The aesthetics of the world are fucking awesome but the story is lame.
-Take the same concept
-Add a third alien faction like the tyrranids or orcs or something
-Humans and navi are both fighting it
-Navi teach humans about how to go with the flow of pandora to more effectively fight the 3rd faction
-Conflict lasts decades
You still get your pocahontas love story, your big nature documentary, but you without the self hating anti human element and you get to cheer for the cool starship troopers guys as well as the cat people.
If they had gone this route the movies would have way more cultural impact instead of just ticket sales. They could make hundreds with teis concept and milk it to death, but nobody wants to live in a world where they're the icky bad guys and people like watching military tech kill stuff. If cameron could have just dropped his hippie ego these would be legendary.
