I started with Thai dramas (Lakorns) almost 15 years ago while backpacking throughout southeast asia. Every street vendor had a portable tv plugged in with a drama playing nightly so I'd buy a bowl of noodles, sit on a plastic stool and watch with them. The actors were very expressive and over dramatic so I could follow what was happening. I still watch occasionally.
