1 and 2 were good. 3 was good in a campy b-horror way.
>>214964617I liked it. A lot better than most of the other hellraiser movies. I'm still waiting for a movie where they explore the cenobite realm more though and what they get up to when they're not on earth.
Yes.
>>214964617Mostly decent, has modern slop checkboxes but the effects, the music, the lighting, and the cenobites were handled well in my opinion. Non-binary Pinhead was actually quite good and didn't feel like a diversity thing but rather an attempt to adapt the novella more closely, as Pinhead is described as androgynous. Overall I'd say the highs outweigh the lows, especially the last third, and the ending/mid-credits scene actually got me excited for the next one.
>>214964728>A lot better than most of the other hellraiser movies.Well yeah, if you go to it directly after watching bottom-of-the-barrel crud like Hellseeker and Revelations, the 2022 film is a big improvement. (I'll never understand the Hellraiser fans who defend the direct-to-video sequels – are they really that desperate for more content?) And of course the first two Hellraiser films are looking very creaky and dated now, so the 2022 film has over them the advantage of a modern gloss. But judged as part of the horror genre in general, outside the Hellraiser franchise, it's nothing special, it's just "okay". The Evil Dead reboot modernised its subject in a more satisfying way imoI think a fundamental problem is that there's really nothing NEW to be done with the cenobites. Hooks and chains, eternal suffering, Faustian pacts backfiring, flayed revenants: okay, we've seen all that, what now? Even Hellraiser 2 struggled to find new territory, and mostly relied on ideas carried over from the first film.
>>214964617Woke slop
>>214965304People get mad at the direct to video Hellraisers movies because they were refurbished scripts with the Cenobites shoved into them. However, that is what Hellraiser originally was and was suppose to be. Frank and Julia were the main story in the first one. The Cenobites were in the movie for less then ten minutes. Julia was suppose to be the main villain in the second one but the actress didn’t want to be in anymore and Pinhead popularity shifted the focus. Third one was all Pinhead and it’s one of worst ones. Just went straight to slasher villain garbage. I don’t care what anyone says but Inferno was good and closer to what the series was suppose to be. Fucked up degenerates with Cenobites only playing a minor role
>>2149656733 wasn't bad. It just told the story of Pinhead which would have to be told eventually. I think the problems with it are less that than the story being too unfocused outside of the Pinhead stuff. It should have just focused on either Terri or Joey instead of having both characters.
>>214965673>People get mad at the direct to video Hellraisers movies because they were refurbished scripts with the Cenobites shoved into them. No, I'm mad because they're horribly cheap and amateurish. The idea of doing "X but with cenobites, Y but with cenobites" is fine in itself, but if it has school play performances and looks like it was made on the budget of a welfare cheque, I'll call it the piece of shit it clearly is. The lead actor in Inferno was hopeless.
Honestly preferred it to the original. Probably my most controversial take ever. The original has aged poorly. It’s ending is goofy as fuck. I normally appreciate practical effects and stop motion but that monster was just silly. Zapping things with electricity or whatever the fuck. Can any fans here defend it? It’s a very good novel though
>>214965673based inferno appreciator, it's actually close to a silent hill experience in a way.
>>214964617I disliked it. There were one or two cool scenes, but the rest of it was awful, and the characters were truly dogshit. The Night House is a top 10 for me, so I was exceedingly surprised I hated this movie as much as I do.
