I think this KINO hasnt received the credit it deservs

Crazy that I just finished this. It didn't occur to me until I read the plot summary that the entire motel was a hallucination and I thought that it's a scene from the past where the killer was larping as Cusac and some other people.

I can't even remember it. Didn't it just turn out that everyone was John Cusack?
>>

If your mindset can tolerate the ""twist""" the movie has a lot going in terms of mood and performances. But I totally get how some people would just check out after it.

>how some people would just check out after it
The first twist was predictable, the final and real twist was bollocks but it happened in the very last minute so you couldn't really check out after this

I am the biggest sucker for plottwists that exists. I have watched pretty much any movie with major plottwists, but this movie does nothing for me.

It's not even that it's a bad movie, I've watched it many times, but it's just such a "meh" movie. It's so in the middle.

>>215012916
There's like 3 twists I can remember.
the cop isn't really a cop
spoiler]it was the kid
spoiler] they're all the same person

"The" twist is clearly the Everything and Everybody is all just in Some Guy's Head one, but there's a lot of shenanigans going on in that imaginary scenario in general that may also count as twists I guess.
>>
>>215013072
The twist is that the sick guy's real personality is that of a killer

Whores don't get a second chance.

>Cusack was one of the killer's alter ego
>Liotta was an escaped convict masquerading as a cop
>The entire motel scene happened inside the killer's head and everyone there was an alter ego of his
>The kid was actually the alter ego that made the killer kill irl
In this order

its completely retarded but kino also referenced heavily in the charlie kaufman nick cage film adaptation as the most retarded screenplay possible that would definitely get produced. i love it for that.

super mid

it absolutely did at the time. the whole reason the movie got word of mouth and racked in DVD sales was due to it's twist. and it's a damn good twist for a movie that's meant to be a decent thriller and nothing more.

when you start holding it to these weird standards instead of just enjoying you have something neat to watch for 90mins you become like this anon here, >>215012403

Rewatched this on Tubi recently for the first time since it came out.
I miss mid-budget (actually big budget by modern non blockbuster standards) horror/thriller films from the 90s and 2000s. They probably don't have a market now unless they are "elevated" or made a bit cheaper. This had top tier production design, photography and set building for essentially an X-Files episode.
Criticisms though
1. They completely mess up a mis-direct by revealing the killer being transported isn't Jake Busey because they very briefly show Pruit Taylor Vince in the opening credits.
2. They basically give away the twist at the halfway point (maybe 50% of the audience still wouldn't pick up on it), but they completely reveal the twist when there is still like 20 minutes to go, which is sort of deflating for the tension. It still works okay I guess.

I watched this movie about 5 times as a teen and it scared me every time. I can't remember if it was one of those movies that kept being replayed on TV or if I just rented the DVD a bunch of times.

The director got mad about that because Adaptation got released first and he said people unfairly made fun of his film kek
>>
>>215011665
The ending sucks
>>
>>215011665
It hyped me even more when the killer in the scenario (the long blond dude) escaped and ended up in the same motel. That was really cool
>>
The kid from this movie looks like younger version of Adolescence boy

My problem with this film is that the whole thing is about the twist. Once you know the twist there's really no reason to ever rewatch it. And I say that as one of the biggest John Cusack fans there is.
