My grandfather didn't serve in WWII but in Korea and this movie deeply affected him especially the landing scene. He did land at Incheon, but it was no where near the landing / battle that Omaha was, but he definitely got taken back to those moments and the fear and terror. He served in Korea at the battle of chosin reservoir, he was wounded, shot in the leg there and carried around shrapnel for the rest of his life in that leg. He died almost 15 years ago. Anyways I always think about him when I re-watch saving private ryan because he cried so much when I watched it with him when he was still alive, don't think people can really connect with a movie like that unless you went through what these guys did.
