He did know that Harry had to try himself and face challenges, and he knew that the prophecy meant that Voldemort and Harry would be linked to life in probably more ways than one, so he was happy when he learned that Harry was like triple-linked to Voldemort, but I doubt he would have wanted it to go down exactly like it did.
