>>214901811Yes, they do. In both the book and show. Since grrm didn't finish it though, the show has him destroy his character arc to run back to Cersei which he'd never do in the book. Jaime was not a bad person at heart. He believed in his vows whole heartedly and dreamed of being the best knight ever. He believed in the fairy tale version of what a knight was supposed to be. Then when he actually achieved it, he suffered years of torment and humiliation plus driving a wedge in his family. His father is pissed since Jaime was his primary heir. The Mad King uses Jaime to torment Tywin. Jaime swore oaths to all of them yet is forced to break oaths to most of them to keep oaths to others. He refused to let the Mad King kill all the innocent citizens, so killed the guy. And for that, he's tormented, mocked, and shunned for King Robert's entire reign. Never really thanked. And forced to listen to Robert practically rape his sister regularly as well as cheat on her. So Jaime says screw it and goes back to banging his sister. Killing Bran was never something he intended or planned. It was a necessity and there was zero time to even think about it or other options. The kid was there in the secret area, and he saw them. He needed to go. Any delay gets them killed. When Jaime loses his sword hand, it brings him back to Earth and he's pretty much nothing anymore. He respects Brienne for being a good warrior and honorable. He doesn't want to see her hurt and dishonored any more than the other people he swore to protect. Again, this changed in the later seasons since D&D started making their fan fiction version of Jaime.
Look up Gwendoline and Nikolaj's interviews if you want to laugh. They drove the other cast members nuts with how insufferable they could be
If anything, Brienne is supposed to end up with Jaime either platonically or help him regain his honor. She's the opposite of his sister who he fiercely despises by the end of the last written book. Jaime was fine letting his sister die to the chaos she caused and didn't even respond to her desperate plea for help. He'd never defile a noble maiden then leave her crying in bed to run back to Cersei. Especially not one who he respected and shared life and death adventures with like Brienne.
