I feel like with some of these older shows, you have a very wide type of audience who rates them.Then with some newer ones, they hit a certain spot for people and it's more hyperfans who rate them.Mostly thinking of specific genre type stuff like scifi.It's at least how I cope when I see peak from the 90s with so much yellow, and then recent slop with so much green.

Usually nothing super expensive came out which also means there weren't many spectacular things going on. Nowadays show runners prefer to concentrate the budget on a few episodes rather than spreading it out for like two dozen episodes. That means you can have seasons that look close to movies in terms of production values.
