Well I just finished this one. First half was a snooze and then it just goes fucking nuts. Lots of edgy shit here. The maternity ward and pregnant bitch were a bit much. Honestly shits horrific and doesn't hold any punches. Where does this one sit with you fans
>>
the best predator movie ever made
>>
>>214954425
nah. Nothing has topped the original for me so far. It hits every beat and wastes no time

This and the first film are interesting to watch together. I take it this was a response to people who didn't like the mean heroine focus & teamwork angle of the first film. Here every human character and their boring worlds are pure collateral, kids, pregnant women, babies, no one safe. Can't say I don't appreciate it for being being ballsy and being so true R rated
>>
>>214954526
the first predator is garbage
>>
>>214954526
*meant first avp and *main heroine
>>
>>214954298
Wolf is the only good part of this. And that huge lack of contrast and shitty lighting is way too much.
>>
>hot blonde chick breaks up with chad bf for a dorky loser
Literally the most unrealistic part of the movie
>>
>>214954793
This was the plot of every high school teen film around that time. Once I picked up what this film was doing with the first half being a boring ass setup I got it. It was like taking those films and throwing aliens and predators in the mix. She got a good unceremonious death as well
>>
>>214954298
its a bad movie, The only good thing happens after the Aliens start invading the city.
>>
>>214954298
I actually kind of like it.
It's such a guilty pleasure movie.
The small town teen slasher drama stuff I hated when the movie came out (didn't like the movie very much at all when it came out) but now it's a very nostalgic time capsule of American middle class life in the mid-00's.
The Predator has some cool action, and I like the establishing sequence at the very beginning of the film, where you get to see him in his lair in the middle of this decaying alien metropolis. Says a lot with very little.

Now ... how to phrase this best ... part of what makes the original Alien 1979 so good *is* the raw shock value of the chestburster.
So I'm actually not entirely against some of the vicious stuff in the movie.
Did it go too far?
Maybe.
But for better or worse it's memorable.
>>
>>214955729
Going too far is what made it so effective I feel. The sheer brutality of the xenomorphs using pregnant women and kids whereas the predators have their rules. Having everyone as collateral puts you on edge during the final act as even the kid wasn't safe from this films logic. Some will dismiss it as edgy and they're not wrong, but it's more horror than any of the entries. Gives me a final destination feel
>>
>>214954298
alien 1-4
pred 1-2
avp 2
that's the only canon
>>
>>214954298
It degraded both franchises to DTV-tier trash. There's a difference between pushing an envelope the way Alien did, in a way that's intelligent, artistic, and original, and in line with the theme of the movie, and the way AVPR does it, i.e. in a schlocky, exploitive way that's just there to shock people.
>betcha didn't think the little kid was gonna chestbursted, did you?
>betcha didn't think a whole nursery was gonna get wasted, did you?
It's just bullshit for gorehounds.
>>
>>214955729
>but now it's a very nostalgic time capsule of American middle class life in the mid-00's
most teen comedies are like this for me even though I hated them as a teen

>>
>>214954298
It's considered one of the worst, it's meh and you can't see shit.
>>
>>214956159
And yet since the first Alien it's the only film in the franchises that exerts dread
>>
>>214956229
I'm finishing Predators right now and this has to be the worst
>>
>>214956423
lol no it doesn't. It looks like a CW production, only with gore. The aliens especially look like shit.
>>
>>214956459
prey is easily the worst and then there's romulus and then probably they new movie coming out
>>
>>214956500
Prey is at least competently made and looks like a movie which puts it ahead of some others
>>
>>214956229
not a problem now that OLED exists
>>
>>214954298
I love how bleak it is, and how it never offers the viewer any comfort. The human characters are all just cattle served up for slaughter.
You rearely see this kind of conviction in horror movies.
>>
>>214954298
Literally this and Romulus are the only alien movies I don’t like.
I just hate the Predator-xeno, it’s such a cheap shitty 60s Godzilla costume. It’s literally a reused Predator prop from another movie they slapped an alien tail on. It doesn’t even have the long alien head. It’s literally just a Predator with no eyes and a tail. And the inner mouth jaw but as an alien autist the long head in part serves as the apparatus for the inner mouth to bust through metal and people’s heads and shit. So I guess for the layman maybe this is alright but also that was the lamest alien outbreak in a town on earth ever, nothing even happened. The atmosphere and mystique of the whole thing was shit, they were just in a high school building and running around the woods that sucked ass, that movie sucked it’s garbage the more I think about it. Trash.

ITT: people too dumb to set up their TV properly.
>>
I thought it was unwatchable. I didn’t finish it.
>>
>>214956730
>competently made
go back to bed trachtenbergstein
>>
>>214956500
Seen romulus, I'm just doing predator films & avp rewatches. I'll be impressed if 2018 or prey are more boring than Predators
>>
too dark and a teenage romance plot doesnt belong in a predator movie
>>
>>214957172
>he didn’t like Predators
How. I almost (almost) like it better than the original.
>>
>>214954298
Reprehensible film. Genuinely vile.
>>
>>214957278
What makes you say that?
And this is not a disagreement, I am wondering if you can put into words something I have trouble doing.
>>
>>214957210
Feels like it's riffing on the first film's form but worse in every way. Doesn't have the pacing or charisma of it. brody's gruff guy voice was a bit cringe. Not a bad film just bland
>>
>>214956888
>people too dumb to set up their TV properly
This was a huge complaint even in theaters. It's just an awfully lit movie.
>>
>>214957554
>Topher Grace standing over Brody: “So, you are a good man after all.”
>Brody: “No. Not good.” *spins around like cold steel the hedgehog and puts a knife to Topher’s throat* “But I’m fast…”
Literally one of my favorite scenes in any movie. Lmfao.
>>
>>214957554
I'll go one further than you and say it is bad.
Nothing interesting or memorable about it, and being boring and bad is the worst kind of bad.
Most people won't agree with me, but I kind of liek The Predator (2018) for daring to do the Section 8 squad and autism harvesting subplot.
At least I can remember that movie, and by association with its insane shit, I can also remember the few decent action scenes it has, and the moments when it actually does feel fun and competent.
Predators is just a blur of impotent derivative imagery.
>>
>>214957637
cause back then theaters didnt have laser projection and people at home didn't have oled tvs
>>
>>214957639
Kek and him doing running hits on the predator had me
>h-hes fast!!!
yeah that was good fun. Maybe I will appreciate it over time more
>>
Predators fans are embarassing.
>>
I've always felt that for a gimmicky cash in this is a surprisingly well executed genre film. The only real qualm I have is the darkness of the image, have to squint throughout most of its duration just to make out wtf is going on.

It's ridiculous that AvP still hasn't understood that fans want a movie set after Aliens and with Colonial Marines. AvP has always actually meant Alien vs Predator vs Colonial Marines. Yet the dummies in charge thing it means Aliens vs Predators vs weak 2000's human prey who have no idea what's going on

Blomkamp was going to bring them back. He'd still have changed it up quite a lot though. He was going to introduce mercenaries too
>>
>>214958372
We got so FUCKING robbed not getting a Blomkamp Alien. Fuck me it would have been nasty.
>>
>>214958721
Wheres my district 9 sequel
>>
>>214958841
Blomkamp ruined his career with Elysium and Chappie. Neither were that bad in hindsight but he could have had it all with D10. Just had to make 1 good thing in between that didn’t suck so he could have gotten the budgets
>>
>>214958862
He ruined Chappie by making it a music video advertisement for those two clowns. It could have been good otherwise.
>>
>>214958032
>AvP has always actually meant Alien vs Predator vs Colonial Marines.
No it hasn't. That's a videogame thing. The original comic, and the 2004 film loosely based on the comic, have no Colonial Marines.
>>
>>214959693
>2004 film
yes, that's exactly the point. that movie sucked ass because it left out the marines. the avp films can't understand what they were supposed to put in the actual movies and they put in random weak humans in the modern day, which no one ever wanted. stop being an idiot and get some reading comprehension.

AVP-R is firmly Ok to Decent.

Pros
> One of the most badass Predators of the series.
> Great Pred design & suit. Much more traditional than the Pred suits in the 1st AVP.
> Sewer battle & final battle are solid despite lighting.
> Sheriff is likable.
> The actress from 24 is a decent Ripley ripoff, better then the bitch from Covenant
> Great Predalien design & effects.

Cons
> Rest of the cast has minimal likability.
> WAY too darkly lit.
> The Alien suits aren't the best.
> Meh/Weak-ish ending.
> Small town setting is meh.
> The prego slaughter is almost too mean spirited.
>>
>>214959693
No, the original comic is actually set on an alien planet in a Weyland Yutani colony. And while most of it is normal colonists trying to survive and escape in the middle of the battle between Ayys and Predators, I'm pretty positive colonial marines do show up at the end.
>>
>>214959907
Scar was better, and he likes jungle chick's
>>
So why did they keep making AVP films set in the present day while teasng the future stuff with WY instead of just setting it in the future like the comics did?
