But Avatar is the only franchise/stand alone movie that's carrying the blockbuster mantle these days. It's the only entry where you feel the resources needed to be considered a proper Hollywood blockbuster have been allocated.

Bringing quaritch back in abatap 2 was lame. What's next, are they going to bring him back in abatap 3 as a cyborg this time?

Quaritch becoming a Na'vi constitutes a (leftist) race swap?
9 foot tall alien women as combatants is leftist symbolism?
A racially "diverse" cast even though it's for extraterrestrials?
Is this shit written by AI? Because it's super shallow and only superficially accurate.

>>214990724
Quaritch was always planned to return because his redemption as a character will mean something unlike general Ardmore who is subtly shown to be a significantly shittier/evil human being than Quaritch ever was and it will be "because" she is a woman even if its never stated outright.

These films suck ass and the only positive thing is an image shared online of the soldier bad guy with a quote that isn’t from the film

Literally the only series I look forward to anymore and will see in theaters. It's what star wars used to be for me. An actual big event to anticipate and be excited for.

>>
>>214992644
They can grow it back. They could fix Jake's spine even but it cost money and time and he wants to get back out for revenge. So shut the fuck up you no-watching nitpicking bitch.
>>
>>214992644
why go through through the pain of growning a new arm to full size, then getting it back into shape if you can get a sick robot arm
which all the military gals that went to pandora with you probably get off on as a bonus
better question is why the meathead from the first movie didn't get robot legs instead of becoming a blue person
or did humanity get a massive tech boost because of the unobtainium
i haven't watched the second one yet

>>214990588
As someone who didnt get through 20 minutes of the first movie and never watched the second movie. Is it worth watching the second movie?

Based post. You're right. Another thing that's undeniable is that the Avatar film franchise is the only film franchise in recent years that's actually worthy of buying an expensive ticket. Not only that, but the Avatar films are worthy of buying a 3D ticket and 3D tickets are EVEN MORE EXPENSIVE than 2D tickets. The reason why the Avatar films are worthy of buying a 3D ticket is because the Avatar films were MADE to be seen in 3D on the big screen, because the cinematic experience is integral to the Avatar film franchise. The Avatar film franchise is highly immersive and transportive - and that elevates the Avatar film franchise above your average franchise slop (like Marvel and DC, for example). I'm genuinely excited to see Fire And Ash. In fact, it's the only film from this year I actually WANT to see and it comes out at the fucking end of the year. Oh well, at least we're getting a lot closer now.
>>
It's basically the only franchise that still has that '90s/'00s blockbuster aura about it. Everything else is just overly preachy slop now.

Same for me. I don't care if the plot is retold Pocahontas, I personally see that those movies clearly have a soul and are passion project for Cameron and everyone involved, including the actors. This series is escapism at its best and almost the only mainstream refuge from the endless superhero slop. For me that's more than enough

>I don't care if the plot is retold Pocahontas
That was only the first one and a very simplistic view. It doesn't encompass what is now a trilogy of movies whatsoever.

>>
>>214993695
I know, but it's a common point of its haters. The first movie still should only be watched in the Extended version, the theatrical cut suffers too much from the lack vital character development scenes. The Extended cut also explains their motivations much better

>>
>>214990588
I mean, this is true and it's an astonishing theatrical experience but the story, characters have no bite. I am aware Cameron wants to keep this family-friendly and whatnot but it really has no interesting hook or sci-fi gri to it and after leaving the theatre, it feels like you watched a superfluous cartoon.
>>214993301
I love Avatar and paid to see it THRICE in theaters but do you share my disappointment in how little explored and fleshed out the story is thus far? It feels like Cameron frets too much over the logistics and tech side and neglects the story and character side. When the concept of an evil N'avi tribe was unearthed, I came up with such amazing ideas in my head about how that would shift the series into a darker, more epic tone and yet the new movie looks remarkably....pale. It just doesn't have that amazing potential I envisioned in my head. The villain being a female and the ash na'vi just being regular na'vi with no unique features is incredibly disappointing to me. I love Jimbo but I wish he had a younger writer with more grit working on these movies to add some much needed darkness (in proper dosages) and operatic scale.
