Is it possible for a movie to have no main character?
>>
Jar Jar main character, MEESA BUMP THREAD TO PAGE 1!
>>
>>214958942
Of course not. Stoklasa is a retard. He's not even the main char on his show. Rich is.
>>
Goodfellas has no main characters and Scorsese said so himself.
>>
>>214958942
All four of them are right there.
>>
>>214959157
that's not how main characters work.

Queen Amidala is the hero of the movie?

>>

he's a secondary character. He doesn't have any development or conflicts to deal with that differs from other Jedi in his position would face.
>>
qui gon is the closest thing to main character. in retrospect this is really dumb since he dies and never shows up again. it should have been obi wan but he does nothing to drive the plot forward 90% of the time. why was he on the ship during the tatooine part?
>>
>>214959818
>why was he on the ship during the tatooine part?
Someone has to protect the queen and watch over the ship in case scavengers come, retard.
>>
>>214959915
It would have been better if Qui-Gon stayed on the ship and Obi-Wan was the one who went out and found Anakin
>>
>>214958942
Usually, there is either one or there are two main characters that are considered protagonists in movies and books. Sometimes, three protagonists could work, but four may be pushing it, and it is difficult to juggle between that many characters just about equally while still calling all four of them protagonists. Generally, one person or sometimes two in a group stand out to be the protagonists of a story.
>>
>>214959966
Obi-wan was still in training and it was very important they get the part or else they are stuck forever. Look how hard it was to get it for Qui-gon. Obi-wan would've not known what to do and they'd be fucked.

proof again that most prequel harters are just too retarded to appreciate them

this proves they dont have souls right?

The main character is Amidala. The story is about her and her planet being blockaded. The Jedi were there because of her, she met Anakin and he helped her get off of Tatooine.
The story of Episode I was oriented around the Queen, I don't know how that went over people's heads.

That's actually pretty crazy. I honestly can't think of a movie without a clear protagonist except for Star Wars Episode 1.
>>
Pulp Fiction

>>214960580
i look like this
>>
>>214958942
All the actors in the prequels gave bland boring performances except for the emperor
>>
>>214958942
Of course it is. Ensemble-lead stories are nearly as old as fiction itself.
>>
>>214960683
Yeah this works. But it's almost cheating like an anthology film. Each of the segments has a clear protagonist.
>>
>>214958942
This is called a 'mini-plot' movie.
Just remember that main character does not necessarily mean protagonist or vice versa.

>>
>>214960900
Even in ensemble films there's usually a character who is more important than the others. My first thought was Kubrick's ensemble heist movie "The Killing" but Johnny Clay is clearly the center of the story under any amount of examination.

>>

who is the main character in snatch?
>>
sebulba was actually the most important character in the movie
>>
>>214958942
This is one of the dumbest critiques of a movie that has plenty of legitimate ones. Qui Gonn is the main character. He's played by the biggest star, is the dominant character on the poster, and is the primary decision maker in the story, driving all the events of the film. How is this even a question?
>>
>>214962158
You could make the same argument for Obi-Wan and a new hope then.
>>
>>214960671
The protagonist is Luke Skywalker, as an unfertilized egg in padme's ovaries. Episode one exists as a pure prequel, to explain how things were and to set up the next two movies so Lukes story can be explained.

Back when George was all in on Jar Jar being the master Sith and the key to everything. Taco Bell was showing the way all along.
>>
>>214958942
Each of the Jedi has to accept the coming of a new age and their role in it. Qui gon is a man of action, of old world principals who could no longer operate in a more political atmosphere. Obi wan was more ambitious and politically savvy but nor as ambitious as anakin who lacked any political or diplomatic ability and operated on purely emotional and idealistic whims. He represents the revolutionary spirit that would topple the republic and empire. Obi wan is the middle ground the man stuck between the new ways and the old, who understands action and restraint, who understood that some level of politicking was necessary.
>>
>>214962336
No you cant. It’s not even remotely analogous.

>>214961630
Thats an anthology of vignettes, each of which has a clear main character of its own.
>>
>>214958942
Even if we accepted that there wasn't a main character (which I don't), why would that even be an issue? What the fuck are they even talking about? It really goes to show that RLM is in an arrested development state when it comes to film taste.
