Also LA Confidential the book was so noir it basically dips into gothic horror in places, and the film doesn’t capture that very well.

But the novel is 500 pages long, and with Ellroy’s clipped writing style that’s equivalent to like 1500 pages of anyone else’s writing. Also the book is the third volume in a four part trilogy so a lot of the characters and plot lines had already been started in earlier books. Frankly it’s a miracle the movie wasn’t a complete garbage fire.

Stoner. It would be impossible to capture the tone of the book without some cheesy voiceover that would ruin it, or adding drama that isn’t there to heighten the stakes (and by doing so, miss the point of the novel).
Gormenghast trilogy would be pure kino. I wish Kubrick was alive to direct it. A fire upon the deep would be sick, too. And Imajica and Weaveworld by Barker.
