>movie where you can explore dreams and literally build entire worlds>it's about corporate guys in grey suits trying to convince another corporate guy in grey suit to sell his company
Nolan's ideas for a crazy dream world:>LOTS of buildings>a spinning hallway>a train... going down a street!?mind-shattering stuff
You can do this irl too if you master lucid dreaming
>>214972139Don't forget about the trick staircase or the tunnel that's shorter than it should be.
>>214971984>powerful technology gets used by the rich and powerful to become even more rich and powerful >movie cynically addresses this while focusing moreso on the mental plight of the main characterIs that so bad?
>>214972509I don't think the movie is bad but I just think writing such a down to earth story about DREAMS says a lot about Nolan's psyche and I find that kinda funny.
>>214972718It's basically just a heist film. A good heist film, don't get me wrong, but the dream aspect is just surface level.
>he thinks its about literal dreams
>>214971984>explore dreams and literally build entire worldsnot a sinlge person has fantasy anime dreams.
>>214972718>>214971984you didn't see any of his other films? every one of his films are about dudes in suits or tactical gear
It's about filmmaking, retard
>>214971984>there is one (1) scene where some truly interesting space-bending dream logic stuff happens>it's in every trailerThat's why everyone said the movie was confusing. They marketed to the wrong audience.
>>214972902I, too, watch Youtube videos to understand movies
>>214971984I don't know what they call it but that was just a device. I think part of the intrigue is that they're doing such an insane stunt for something as banal as closing a high stakes business deal. And as it turns out the focus of the movie is more on Leo and his past.
>>214973038>banal>high stakes business deal
>>214973137Yes, that is banal. A theme that has played out thousands of times in film and real life, as the OP is criticizing. But that's part of what makes the movie low fantasy because we would in fact be using magic like this for a simple profit motive.
>>214971984he saw the futurehttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OHQRo3Uz_VQ
>>214971984I thought the same. The final fantasy series was largely based on dreams for a lot of its good entries. Once I knew this movie was gonna be based on dreams I knew they'd totally fuck it up
Reddit continues to sperg about this but all of the most successful cave allegory movies were successful because they limited the aesthetic and narrative possibilities, not in spite of doing so. Simply because that's what allows the audience to more easily connect with the idea.
>>214972718>an artist’s art says a lot about their psycheNo shit, retard. Say what you want about Nolan’s movies but he’s generally an uncompromising artist. Inception’s aesthetic is men in slick suits in modern urban landscapes because guess what, he likes men in slick suits in modern urban landscapes. It’s like complaining about a David Lynch movie being set in small town America and having weird surreal scenes or a Quentin Tarantula movie having feet and cuck shit in it.
>>214972902No, it's about some corporate guys in grey suits trying to convince another corporate guy in grey suit to sell his companyTropic Thunder and The Disaster Artist are examples of movies about filmmaking.
>>214971984The third act is guys in white firing at other guys in white, with a snow white background. Bravo, this action sequence killed any momentum the movie had. Where are all the people who said this movie was the best ever. There should still be one of you out there.
>>214973570It's still a lot less confusing than the final action scene from Tenet.
>>214971984I wonder what he thought of the movie
>>214971984They do go into the world-building thing in the movie. It just so happens that Leo and his wife built a really boring world apparently. I'm not sure exactly what your complaint is, it was meant to be an action thriller movie not a romantic adventure.
Nolan is a hack, prove me wrong
>>214971984>>214972139Filtered.
>>214971984>>214972139the point was to make it as realistic as possible so that the target doesnt recognize that they're in a dream.
>>214974285>they'reNigger you know the target and that it's a man. Kill yourself
>>214974298its a common practice in world, and many different people are targets. in a general sense, "they" fits because of the "many" targets, and how it could be anybody. additionally, there is nothing wrong with referring to an individual indirectly with a they/them, and it has been a common colloquial practice in american english for literal decades. your /pol/ rotted brain fighting a retarded pronoun war achieves you nothing. take your meds, schizo.
>>214971984Somehow I like this. When I was in elementary school I would have dreams about wandering around the school campus, sometimes being chased by a malevolent invisible force. But besides that, the dreams were set basically in that part of the real world as I knew it. Are the dreams in Inception boring compared to the wildest dreams we can have?Sure. But it works. And it frankly *is* interesting if you take it as a dream about corporate espionage.
>>214972903> That's why everyone said the movie was confusing. No one in real life said that
Was this Nolan's last great movie? He was on a crazy good run from Memento to Inception and then TDKR was the beginning of the end. Nothing he's done since has felt quite as tidy as this stretch. Even Interstellar felt like it was insisting upon itself.
>>214974285First smart post in thread >>214973570The movie is actually great, you’d have to be a complete killjoy to dislike this.>>214973791You’re an idiot. He has some try hard hacks films like interstellar and tenet but he also has some of the best films of the last 30 years
>>214973014>You have to watch Youtube videos to listen to the director literally say point blank that the characters were given titles based on film roles because he wanted to draw a connection to filmmakingImagine being so retarded you can’t see a metaphor even when it’s directly told to tou
>>214974883Not any of those anons, but I kind of consider Inception one of only a couple decent Nolan films. The others being the Batman trilogy if I can stomach its depressiveness.
>>214972139>No rape demon who chases you through all the dreamsUnrealistic
But this film has a snow mission like in Call of Duty.
>>214971984I actually think this might be the most pertinent aspect of the film. is it really about dreams or about something else? there's certainly a very business like quality to it allyou might see it as nothing but how james bond brained nolan is but I think there's more going on. as someone said, it's about influencing other people through covert means and being too dreamlike would shatter the illusion. I think nolan is marking this kind of realism as a fertile arena for deception and collective shadow work
>>214975122Inception is his best James Bond film.Tenet is when he tried to go full bore James Bond and royally fucked it up
>>214975441Him and villeneuve were actually my favorite picks for next bond director, they both owe so much to the series and it'd be interesting to see if they can move it in a good direction. Tenet makes me think villeneuve might've been the better choice
>>214975441>>214976178Neither director has the humor necessary to make Bond work.
