Guy stuck by himself on an abandoned cargo ship for four years:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyU6NtwspLMtl;dr:>when shipping companies go bust, the ships, cargo, and crew can be totally abandoned, stuck in legal limbo anywhere in world unable to pay port fees, crew wages, etc. and it happens all the time apparently>fag was stuck by himself on a ship for four years, eventually running out of fuel, electricity, fresh water, food, and supplies>he was legally obligated to stay on the ship, so even though he could swim to shore he was not allowed to stay on landIf you draw a Venn Diagram of movies like Cast Away. The Terminal, Captain Phillips, and other Tom Hanks movies this is THE uber-Hanks movie right in the overlapping middle. This story should attract Tom Hanks like a fly to a shit pile. Also a ship like this seems like a great place to shoot a horror film like 'Death Ship' or 'Triangle'. I wonder how feasible such a thing would be?>also general thread about other stories/events/IPs that are obviously obvious for casting obvious actors or projects for particular directorfags
>>214945009He was forced to stay on the ship by crooked Egyptian officials.
>>214945161So in the movie Tom Hanks could eventually defeat them - the bad guys - with a gay little speech. Perfect.
>>214945009Good idea, I'll pitch it thanks /tv/bro.
>>214945161>EgyptianAhhahaha, that explains everything. What am unbelievably corrupt country from top to bottom, there's not a single person who's not trying to rip you off all the way from the street beggars to the president. Incredible that the country even still exists with this magnitude of incompetence and pure malice. Arbitrary fees charged left and right, for example cargo ships not only need to pay the exorbitant official fees to transit the Suez, you need dozens of cartons of cigarettes in bribes to pass too. It's just too funny.
>>214945295oh noes not $20 worth of jeet cigarettes
>>214945225Everyone posting in this thread gets a point on tye backend for our contribution. That's how Hollywood film development works. I'll have my lawyer dm you the documents.
>>214945009>didn’t even launch a nanomachine DDOS pathetic
>>214945312They only accept Marlboro reds. Up to 40 cartons... it's normalized extortion and bribery. How is that a good look? It just sets the tone for the whole country.
>>214945009Didn't he already do this in The Terminal, man stuck in limbo due to things out of his control.
>>214945386>They only accept Marlboro redsYou’ll take my American Spirits and you’ll like it foreign devil
>>214945386they're still about a dollar a pack outside the US
Seems to me the solution is:1.Gofundme for the bribes for an expedited new passport for him from the shady new Syrian regime plus airfare2.Someone goes to Egypt and takes him the passport3.He flies back home to Syria or the closest non bombed airport and busses the rest of the way4.Nothing changes on the ship it stays where it is and continues slowly rusting and rotting.5.Egyptian authorities can go pound sand and do nothing.???
>>214945461500k in transit fees PLUS 40 cartons of Marlboros just because fuck you. You see how it comes across? It's not the price.
Also just for clarification, the oversimplified headline of 'alone for four years' isn't quite accurate. He was personally stuck there that long, but other crew progressively left after a couple of years, and his supplies and ship's systems were dwindling over time, etc.Though the details wouldn't matter for a film. I haven't seen 'Sully' but considering the rather dramatic IRL events I presume in the movie version Tom Hanks defied direct orders, punched out the objecting copilot, grazed the Statue of Liberty while flying upside down, and then tied a rope around his chest and singlehandedly pulled the sinking plane onto shore doing a butterfly stroke.
>>214946075instead of making The Terminal about any one case of "guy stuck in airport" spieberg just made a fictional version even though he had bought the rights to someones life story, you can do the same thing here same basic premise just make up a story
>>214945464Thats what happened but the liar arab is lying about being on the boat for 4 years lol as hes an arab aka a liar.
>>214945295>>214945386I too like to make stuff up.
>>214945551>oh no not an additional $400
>>214946817>Bribes in thirdie countries don't exist>>214946923>Principles? What are those?
>>214945009Me? I would just leave the ship but I guess our cultures are different
>>214946966>international shipping>principlesanon.
>>214946990It's unclear what factors were keeping him there. For example, what would be the effect on his career if he successfully escaped? He expressed a desire to continue in the job afterwards. Maybe he was being cucked in multiple ways, strung along with 'two more weeks', etc.
