what did you think of the POV witch killing. ive never seen that before. it was awesome
>>
Wow, this was fucking shit.
Didn't really like any of the segments.
>>
Kidprint left me feeling awful.

But I also think it's probably the second best segment in the franchise.

The rest of them were okay at best (the segments)
>>
FUNSIZE!
>>
>>215011617
is it because a black man was the villain for once? that make your tummy hoit?
>>
>>215011633
no because its realistic

the black guy being the killer psycho not the segment itself being realistic
>>
>>215011605
pretty cool, I wonder if the witch and the succubus from the first or second movie ever see each other when they're flying :)
>>
>>215011605
that was my favorite story, followed by the candy one
>>
Okay but seriously how would you not notice you're eating a chocolate covered dick?
>>
>>215011627
I found out the guy who did Too Many Cooks did that one and it explains why its so fucking wacky
>>
>>215011633
Maybe I'm just paranoid and should take a break from 4chan but this movie had a subtle chuddy feel which is weird because this was always a
very lefty franchise
>wraparound had a guy literally named rotschild selling poison just to get people addicted (note about this segment, when we first met the test subjects, I was sure the blonde lady with the attitude was going to survive and kill the scientists and Im sure in a previous vhs movie that would've happened)
>first segment has a monster that was punished because she killed herself after getting pregnant and victims that are punished because they refuse to grow up
>second segment didn't really feel political at all, but the slutty nun discovers that room when she went there to fuck a coworker. I know that's a stretch, but still
>kidprint has a black serial killer and the segment ends with the white guy who was genuinely a good person being framed for crimes he didn't commit with the black guy getting away with it
home haunt and fun size had nothing political but that means there was no lefty message in there
>>
>>215011716
Yeah I was wondering why I recognized the name in the credits
He also did your pretty face is going to hell which makes perfect sense
Shame it felt so cheap
>>
>>215011649
>>215011653
i just rewatched that part to make sure its still awesome and i can confirm it was still awesome
>>
>>215011725
chuds won
>>
>>215011736
yeah I can agree with that.
>>
SHIP. THE FUCKING. SODAS.
>>
Shudder, take notes. This is an award winning idea:
>a comedy or a drama set in the world of v/h/s where every segment actually happened (maybe except the world-ending ones)
so you'd have kids drinking the evil soda, a reality show like the kardashians but with the siren girl and the guy she "liked", raatma having a church now, but all of that would be background stuff pretty much, you would just tell a regular story. you can even have cameos from some of the survivors or evildoers.
>>
>>215011596
any booba?
>>
>>215011617
Yeah, you can tell Timmy was a creep

why did no one stop him before?
>>
>>215011673
that segment was fucking stupid
goofy ass giant candy bar people and chopped off balls and le dick. so fucking retarded
>>
>>215012040
its all shits and giggles until you get transported to the fun size dimension
>>

>>
>>215012009

>>
>>215012009
the first segment is about a woman with 6 tits
>>
>>215012040
The director of that short was a writer for Harvey Birdman, Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Squidbillies, he also wrote those "Adult Swim infomercials", so of course that segment is stupid
>>
>>215012040
It's from the guy who made Too Many Cooks from ten years ago
>>
>>215011725
>this was always a very lefty franchise
How new are you? The first film had sharking and gratuitous nudity. It absolutely was made for the chud gaze. It's only really since VHS 4 that the films took an aggressively lefty turn
>>
>>215011617

Since we are asking retarded questions lemme ask you nerds how to properly stream with an hdmi cable and laptop. When I try to do it the quality seems shit and kind of choppy. Am I supposed to be using a special hdmi cable or do I need a top quality laptop?
>>
>>215015568
you might want to get a newer cable for a few bucks. even an old laptop can do HDMI with no issues. it could also be a setting in your TV. Try another TV to rule it out.
>>
>>215015568
skip HDMI altogether and just stream the file to your TV using DLNA
>>
>>215015568
no you don't need a special hdmi cable and quality shouldn't be impacted if it is plugged in properly. If it's choppy then that sounds like a refresh rate issue, check the refresh rate for the 2nd display and see if anything is off
>>
>>215015568
Go into display settings on laptop and set refresh rate to 60hz YOURE WELCOME
it defaults to 30 first time.
>>
>>215012397
The first one was probably one of the last "edgy" horror films before most horror movies began to remove all/most nudity, gore and violence is fine apparently, but don't you dare show a booba
>>

>>
>>215022967
94 is the last good one imo. All the movies since then have had more bad than good.
>>
>>215022886
why

is this some sort of anti-feminist reverse-equality statement or are you just trying to jack off

like the other poster said, most guys getting killed off as security guards and the police and gangsters and terrorists and space wizards and whatnot are mostly men because it is mostly men who occupy those roles. Certainly when the bulk of the most movies were made in the 70s and 80s.

like you're gonna sit there and be upset that there aren't enough terrorist women being killed in stallone movies.
>>
>>215022996
It just has more novelty and shock value since you see it comparatively rarely. For instance, I watched the movie "Bull" the other night, and some way into the film he brutally stabs a defenceless woman in the leg after murdering her husband who was duct taped to a chair. I didn't really care about him murdering the husband, but I felt a strong reaction to seeing the woman get nonlethally stabbed in the leg, because you don't often see women get stabbed in non-horror movies.
>>
>>215011596

Thing is, it starts off fantastic, pitch perfect atmosphere and escalation til the door disappears but then it loses steam and spins its wheels too much. It loses the sense of peril as the potential for escape is foreclosed, their fate known and inexorable while going through a leisurely room to room house tour with variations on the theme. The 6 titted sow is a solid grotesque shock but hardly a satisfying payoff in itself and the ending while coherent to the theme just feels like a whimper.

I'm being a bit overly critical and I'd say its about standard for an "average" segment which is totally fine with me on the whole but that's why I didn't love it

I finished watching this earlier, and I wanted to blab about it while it was on my mind.
>Phantasma
Unapologetically, this is an SCP about haunted soda someone wrote and shot a short film about. I found this one very hammy and got a cult black comedy vibe from it.
>Coochie Coo
This was fine. Probably the best choice for a first segment. I think the creators came up with the storyline for the villain and built everything around that. Everything revolving around the monster, from the backstory to the structure of the house, was the strongest part of the film.
>INFRA
This was easily the best one of the bunch. I had to stop and watch it a second time before continuing. I love how squeamish and uncomfortable the actor who played Enric was. Flipping from the past and present segments worked well, and the film did a great job building tension.
>Fun Size
This feels like I'm watching a YouTube skit. Specifically, one of those channels with the overly energetic hosts that piss-poor mothers let their tablet-addicted kids watch for hours. It has to be the acting, particularly the line delivery, and how the POV shots were done. I think this one was supposed to be a black comedy, but it wasn't funny.
>kidprint
I like the setup and the opening a lot. The acting during the horror parts with the villain was good. Some of the kids did a good job. However, the ending was so mind-bogglingly stupid that it brings it down a letter grade. I think it went overboard with the distortion effects near the end. It starts out fairly grounded and loses the plot in the second half.
>Home Haunt
I appreciate when horror tries to endear you to its cast before it puts them through the ringer. I mostly see it in horror novels, and it puts a pit in your stomach that makes the horrible situations hit harder. I like how deceptively campy the opening is, because once everything goes south, it is very brutal.
Very good mix this time. Perfect for starting the season.
Infra>Haunt>Diet>Coo>Kids>Fun
>>
>>215018094
I guess the child killing during Kidprint and the second half of Home Haunt just upset the normalfags over there too much. Kidprint at least makes sense because it's very much meant to be unsettling, but if they were shocked by Home Haunt then I don't know what they were expecting. Ever since the Safe Haven short of VHS 2 had dead cult kid students and then having the final segment be an alien abduction clip about kids, its clear that kids were not safe in this franchise.

>>215024456
The gross out part of Coochie Coochie Coo was great, it's just ultimately a fine VHS segment in a film that was more good to really great ones IMO.
>>
>>215025441

How is it compared to Beyond?
Beyond is my favorite of the franchise overall because at least all segments are gory
>>
>>215025842
It's about on par with Beyond, maybe a bit higher. Won't dethrone 2 or '94 any time soon but its still a damn good entry and nearly all the segments are consistent in quality.

>>
with a little tweaking Kidprint could've been the best wraparound segment yet
>>
>>215025935
Will give it a watch anyways since I do enjoy the Halloween theme.
At least if everything has cool gore it makes even the less... palatable segments more tolerable.
>>
>>215025954
Not every segment has cool gore, the first one is more about gross out situations like the gagging one character did which genuinely made me feel like gagging too. The wrap around definitely has good gore tho, and starting with segment 2 they start to ramp up the gore which results in a really bloody finale.

>The last good one I saw was the one with Clancey Brown.
Which? Mortuary Collection?
>>
>Coochie Coo
Good one, not very original but well directed and well done visually. I wonder if baby faces came from JD Vance memes, lol.
>Kidprint
As good as the first one, really unsettling, but I feel it doesn't match the tone of the movie.
>INFRA
Visually good, but feels flat. Just another "demon killed everyone, lol" story.
>Home Haunt
Really liked a setup about infantile father and incel son. They spend a time on it and it could be developed into something but in the end it doesn't and they just die. Shame.
>Fun Size
This was really annoying and stupid, only thing i liked was candy pipe shoved in girl's ass.
>Phantasma
That's just a bad joke with a few good gore moments. These wrap stories always were bad but this one doesnt' even connect other stories like before.

Overall, it's okay. Definetly worth a watch if you liked even one of the V/H/S movies before. 6.5/10

its halloween man, as you can see, funsize is the least liked segment. One reason is because the writing is shit, but also who wants to watch teens/adults get killed for the 1,000,000 time. Every single horror movie does that. On halloween it should be kids.

I dont think it's just to be edgy. Sure something like Kidprint is still a bit exaggerated, but it works for a holiday like Halloween just for being a case of "stranger danger" taken to an extreme. And the kills in Home Haunt were shocking just because it went to show that there wasn't going to be any plot armor, anything goes.
Its also not the first time VHS had kids as victims, there was the cult segment in VHS2 and there was that group of kids that were killed by Medusa in one of the entries, forgot which.

why do the directors go to these lengths to mimick the look of actual VHS tape footage, but not also try to mimick the 'feel' (zooms/camera movement, mostly) of it? it's bizarre seeing all these quick zooms and fast snappy and intimate movements in footage that is supposed to have been recorded on a bulky old handcam or whatever

Watch "Nightmares" (1983), the four segments were filmed as episodes for a TV series that was cancelled, the studio just slapped the 4 episodes that they had already filmed together and released it as a movie, I think the 2 middle segments are really good, too bad they picked the weakest one as the final segment
>>
>>215025812
No you retard, the mommy became a monster after killing herself because she got pregnant and the girls and the other victims became monsters because they refused to grow up and they were still doing kid shit instead of adult shit like, you know, forming a family. It's the exact opposite.

>>215028642
I sort of get it with Kidprint, maybe it was a bit too "real", although it still doesn't bother me. But the bit with the Witch and the kid in the cauldron was fucking hilarious, fuck you. We need more kid killing, it sucks when they just get a pass
>>
>>215034747
1993's Body Bags was also pretty good, it only has 3 segments if you don't count the framing device but all segments are solid
>>
>>215035045
The thing with Ut Supra is the acting was really good, much better than we usually get on VHS segments.
>>
>>215035085
Various horror anthologies have at least one segment without anything paranormal in them, horror anthology movies like Nightmares and Body Bags both had segments with a serial killer as the main antagonist for example and shows like The X-Files and Twilight Zone had couple of episodes with regular humans as the antagonists, the final segment of the 1972 Tales from the Crypt movie was basically just a tamer version of Saw and even the original 2012 V/H/S movies had the "Second Honeymoon" segment
>>
>>215035179
I think it's often hard to fully critique acting in languages which I don't understand, but I do agree that the acting seemed like a much higher calibre than we're generally used to in V/H/S/
That said, the acting in Home Haunt might not have been classically "good", but it was entirely appropriate for what the segment required. I think I'd say the same of Diet Phantasma, too.

They could hide the shitty effects with the low quality image the early movies had, looking like actual VHS tapes, the newer ones look too clean making everything look even cheaper as a result
>>
>>215037982
Even when the first one came out, they were really stretching the idea that people were still using VHS tapes. They usually tried to hide it by saying the videos were from the past.

But now characters are walking around with current-day smartphones. It makes 0 sense that VHS tapes would still be around, or even functional.
>>
>>215037060
NTA but the first VHS doesn't really hold up that well outside of Amateur Night and 10/31/98. The sleaze factor and grounded tone are great but most of the other segments are just a slog to go through. Second Honeymoon was fucking awful with a shit pay off, Tuesday the 17th takes its time to get going even though the invisible killer that only appears on cam aspect is novel, and the other one involving ghosts before deciding to be an alien fetus birthing scheme was just weird. Gore and boobs were great but it just didn't really go anywhere. Its one of those cases where its unfortunately blown out of the water by its sequels.
>>
>>215038727
>NTA but the first VHS doesn't really hold up that well outside of Amateur Night and 10/31/98.
The Sick Thing Emily etc. Is one of the best ones
a lot overstay their welcome and this one doesn't after hitting you with its revelation and twist
I thought 10/31/98 is overrated. Its quite run of the mill and the better "fratboi meets psycho girl" clip you watched at the start of the film
Second Honeymoon I rank low, but it's raw and not supernatural, which is kind of appealing to me. When every other clip is trying to be very grandiose it stands out to have a clip mundane like this. I think it works in the middle of the clips of the first as a regular snuff (the collectors were looking for tapes of supernatural and had to wide through "typical snuff and cp" as Kyle says in vhs2)
>>
I love horror but i hate horror fans for having such low standards. They will like whatever. This was absolute trash. I dropped all the segments quickly because they were unwatchable. How can you kinda forget that found footage movies are supposed to pretend they are real footage? And i don't wanna be misunderstood - you can have fantasy elements even though they are not real but it has to be done in a sorta believable way. You can't go over the top with this because it's just retarded and immersion breaking. Having special effects and characterization like from a low budget 80s horror is so fucking stupid. And it's not only that. Acting and dialogue has to be naturalistic, otherwise it's going to feel fake. Same with the plotlines. They stopped giving fuck about the FF premise of this series. Only the first one cared about that and three shorts from 94 (ratma, vampire and funeral home) - more or less, i mean, they have some flaws but were overall good. The rest of the franchise is pure crap

Theres not a single movie that is rated higher than 3.1 or something, most of them are 2.8. No one holds them in high regard but they're also not entirely bad because out of the 5-6 segments there's usually 2-3 that are decent to good.

that's not what i meant but they are constantly described as being good or decent. Like this one which is just straight up 1/10. Even when there's a segment that starts okay like the first one with the beautiful girl, it quickly escalates into something ridiculous and retarded
