Because it deconstructs supposedly “anti-war” movies like Apocalypse Now or Full Metal Jacket and evidences how they’re actually pro-war. And how the “war is hell” mantra is just a way to justify to yourself why you enjoy watching some deranged asshole firebomb a jungle filled with gooks and surfing waves caused by the explosions other than the fact that it is visually and conceptually cool as fuck and that you yourself are a degenerate too.

By making everyone a crybaby faggot, the killings feel like cold bloded murder, and the nature shots much more interesting than any action in the movie, Malick is turning the war genre on its head, challenging any expectation that the viewer had about what they were going to see. Why are you expecting action heroes? Chinks being murdered to be fun? Explosions and heroism in every battle? War is not hell because its filled with fire and violence, its hell because its absurd and banal and no one really wants to be there. Just like you dont really want to see anymore of the fucking movie after the third monologue.

Plebs and retards couldn’t catch the message in a conscious level, but unconsciously they did, and they got mad about it.

This. It’s an actual cerebral film, so it filters midwits. Although Badlands and Days of Heaven are both better films than Thin Red Line.
>>
Simple answer: because it was so fucking boring. I couldn't even get through the first ten minutes.

The underlying message of the movie is that war is not a cool vacation filled with explosions, and that it’s actually boring and gay and it doesn’t make sense. It’s actually genius that the movie itself is boring and gay and doesn’t make sense.

The book is so much better is not even funny.
A proper miniseries based on From Here to Eternity when?

nope lots of people want to be there and take it very seriously

It's what got me into kino when I was in my teens. Before that I just watched movies.

>lots
i don't think so
as long as it's their home getting invaded or their side got overwhelming force, maybe
soon as that goes away you are left with true believers, fanatics, profiteers, the very poor and the ones who couldn't escape being pressed into service
and unless completely indocrinated/told over and over 'that fucker over there will STEAL, PLUNDER, RAPE and KILL everything you have, unless WE strike first!', most people prefer not to die in a ditch somewhere they have no good reason of being

the waves were fucked by the explosions

i dont need to justify that to myself

There's undoubtedly a fantasy of fighting in a brotherhood for a common cause, but anyone smart enough - and I certainly don't mean Ivy League - is rightly disillusioned with fighting for their country anymore. What is "my country?" Fighting for a millionaire's interests? For the existence of Israel? No thanks. Domino Theory was pushed hard for Vietnam, yet the U.S. still needed a draft to fill the ranks.

Unironically better than Saving Private Ryan.

Great. You are an exception. Take that to the bank. The vast majority of people enjoy Saving Private Ryan's titillating violence under the mindset of
>Wow, war is hell. Look at all these cool special fx reminding me of that.

Hated it. Sorry. Wanted to love it, expected to love it. Hated it.

Except for the usual Spielberg cringe and pathos, my main problem with Ryan is the dehumanizing of Germans.

They only cast the most butch, slav looking dudes as Germans and always shaved their heads, making ALL of them look like fucking Orcs.

It's almost like Spielberg had an agenda or something.
>>
>>214965214
who doesn't like violence (as long as it's not happening to themselves)?
>>214965282
watch it again and look at the effects of being shot and deaths of axis troops vs allied troops, if you want a good laugh
>>
>>214963614
Still boring as shit.
