>
>>214874954
I remember going shopping with my mother and seeing the toys and studying the film stills on the back of the card for weeks before the film came out.
>>
>>214874986
I remember my brother collected the Dr. Pepper Spider-Man cans. I think it was just Spidey & Goblin

Bringing him back for the MCU was peak capeshit.

3 is a masterpiece. It's messy, but it manages to tie together the series with a neat bow. Every actor in the Rami trilogy is at their peak performance and having a great time doing it.

I can't think of a more unappreciated 3rd movie in a trilogy short of maybe Riddick or Scary Movie 3
>>
>>214872246
Nah, even as a kid i could tell something was off the moment they reused footage of the final swing scene from Spiderman 2 in the intro for whatever reason. That felt extremely cheap to me and i knew the movie was gonna be shit. I also got a similar feeling in the intro of The Dark Knight Rises.

Its probably average for capeshit, but a significant fall from 1 and 2. Comparing it to any solo character MCU flick from the last ten years and its probably of equal quality. Has way more SOVL, if you will, and bully Maguire is funny and its clear Raimi was just effing with Sony by that point of production.

its flaws aside, i actually prefer it over no. 2
2 is just peter getting the bad end of the stick for no reason and the villain is practically the same as the first movie (ambitious scientist's innovation failed and turned him evil)

I think you're wrong because Green Goblin in the first Spiderman already made the parallels between hero dealing with an identity crisis vs villain dealing with identity crisis a thing and it was blatantly apparent

I hated it at the time but now I feel oddly nostalgic about it and that time period. Entertainment is so bad now that even SM3 looks good.

Prove me wrong, bitch. Every character arc is satisfied, themes of revenge, jealousy, responsibility, and forgiveness are woven together nicely. Harry dies at peace, Peter and MJ fix their relationship, Peter forgives Marko and himself and comes to grips with his roles as spooderman.

Oh man, buckle up, because Spider-Man 3 is basically the cinematic equivalent of mixing cotton candy, espresso, and a middle school talent show—and I say that with nothing but love. People act like this is Raimi’s awkward kid at the family reunion, but honestly? It’s The Pest (1997) in a superhero costume, and that’s why it rules.
Think about it: The Pest is John Leguizamo going full Looney Tunes in human form, bouncing through scenes with unrelenting, cartoonish energy. Now swap in Tobey Maguire strutting down the street with “evil jazz hands,” and you’ve got the same DNA—an unapologetically chaotic embrace of tone over logic. Both films live in that strange, magical space where you’re not sure if you’re watching genius or a dare gone wrong. And that’s the thrill.
Venom? Sandman? Harry’s melodrama? It’s like Raimi went to a buffet of comic book tropes and said, “Yes, pile it all on my plate, I want dessert and breakfast at the same time.” Just like The Pest throws slapstick, musical numbers, and fourth-wall chaos into one blender, Spider-Man 3 throws camp, heartbreak, and meme-worthy dance sequences into another—and dares you not to smile.
Does it wobble? Absolutely. But that wobble is the charm. Both films are time capsules of pure, unfiltered energy, movies that don’t care if you’re rolling your eyes as long as you’re rolling with them. And if you can’t admit that Tobey’s finger guns are spiritually linked to Leguizamo singing in the shower, you’re denying yourself one of cinema’s greatest, weirdest crossovers.
Spider-Man 3 isn’t just a superhero movie—it’s Raimi’s accidental tribute to The Pest, and that’s why it deserves a standing ovation.

>>214872179
It's bad. There is a lot to criticize, but let's talk about the villains: Sandman was Raimi's first choice, maybe along New Goblin. But that fucking retcon fucked the character and he seems out of place during the whole movie, his arc is too dark for the tone of the trilogy. New Goblin is fine and his arc makes sense but goddamn his design is so bad he becomes a flying joke. The villain everyone really wanted, Venom, was the one Raimi kinda hates but the producers told him to shove it and you can see Raimi don't know what to do with him, we memed that dance scene a few years later but at the time it was the introduction of "cringe" for a lot of people. On Venom itself, Topher Grace was a shit casting and the visual was ok at best, he's too small with a big head and the lack of the famous white symbol just makes him looks like Spider-man with a big mouth that looks more funny than scary. Each part is bad but and you joing all three together you have too many lame villains and time to develop a true story for any of them.

The you got the new character, Gwen Stacy. Why in the fucking why do you introduce such an important character in the third movie? For those who knew Gwen from the comics, like me, it was even worse. All she did was to shake Peter/MJ relantionship in the worst possible way, in the final scene they are dancing together and you can see that their love is broken. To end the trilogy in such a sad note was awful, Peter's struggle was for nothing: he wasted his chances with all the women in his life, his best friend is dead and so is most of his family. We all know that at the time chances were high of a Spider-Man 4 and the plans were for Vulture and Black Cat before the reboot, but you I don't think you can really untangle the mess that was SM3.
>>
>>214875162
and then they fumbled him and Molina and made them useless shit villains that did nothing at all fun or interesting. Completely wasted concept.

>Topher Grace was a shit casting
Topher was perfect casting for the intention, which was basically "what if Peter was a selfish asshole."
The smart thing to do would have been to keep all the Eddie stuff and save Venom for the next film (imagine if the final shot of Spider-man 3 was Venom launching to camera). Raimi didn't so much hate Venom as he wasn't attached to the character because he'd stop actively reading the comics before Venom was introduced, but had become familiar over the course of the production, so he would probably have been better primed for Venom in SM4.

>Topher was perfect casting for the intention, which was basically "what if Peter was a selfish asshole."
That's comic Eddie too. Except that after losing his job he spent months alone living in squalor and lifting to fight depression, that's why when Venom finds him he looks like a Mr. Olympia contestant. My biggest problem with Topher is not him being small, is his shit acting. Another problem is that Venom looks like a big guy (4u) at best, when he should look like a monster, in Tom Hardy's movies Eddie is a regular guy but Venom is big af. The size thing makes him looks silly, like a parody from Scary Movie.

A step down from the previous two for sure, yet still better than any capeshit that came after it. I blame Sony, they've managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by meddling and bogging down Raimi and his vision. Fucking retards. Still an enjoyable movie, with Harry's and Peter's relationship and ultimate reconciliation being the highlight of the movie, a good Sandman too, even if retroactively shoehorned into the uncle Ben story.

This. Raimi salvaged it to some extent with the visuals and humor but holy fuck, what a terrible, half-assed script. Almost every scene is problematic but the one for me that really takes the cake is the big villain team up-moment.

First of all, Eddie's just swinging around the city until he happens to get randomly attacked by Marko because he looks like Spider-Man. Not accidentally, his PLAN was to be randomly ambushed by Marko in some alleyway so he just swung around for a bit until it happened. Because how many alleys are there in New York City, realistically? Like, five? Six?

But leaving aside the incredible coincidence of them meeting to begin with, their interaction is so unbelievably truncated and illogical. Marko attacks who he thinks is spider-man, the thing turns out to be some monster with spider-man's powers and outfit but a face with hinged jaws and giant fangs like an alien and his reaction is to decide it's not spider-man and just shrug and turn away. And then the monstrous alien creature he just met rolls down its liquid face to reveal a human one, says it was looking for him knows about him and his daughter and they should team u to kill Sider-Man. And he doesn't ask any of the 100 questions he should ask, like why the weird monster-faced alien looks like Spider-Man, or has his powers or WHY IT KNOWS ABOUT HIS DAUGHTER, he just is like "sure, random inhuman creature who looks just like my nemesis and inexplicably has personal information about me and my family, I will agree to work with you and no further discussion is required. Let's do this."

Seriously, what the fuck was that

The whole movie wouldn't make sense without the symbiote plotline. What corrupts Peter instead?

Also Venom should have been Jameson's son instead. He acquires the symbiote during a space mission, and also already has some beef with Peter for stealing MJ from him.

Garfield himself is actually really good as Spidey, but the first film suffers from trying to distance itself from the previous entries, to the point where they even change how Ben says power and responsibility line. The second film is better in that it feels more comfortable just being a Spider-Man film, but then shits the bed by trying to set-up the entire Sinister Six. There is so much potential in both films, but the Sony meddling bleeds through in every aspect.
>>
>>214872179
I just saw this again. Parts of it have aged well, namely the visuals and overall style of it, but the script really is a fucking mess. We know that Raimi was forced to include the symbiote/Venom, and it seems like he just made that entire part of the movie a farce instead of playing it as a straight drama - I enjoy those parts, but it really robs the movie of a chance to have an actually focused third act with its other two villains. Unbelievable that they do the asspull with the butler telling Harry that Peter didn't kill Gobby right before the climax, and too much of the movie is spent on a dead end Harry amnesia storyline (presumably so they could manage the other two villains without having to worry about him).

It was good/average.
At the time I thought it was a little bloated and all over the place with too many plot lines and too much CGI.
Nowadays it's a visual masterpiece compared to the CGI laden crap that's come out since. It's funny, weird, has way more personality and heart than literally pick any marvel movie since like 2008.
If it were still the 00's, I would have called it average, but it's the current year, and it looks good in hindsight.

The bizarre thing about the movie is that all the worst parts are Raimi, and the best parts are what the studio wanted. Harry Goblin? Looks like a dipshit surfer, spends the movie with amnesia. Only his redemptive death is actually good. Sandman? For some insane reason we're supposed to forgive him for everything just because his daughter is sick, and the perfect rendition of Spider-Man's origin in the much superior first movie gets a massive awful retcon thrown at it.
But the symbiote, Venom? They're the best part of the film and Raimi doesn't even like them. As short as Venom's screen time is, Raimi draws upon his horror experience to make the monster memorable. The symbiote character drama might be the best part of the movie. Peter shedding the symbiote in the church might be the best part of the movie.

I wish Raimi had finally gotten to do Vulture. Every sequel he did, Vulture was always part of the initial plans. He always got kicked down the road until 4 was finally feature him as the primary villain. Granted, Raimi's 4th movie didn't sound great (Felicia Kyle as the Vulturess, daughter of John Malkovich's Vulture). The cold opening with Bruce Campbell as Mysterio would have been though.

The cold open was supposed to show other villains Raimi was never gonna use as main baddies like Rhino, Mysterio, Shocker among others. It could have been fun, but Avi Arad probably hated Sam at that point.

1 and 2 were great, 3 was good. best superhero movies with Nolan's batman trilogy mirroring it.

the problem with 3 was that it was overambitious and it failed to fulfill its aim.

>Every sequel he did, Vulture was always part of the initial plans.
Not the Lizard? Every Raimi Spider man goes out of its way to show Dr Connors and his missing arm. Back then we (nerds) joked that The Lizard was finally going to show up in Spiderman x+1. Funny that The Lizard still wasn't planned for 4. Would have loved to see Raimi's Black Cat.

Problem was cramming Venom in when this should have been a two part film with Pete coming in contact with the symbiote and Sandman/Vulture being the main antagonists then Venom and Harry teaming up against Peter in 4.

This is why they should have left Harry in a coma until 4, had Peter and MJ break up for good and have Gwen Stacey introduced so that he'd be Peter's love interest in 4 and have Harry kill her!!!FACT!!!

Bad movie compared to its contemporaries, average movie on its own merits, good movie compared to films made after 2006.

Amy Pascal was the real problem as she was a stupid kike rat responsible for every stupid decision at Columbia such as Ghostbusters 2016, taking Stephen King's The Dark Tower series and ruining a potential franchise by hiring Akiva (Batman & Robin) Goldsman to script with Idris Elba as Roland, who's supposed to be based on Clint Eastwood's Man With No Name from the Dollars Trilogy.

7 books could have been seven movies but the first was such a failure they didn't continue.

Even worse is that Sony hired Tom Rothman to take over, the former head of 20th Century Fox who's a fucking moron that hated comic book movies, fought against making X-Men, Fantastic 4 and Deadpool, fought against Avatar because of its environmental message, while the dumb cocksucker also sold TITANIC's foreign rights to Paramount for only 50 million because he thought it was going to crash and sink (see what I did there!) with his only saving grace being that he married Jessica Harper from Phantom of the Paradise, Susperia and Inserts...

In both cases they were shielded because they're both Kikes but eventually eventually too many fuck ups can't be ignored and why they got shitcanned!!!FACT!!!

Also want to point out the parallels between the Evil Dead and Spider-man movies....

Evil Dead/Spider-man: A bit rough but overall solid and a good stepping stone.
Evil Dead 2/Spider-Man 2: Both masterpieces and Sam Raimi at his absolute best.
Army of Darkness/Spider-Man 3: Both turned into clownshows and written by both Sam and his brother Ivan Raimi, the latter of which having nothing to do with the previous two films in either franchise and not a coincidence that they're both shit!

!!!FACT!!!

the worst thing about the movie was how they handled JJ. Every scene with him in the trilogy was comedy gold, but they him so generic that it just felt like forced fan service. JK Simmons even asked for the wig and they said no, which ruined the look.
